Hi. :cheer:

The Robbie Forum members know that it is fast approaching the 10 year anniversary date of Robbie as a solo artist. We are going to set up a thread in our Forum but need to know the exact date his cover of 'Freedom' was released in the UK. ( we think end of July or August 1996).

Can anybody help with an exact date?

Thanks,

Jupiter

( Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place  )

Here's the date when it first charted in the UK:

August 10th 1996, it entered the UK Top 40 chart at No.2

Polyhex says it charted on 10/08/1996 so it would be released 6 days before that :D

10 years, wowsers. :o

I have a lot of respect for Robbie, because he managed to turn his career around and become so successful, and he managed to get a lot of credibility as a solo artist after being a member of Take That. And that mustn't have been easy!

Thanks Guys.

We'll go for the 4th of August then?

So now would be a good time for him to stop

:o :whip:

the release date would be 12 days prior to the date it charted, not 6 days: a record released on, for example, Monday 1 would chart on Sunday 7 but would be in the chart which is dated Saturday 13 - polyhex uses the historical dating system of the week ending date.

It means its release date would be Monday July 29, 1996 if it was to have charted on Sunday August 4, in the chart dated Saturday August 10, 1996.

So it will be 10 years exactly tomorrow...

EDIT: as it happens, the bpi site has the release date, in the Certifications database, and it is Monday July 29, 1996:

Award Type: Silver

Artist Name: WILLIAMS ROBBIE

Record Type: Single

Record Title: FREEDOM

Record Company: EMI

Record Label: CHRYSALIS

Record Release Date: Mon Jul 29 1996

Date Award Issued: Thu Aug 1 1996

Debut: No

some of the info above is wrong - it was his debut single, and the award was made during August 1996, and not on Aug 1 as listed.

Thank you for the information Robbie, I'd of likely made the mistake of thinking next week myself.

And to all the Robbie Williams fans. Congratulations already!! :D

Thanks for keeping us right with the correct date Robbie.

I'd have felt a proper lemon if we'd missed it.

He sold 145,000 copies to debut at #2 but was outsold by the Spice Girls Wannabe selling 150,000. He'd need to wait another two years for his first solo no.1, Millennium.
