It'll just be made into yet another faceless procedural
January 19, 201213 yr The Americans should not be allowed to remake British TV series, they destroy them 99% of the time. Given that this is CBS this will be no different. It'll just be made into yet another faceless procedural I don't think the US has EVER re-made a UK TV show (The Office aside), I can certainly think of more that have fallen flat on their arses. I don't think the Execs of CBS realise why Sherlock works so well on the BBC, and why it's become one of the most critically acclaimed and viewed shows on the BBC for a while.
January 19, 201213 yr I guess Shameless does well for Showtime. Skins was a complete flop for MTV though and so was Prime Suspect for NBC. The Office is the only one that springs to mind which has done really well.

I don't think the Execs of CBS realise why Sherlock works so well on the BBC, and why it's become one of the most critically acclaimed and viewed shows on the BBC for a while. They've remade quite a few over the years. The American networks fail to translate that distinct Britishness that usually makes our big series' successful and well loved. The shorter seasons also help keep filler episodes at bay. Remaking Sherlock Holmes in New York is exactly why any American who thinks doing a rehash of a UK TV show is a good idea should be shot in the face. It's just wrong. Sherlock Holmes is such a legendary character that making him American and setting it in NYC is just offensive. If they really must remake it, they should work with the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, etc and have it set in London with a British accent leading the way.
January 19, 201213 yr Author Success does not a good remake make. The Office US is the highest rated show, and is less funny than the UK version which has the comedic value of terminal cancer.
January 19, 201213 yr I liked the first two (or three) seasons of 'The Office' but from there it went downhill incredibly quickly. The newer episodes are dreadful. 'Shameless' is Showtime's third most viewed show (behind Dexter and Hometime) so it's definitely a hit for them.
January 19, 201213 yr The CW have ordered a pilot for the Sex and the City prequel. Just when I thought those awful women had disappeared forever. :manson: Edited January 19, 201213 yr by ▲▲▲
January 19, 201213 yr Any great new shows to reccomend? I'd like to get into US TV a bit more but cba to do loads of catching up, are there any shows that are relatively early into a first season? I've only watched Smash so far this year US TV wise (well and Glee of course).
January 19, 201213 yr LOL well it's all-new cast so they're only really those women by name (the show's called The Carrie Diaries). It'll probably be shit but I doubt it'll have much in common with the HBO series/films. The remake of Shameless is amazing. I bloody love pretty much every character.
January 19, 201213 yr Has anyone read about these two new comedies starting on HBO in April? Tony Hale is in Veep! U0dMZo3l_5k gfDHb4uGCDM

January 19, 201213 yr Oooh, Liam, where to start?! Necessary Roughness (funny dramz), Fairly Legal (funny dramz), Homeland (dramz), Enlightened (dramz), Revenge (dramz+trash-tv), Terra Nova (dramz+sci-fi) - all aired their first season and were renewed (except for Revenge and Terra Nova). Fairly Legal s02 starts in two months. New amazing comedies such as Up All Night, Surburgatory, 2 Broke Girls and New Girl with amazing criminal drama Unforgettable are still airing. The Lying Game is alright, very One Tree Hill/90210-ish. A Gifted Man is beautiful, loved the first few episodes. Don't bother checking Ringer, Whitney or Charlie's Angels as they're absolutely atrocious. I'd rather get recommending some of the older TV shows though. Parks and Recreation, Leverage, Bones, American Dad, South Park, 30 Rock, Chuck, Psych, Fringe, In Plain Sight, The Big C, Covert Affairs, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, Dexter (!!! at that one). Family Guy's latest season is crap. These are only the shows that didn't end or weren't cancelled (yet). The full list is much much bigger. US TV is incredible. ---- Also, Man Up! and Work It were CANCELLED. That is VERY GOOD NEWS. <3 Edited January 19, 201213 yr by Ljósið
January 19, 201213 yr THanks guys, I'll have a look into the shows you've listed and see what I like the look of! I've watched every episode of Family Guy and American Dad Pav! Depends what types of shows you're wanting to watch. Comedy? Dramas? Trash-TV? I'm not really fussed, open to pretty much anything. I prefer shows like Glee that mix comedy and drama well though. January 19, 201213 yr 'Revenge' all the way. It has comedy/moments where you've just got to grin at all the bitchiness and the drama/twists. Only 13 episodes of the first season have aired so far and there isn't a new episode until February 8th so far to catch up. 'Suburgatory' is good too and even quicker to catch up on as it's a 30 minute comedy compared to a 1 hour drama only it isn't as good.
