Their past releases always had a problem.

Just Can't Get Enough - not established enough, rubbish cover, promo performances dire (miming ALL THE TIME!!)

Work - promotion everywhere, video didn't go with the album theme, released too late

Forever Is Over - released too early, rubbish song

Wordshaker (album) - released after one rubbish single too soon

Ego - video released far too early

Missing You - mimed everywhere, looked desperate, video was underwhelming, song was weak

Headlines - mini album/EP whatever, still shouldn't have been released after one single, the fact it had half of Wordshaker on it was another problem

Higher - video released too early

Notorious - video out two days before release, no airplay, promotion was everywhere, video was a let down, single was dead the minute it was released

But with All Fired Up it doesn't seem to have any flaws at all with it. The song is GOOD, the video is GOOD, the video is released at a GOOD time (imo Pixie released too early, Leona probably too late if she does release), airplay so far is fine and should grow now that the video is out, they probably won't mime (they haven't since Missing You) and it's got a traditional release which means unlike Ego/Higher which had to climb for ages before scraping the top ten, it will be a guaranteed TENTH top ten single from the girls and shouldn't plummet out of the charts like the other traditional releases.

I doubt it'll be #1, Example and Ed Sheeran are contenders and obviously so is Pixie and maybe Leona. However there's nothing to suggest it won't hang around the charts for a while.

I can't see Ed Sheeran getting top 3 with his new single, Saturdays are already beating him on Airplay.
I expect them to jump into the airplay top 50 this week, I've heard it alot this week and It's on BBC Radio 1 everyday with Scott Mills playing it
You forget to add "with an airplay peak of #36". Yes, the overall results were truly underwhelming, but you can't blame the song, the sound nor the group. You can tell general people LOVED the track, as they have had the same sales of previous singles that were much more supported by radios (Forever was #6 and Missing You hit the #1!).

You can blame a lot of things, radios not supporting on air/on sale releases, the management scheduling the promotion two weeks after the release date...there were a lot of issues that won't happen this time.

Now, with All Fired Up being supported by radios and with the great response from the public it looks this single will do really good. The biggest challenge for the #1 will be Pixie Lott and her major radio support. Leona won't be a big deal given that her song is yet to chart inside the top100 of airplay and she won't have the video out until next week as the soonest, so she'll miss that promotion. Plus, the response of the public has been really underwhelming for her song.

Now you see, all of the things I've bolded are irrelevant. I never "blamed" the group.

Do you think their label will actually be sitting around a table going "Yeah this flopped, then this flopped, now the lead single has done nothing... But come on we did loads of things wrong and so did their management, let's just give them another chance?" - Of course they won't. The Saturdays are a pop group and their main focus is and will always be shifting units and if they can't do that then they will end up on the scrapheap, which I think if this single goes wrong as well, they will be in danger of doing.

Radio support is a big part of a songs success, but at the same time is not essential, there are tonnes of tracks which have genuinely been loved by the public which have done well without radio support, and in general I don't think the single was well received at all - by comparison to Up, Higher, Ego... The general reception was poor, sales don't lie and neither does the chart run, if it was genuinely "LOVED" (your words, not mine), it would have done a hell of a lot better.

As far as All Fired Up goes, I do think you're looning a bit if you think the general response to the track has been "really good" - most of the people in this thread are strong Saturdays fans but the majority of posts in this thread have said that the video is amazing, but the song lacks in comparison and is "slowly growing" or still not up to scratch - and if die hard fans are saying that, I would beg to differ that this single is being well received.

As I said, I pray I come back to this thread in 6 weeks time and eat my words, but I have the distinct feeling it'll be the other way round my friend...

Again, no offense and as a fan I feel your pain, but at the same time you can't keep finding excuses as to why they've done poorly, one or two singles maybe, but within the bit I've quoted you've literally covered the majority of their collective career, you've covered 2 albums and half of their singles. As a fan (which I'll say again, I AM!!!!), there has to come a point where you stop and say "look, something about them isn't working, it's just not clicking" and as a fan I have done that, and believe they truly need to go back to the drawing board. -_-

I think the video is great! It's a bit of a Work 2.0 but it's a vast improvement from Notorious and shows them with a more mature edge. Not overly sexy, but more glamerous.

