I imagine even the most promising (read: least awful) of the comedies will seem a bit shit at first. I usually find with sitcoms nowadays they take a while to grow on me because as a rule they're quite DUMB and everyone is a bit cartoonish and it can be offputting but after a while I defrost. I hated Big Bang Theory at first too.

I'm really excited for "Ringer" & that vodka TV show. I LURVE Chelsea!

I really enjoyed the 'Revenge' pilot. Having not watched any of the previews I found it a bit confusing at first (jumping five months into the past, having flashbacks to even earlier) but most of it seemed explained by the end, even if they maybe gave a bit too much away. Will certainly stick with it for now so perhaps this is a good move from ABC, it didn't seem like the most buzzed about show (maybe I've just been looking in the wrong place though) but this could gain some extra viewers as first, either from people who, like me, weren't planning to watch but have now given it a go, or people who have watched and are now spreading it through good word of mouth.

 

There is also at least one great bitch moment.

 

Loved the lead girl.

 

edit: Oh, on the bright side it sounds like ABC are promoting this more than any of their other new fall shows and the first week has an hour-long Modern Family lead-in before switching to the weaker Happy Endings after.

Has anyone got a list of all of the leaked pilots?

Revenge slightly entrigued me. Not really my cup of tea though. Awfully cliched, very predictable. I feel like I know how the show is going to despite only watching one episode. I might watch the next episode and see where it goes, but I can't see it lasting on ABC. Its based on a book, but it doesn't translate to TV very well imo.

'The Secret Circle' can now be found online after being made available for free on iTunes by The CW, but I'll hold back and wait until Friday when it was on my list anyway.

GUYS. Up All Night is brilliant! I so did not expect that whatsoever. Christina Applegate is really great obviously but the bigger shock for me was how good Will Arnett is and how he's not just playing his Arrested Development character, he really tones it down. Maya Rudolph as the chat show host is probably the funniest of them all. I genuinely had to pause it at points just so I didn't miss anything because I was laughing so hard. The bits with the Italian saying and with Chris and Regan trying to keep their cussing under control ('so f---ing beautiful!') were the best. I really see this being a big breakout hit.

 

Free Agents was pretty funny in places (Anthony Head was ace) but it pales in comparison.

 

I gave Up All Night a go and it was OK with some promise, and I do like the female leads so I'll give it another go if I have time. I'd agree with Maya Rudolph, but I can't say I found the cussing parts very funny. Premiere numbers were pretty goo, and NBC are really pushing them as they were both repeated Thursday night & tonight from the looks of it.

I've been spontaneously bursting into the chorus of Edge Of Seventeen for the last two days now.

Up All Night looks dreadful tbh.

Wouldn't you be better off actually watching it rather than judging by the trailer?

 

Anyway 2 Broke Girls (expectations low) and Playboy Club (middling) begin tonight. Also returning Hawaii Five-0, Castle and 2 And A Half Men for people who like that sort of thing.

 

Obviously, I'm going to watch it before passing judgments and everything but it really does look like your cheap ass NBC sitcom.

One thing I noticed whilst watching was that the production values were very impressive for a sitcom :o there was nothing cheap about it! I always pick up on these things too because I can't stand to watch anything that looks obviously cheap, like where there's bright white light outside any window because it's been done in a studio.

I'm so excited to get Virgin on Wed and I can finally catch up!

Never seen a full episode of 2.5 men before but I watched the premiere for Ashton & really enjoyed it. Not just because of Ashton either, really liked the funeral scene too.

 

Were 2BG or TPC any good?

Playboy Club was alright. It looked great, beautiful set design and period atmosphere with a good soundtrack too. The story was alright but the dialogue was quite poor in places and something about it as a whole fell a bit flat. Eddie Cibrian as Nick Dalton was a bit of a cardboard cut out, handsome but nothingy. Amber Heard was more than solid in the lead role but Carol-Lynn stole the show repeatedly. She's worth watching for so I'll probably stick with it.

The ninth season premiere Monday night starring Ashton Kutcher taking over for Charlie Sheen delivered 27.7 million viewers — that’s in the ballpark of an American Idol premiere. Even more impressive: The sitcom scored a 10.3 rating among adults 18-49. That’s easily an all-time high for the show, and up 110 percent over last fall’s eighth season debut with Sheen. Everybody expected the sitcom’s first new episode back would perform strong, but not like this.

 

CBS’ entire comedy lineup was strong, with the night opening with back-to-back episodes of How I Met Your Mother (11.3 million, 4.7 and 12.2 million, 5.1, respectively), that were much higher than last fall’s premiere. Following Men, new comedy 2 Broke Girls did a giant 19.1 million viewers and a 7.0 rating — down, as one would expect, from its giant lead-in, but still likely to dwarf any other new scripted series debut this fall. The only CBS show that didn’t seem to much benefit from the Men surge was Hawaii Five-0 (12 million, 3.4) at 10 p.m., which was down 13 percent from last fall, yet still won the 10 p.m. hour.

 

Over on NBC, another much-buzzed-about premiere had a very different fate: The Playboy Club has been drawing controversial headlines for its association with the adult magazine brand, but bombed out at 10 p.m., drawing only 5 million viewers and a 1.6 rating. Its two-hour lead-in, the first fall edition of The Sing Off (5.2 million, 1.9), performed weakly.

 

CBS also crushed the premiere of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (18.6 million, 3.9), which has been some drawing press attention too, for the inclusion of Chaz Bono. While ABC held up better than any other CBS rival, the two-hour premiere was down a sharp 24 percent from last fall’s edition. Good news at 10 p.m. for the network, though: The return of Castle (13.6 million, 3.3) was up 22 percent from last year and gave Hawaii a run for its money in the hour." - Entertainment Weekly

 

Bloody hell at 'Two and a Half Men'! 27.7 million morons wasted their time with that drivel. 'The Playboy Club' isn't going to last long (which isn't that shocking tbh).

Wow. That's really dire for The Playboy Club. Put out of its misery within the next couple of weeks? Probably but it's a shame, it's not a great show or anything but it's more imaginative than any of those dull CBS by-numbers procedurals.
