May 23, 201114 yr Yeah, Poppiholla is definitely the last instrumental top 10 hit. Not sure if there have even been any instrumental top *40* hits since then actually! And AFAIK only two instrumentals made the top 40 in 2009 (Poppiholla and Escala - Palladio). I may be forgetting some though. Didn't 'Rock It' by Sub Focus just reach the top 40? Chicane - Offshore #14 in 1996 This wasn't an instrumental... the chorus goes; 'you got the passion to feel inside a little love, a little light, now you decide' But it also says Offshore 97', so I could be wrong and it could have charted as an instrumental (or you might be thinking of another Chicane song) Anyway, all great dance instrumentals have been mentioned - so there's no point in me echoing those points when no-one has mentioned this which sadly missed the top 10. It screams CLASSIC. It's one of those songs you won't recognise from the name, but you know what it is when you hear the tune. TYJzcUvS_NU It is very sad that instrumentals don't do anything in the charts these days even if they are amazing (of course, 'We No Speak Americano' broke the law of instrumentals not being big hits [i know strictly its not an instrumental but it has very little words - there was a remix with a rapper called We No Speak Americano (I Like That) but thankfully that never got popular (it's CRAP!!) so we can sort of count WNSA as instrumental)
May 23, 201114 yr Didn't 'Rock It' by Sub Focus just reach the top 40? Ah, that was 2 weeks after Chicane as well! Flop @ me for not remembering that especially considering that was my fifth favourite song of the entire year (after Omen, Warrior's Dance, End Credits and Invaders Must Die). :drama: I'm not sure if Rock It is 100% instrumental though, I don't know if it's a sample or just a similarity but one of the 'instruments' in it sounds very similar to the lyrics (ROCK! RO-BOT-ROCK!) from Daft Punk's Robot Rock which were lyrics, but very obscured so they sound like instruments until about half way through the song. I know Rock It was originally called 'Robot Rock' but they changed the title which suggests to me it's a sample and therefore Rock It technically does have lyrics.
May 23, 201114 yr The original 'Offshore' that charted in 1996 was an instrumental, Offshore '97 added the vocals. I've got both on my iTunes :)
May 29, 201114 yr Swedish House Maffia - One Must be the last instrumental to reach top 10 - went top 10 after Chicane Poppiholla (sp?) anyway
May 29, 201114 yr Swedish House Maffia - One Must be the last instrumental to reach top 10 - went top 10 after Chicane Poppiholla (sp?) anyway The version that was promoted and did most of the selling was the Pharrell version.
May 29, 201114 yr But it also says Offshore 97', so I could be wrong and it could have charted as an instrumental (or you might be thinking of another Chicane song) No, that was the underwhelming vocal mix that was released in 1997. I'm talking about the original instrumental version from 1996.
May 29, 201114 yr The version that was promoted and did most of the selling was the Pharrell version. Ah OK fair enough... just downloaded it as it was on 59p list thing and was the instrumental :D
May 29, 201114 yr Second time today I'm mentioning Dario G - 6 top ten hits plus one more top 20 in 1997-2003, all of which were at least mainly instrumental, but i can't remember if any of them had some words
May 29, 201114 yr A couple more to add your lists are: Yomanda Synth & Strings - Number 8 in July 1999 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbLpibHT5zY DJ Qucksilver - Bellisima - Number 4 in 1997 also apart from the word 'Free' a few times, you could count the follow up that reached number 7 in 1997 too Edited May 29, 201114 yr by DJ Gavin
