I seriously think you are all judging this solely on her being from a group you don't like. She was actually quite amusing on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and I have no doubt whatsoever that she'll at least be a better judge than dull useless Cheryl.

Ahh Tulisa is confirmed, my goodness she's not big enough profile for X Factor imo :P

To a certain extent past credentials count for DIDDLY SQUAT here. This combination of Louis Walsh/Gary Barlow/Kelly Rowland/Tulisa from N-Dubz sounds like the most higgledy piggledy combination for a judging team you could envisage. That though ultimately could be an exciting element to it. Where judges will lock horns etc. They all have a big team behind them to help choose songs, stage settings etc. It's all about establishing an identifiable personality. Be it meek and mild (Cheryl), cut throat (Simon), calculated and intelligent (Dannii). Besides, anyone can hear a good singer when they perform...

I'm quite excited. Hopefully Tulisa and Louis constantly fall out and Kelly Rowland performs a commemorative anniversary special version of 'Commander' live for all.

This news prompted me to watch a few old X Factor clips, and you know it really struck me the STATE that the show is now in. When it began we had a judging panel of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne. Regardless of your personal feelings towards them, they undoubtedly HAD judging credentials and they all had $h!tLOADS of experience working behind the scenes in the music industry.

Fast forward 7 years, and we're now getting TULISA from N-Dubz. Tell me the show hasn't gone the pan.

You're judging that through the lens of seeing the X Factor as a talent contest though Shoat: which isn't really what it is anymore. It's become light entertainment by and large. If it was about either talent or what would sell the most then Leon and Joe would've never won in their respective years and Matt certainly wouldn't have won last year. Someone like Tulisa suits it down to the earth as an entertainment show compared to it as a talent contest.

But when has the X-Factor ever truly existed as a BEACON for knowledgeable and intelligent artistic promotion, spotting or development? It's all about personalities, bickering and bust-ups. The more serious "music" side to things is handled by record label execs. First and foremost 'The X-Factor' is an entertainment show with a musical theme. No more and no less. That's why the majority of acts that filter through have nil longevity (which goes to prove why they were never picked up by record labels prior to appearing on the show...)

I'm not claiming the X Factor to be the most professional or credible music talent show out there. Clearly it isn't. But I don't see that this necessarily means that any old two-bit chav of the month should be given a stage to appraise or ridicule the singing talents of Joe Public in front of millions. There's a happy medium surely? The show worked before when they had proper industry experts just fine - personally I thought the Simon/Sharon/Louis dynamic worked the best out of all the judging combinations so far, even if Sharon is a bitter old harridan. We were all entertained back then, just as much as we are now. I just don't think there's any actual NEED to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Tulsia song choices :L:L:L

"The song i'm choosing for you to perform this week is Chipmunk - Chip Diddy Chip"

Who's to say that Cheryl was any more qualified than Tulisa is to judge talent? You're only judging off the back of your preconceived notions of what N-Dubz are from the genre of music they offer - if Tulisa was a part of a girl group I certainly doubt anybody here would be declaring it to be OVER and that they wouldn't watch X Factor as I've seen countless people across the internet say over the past few hours.

Frankly I welcome someone who's unlikely to toe the line on media training! It'll be a complete hot mess but frankly I think the show needs a little of it after the almost sickeningly placid judgements (Simon aside) from the likes of Cherly.

whilst I think she will have a good attitude and won't be bland like Cheryl, I think that is a really WTF and unfortunately goes to show that judging credentials have become second hand to entertainment and younger demographic pleasing :(

I mean how is she going to mentor acts? especially when most would be older than her

I somehow doubt she'd be given over-28s.

You're assuming I was thrilled when Cherly got the gig. I wasn't, and I'm fully aware that she was also sorely limited in her expertise - she was never given a category to challenge her mentoring skills, and her song choices were frequently uninspired or downright WRONG. My reaction there was similar to my feelings on Tulisa now. Neither had any real place being on the judging panel.

I'm not saying they should be going for stone-cold industry bores. I'm going to hark back to Sharon Osbourne again as an example; she fits your criteria of being a "hot mess" who refused to stand in line and play ball, but equally she had enough knowledge and industry experience to offer the hopefuls. Tulisa has her own experience yes, but how is she going to able to effectively advise say a 26 year old male MOR singer or a middle-aged gospel collective? You've already said yourself there's no way they could really give her certain categories - to my mind that's a perfect example of why she's not quite suitable for a judging position - she may not be mentoring those over 28s, but she's still going to be expected to pass judgement week in, week out.

I have to say if you really look at it objectively Tulisa is no less qualified than Cheryl; no chavvier, no worse a singer (probably a better one in fact), and no less representative of the British pop scene in 2011. Throw in the fact that she'll probably me a nightmare in terms of saying what's on her mind rather than prettying everything up in a bid to be the nation's darling and there's every chance she'll be an entertaining judge.

I think more worrying is the fact that Gary Barlow is sitting on the panel of a show which is ultimately about entertainment rather than outright musical talent. The man's dull as dishwater. It's odd how the panel effectively now comprises two middle aged/verging on elderly men and two young women. In that respect it seems unbalanced but perhaps they'll have that spark, whatever it is, when they come together.

I think Tulisa is an interesting choice. There is obviously something there, this is after all the UK's biggest show, they wouldn't plop someone on the panel if there was no substance behind them.

I think that Tulisa is not the kind of person to sit and give the overly cliched comments like Cheryl did over the past two years, but to actively voice her opinion. Like her or loathe her she could give the show a kick up the arse and stop it from becoming stale and monotonous.

And for the record, I can't stand N-Dubz and wish Dappy would burn for eternity in hell for being a repulsive c**t.

There's a bit of a difference between mentoring an act and judging them. She'd be entirely unsuitable to mentor over 28s (but then, Louis Walsh is entirely unsuitable for some categories too - why do you think he's never been given Boys?) because she lacks experience in how to sell them or what would be suitable for them to sing, but she'd certainly be well placed to judge whether they gave a good performance, just as most people who watch performances neutrally are. She's been in the music business (far more actively than Cherly - she at least has some control over her career, whereas GA just turn up and sang whatever Xenomania gave them) so she will have first-hand experience of what works in the industry and what doesn't. I think she's at least more appropriate a judge than Cherly was in that respect - but really, Cherly was just brought in because she already had the tabloid tongues wagging and because she had reality TV experience.

To my mind she's equivalent in terms of prior qualifications to Dannii.

They've said before (well Simon has at least I think) that they've tired out doing older songs and older themes. I do worry whether if Skepta All Over The House will be sung by one of the contestants this year though...

(but then, Louis Walsh is entirely unsuitable for some categories too - why do you think he's never been given Boys?)

I can think of a couple of reasons...