They have done a brilliant job in steering away from the generic club scene and instead come up with this other-end-of-the-spectrum video. Instead of fire they're using water, not something that suits this video, but it works and it's very creative and original for a song like this.

I do think Kelly is spot on, basically they need to pull a hit from this album or else. And I am also a fan, a massive fan. While I personally love All Fired Up (it's probably 4th/5th in my fave Saturdays songs already), the general reception has been underwhelming compared to some of their other singles and they have a tricky release week. I think they'll go top 5 and I can see it selling decently, but I don't think it'll be the massive hit they need.

I don't see a huge issue myself. Whilst it's true they've failed to really progress in their sound and popularity, and haven't reached a status where they could really be called a hugely successful band yet, they've been wobbly but have remained stable enough. 'Wordshaker' flopping was a bit of a disaster which I don't think they saw coming, but I think 'Headlines' did fairly well for an EP and the singles have sold well. 'Ego' and 'Higher' don't have peaks to reflect this, but this isn't a huge deal at the end of the day.

I don't think 'All Fired Up' is really a make or break single either. They aren't using it to launch the album and therefore as long as it does reasonably well, there won't be an issue. It's the quality and popularity of the next single that'll be important in my opinion. I think 'All Fired Up' stands a good shot of top 5 myself.

By hey, maybe I'm blinded by loondom and they're all doomed to work in Aldi. Except Mollie. Who I will adopt.

I'm more concerned about where they are going musically because if this is the sound over the entire album, I will NOT be buying it. I probably won't be buying the single either, their first I won't have bought. It's a SAD TIME :(
Pixie has definitely got the No.1 in the bag for the release week. Her single preorder is already 75 on the itunes albums chart. I don't think The Sats have even been in the top 200 since it was available to pre order  But I'm not really worried. If Notorious got to No.8 in it's first week with no airplay and one performance then AFU should do much better. ^_^ I like the video as well
They did say in an interview though, that this album has a few R'n'B tracks, a few ballads, some dance songs but mainly pop songs - they said ''It's basically the good tracks from Headlines!'' which is promising! :D

I can honestly tell you that the only two groups of people that I have heard not liking this were either fans of Sugababes 4.0 or Sats haters, that were going to say they dislike it anyway, or dance-haters that it's not that they don't like the song, but they just don't like ANY dance music. And, checking the sales charts, they are an immense minority.

Any other people either have just "liked" the song (like fans that prefer something more poppy, in the line of Higher) or LOVED it.

But yeah, as you say, it's pointless dicusing this...sales and statistics will speak by themselves.

My problem with it isn't that I hate dance music or am a Sugababes 4.0 fan (I am, but that's a retarded reason for not liking this), it's mainly that it doesn't have a very strong melody and doesn't sound like a Saturdays song.

This is good, well not so much the R&B stuff, but the pop and Headlines style tracks.

Still loving the video just I dont get why at the "We're all animal" part there seems to be more shots of una mouthing along to it rather than Mollie? I know when the song first came out some people thought Una was singing that bit but its defo Mollie right?

Mollie sings "We're all" and Una sings "animal".

And then Mollie sings "So get your claws out" and Una "getcha, getcha claws out".

wow good ear. Yea I hear it now thanks :)

I am a Sugababes 4.0 fan and a Sats fan, and while I wasn't too keen on All Fired Up at the start it is growing on me now, especially with the video :D

In other news, they seem to have some decent promo around release week as I've seen on Facebook :)

It's true, though, what I said. The girls have done fine considering the circumstances around each release. Even with all their mistakes and mishaps, they've secured a pretty big fanbase and practically every release is guaranteed to go top ten. They're at *that* level now. Notorious zoomed up to #5 on iTunes the week it was released without any airplay at all (and after one performance), and aside from Wordshaker there's nothing to suggest they're a flop. They haven't pulled in any amazing sales, but nothing dreadful at all.

They sold out two tours and are about to go and do an arena tour, they've had a book release, calendars, have tons of sponsorship deals, booked on most festivals, have gigs everywhere, had their own TV documentary and then obviously they have nine top ten singles and three top ten albums. To be brutally honest, their music sales is probably nothing compared to the money they rake in from sponsors and their tours.
