The last season of Alias is such a chore to watch. It goes from bad to sheer loonacy via stupidity. The last season ruined a great show.

You could replace 'Alias' with 'Desperate Housewives' and this would hold very true too.

Can't wait to watch Political Animals on Monday :)

Yeah it looks like it'll be brilliant! Sebastian Stan who plays the gay son in it is delicious. :D

It's nothing like USA's other stuff. That's a plus for me and a minus for you I imagine Phil :D it was good though! I'm not saying it's great yet though, I need to see what direction it goes in next. It's quite soapy.

It isn't like normal USA stuff (that's not really a good or bad thing for me, I like a lot of USA shows but for the most part they are pure fluff/hard to get passionate about, well all except the marvelllous MONK).

It is very good though, Sigourney is obviously the main attraction and delivers every inch of the performance one would expect from her. Ciaran Hinds totally doesn't work for me, he's totally miscast and he and Sigourney have zero chemistry. The mother and TJ are very good, as is Susan the not at all stereotpyical journo in a relationship with her boss which becomes conflicted BLAH BLAH BLAH. There's a nice vein of humour running through it which helps meld the political stuff and soap trash stuff a little better than perhaps they would have done without that.

USA stuff are FLUFF?! Necessary Roughness, Psych, Fairly Legal, Covert Affairs, Dead Zone, Burn Notice (omg the latest season is really starting to become INCREDIBLE btw) and especially In Plain Sight (RIP :'( ) disagree.
Of that lot I only watch Psych, Fairly Legal and Covert Affairs and combined they make a poodle look dangerous. It's not a criticism, I enjoy all 3 shows a lot, but they are about as far from edgy, hard hitting drama as it gets.

Well you'll most CERTAINLY like Burn Notice and In Plain Sight then. Burn Notice is their edgiest show by far, and IPS - the funniest (and really edgy too, especially around season finales, season 1 finale being the edgiest), also by far.

(i've never used the word 'edgy' so much in one sentence. feeling dirty)

Edgy is a horrible word to describe shows, but I couldn't think of anything else.

Both are on my 'to watch' list, I'm waiting until Burn Notice finishes this season then I'm going to watch through it all and In Plain Sight is about 8th currently so hopefully I'll get both done this summer, or at least before the network shitstorm begins again in earnest.

I'm seriously advising you to move In Plain Sight to the top. You won't be disappointed. I guarantee that.

I watched the In Plain Sight pilot and found it a right old drag. Some very dodgy acting and storytelling (although Mary was good).

The problem with USA procedural shows is that they're ALL EXACTLY THE SAME.

Yes but you don't LIKE procedurals, so they're obviously unlikely to appeal to you as much as someone who does (like me). The thing I've found with most of them though is that S1 is usually a foundation for what is to come, take for example Monk and The Closer (the 2 very best procedurals on TV in recent years IMHO), S1 of both was fair to middling, but as time went on they became genuinely incredible shows. Seasons 5-8 of Monk and 5-7 of The Closer rank among the best stuff I've ever watched.

That's the problem. You only watched the pilot. I watched the pilot and wasn't that impressed too actually (which led me to abandoning it for MONTHS). Now it's genuinely among the 10 of my favourite shows EVER.

In Plain Sight is INCREDIBLE.

The attraction to the entire show is of course Mary. Best character on TV by far.
