I genuinely think they're still going to be playing Empire State of Mind once a day in 2035. :puke:

It really annoys me when people refer to this song without the 'Part II' bit. The original is going to be completely forgotten here despite the fact it was massive itself... I'm not even sure ESOM(PII)BD has outsold ESOM but it's the only version you ever hear any more and it's as if the original didn't exist. It doesn't help much that ESOM is great but ESOM(PII)BD gives 'dull' a new meaning...

Why? That's the correct abbreviation for it.

Sorry. :( I just always refer to both as ESOM, because I'm lazy I guess. Although we're talking about Heart FM, so it's clear which verion I'm talking about in this case too. :kink:

I don't think the original will be forgotten, at least not by those people alive at the time. Although, especially with urban music, where you often get many different versions of the same song in a short period of time after release, I often find with songs from the past, I know one version really well, and then I'm shocked when I find out it's just a remix. So I could see future generations being the same.

I think another main factor here is the fact that all the main radio stations that like rap, such as Radio 1 and Capital, they've moved on to new songs now, and just play ESOM once a month or something now. Most of the main radio stations that like to play songs from the past more, they're also anti-rap. So the pro-rap station won't play the song because it's old, and the pro-old music stations won't play the song because it has rapping in.

Isn't it the "Broken Down" bit that's in the parenthesis though. So surely the correct way is ESOM,PII(BD)?

If Jason Derulo touches the top 5 with his new single... :puke: I'd love Example to have a third week and be on the same level as Pitbull

No, it's Part II in brackets. This is how it is on the single cover. (It's also what the Wikipedia article is titled :P)

Also, how do you all abbreviate Waka Waka?

I abbreviate it like this, WW(TTFA)[TO2010FIFAWCS], but is there a correct way to do it?

I'm hearing Fast Lane for the first time on the radio!!! :cheer:

The bit in square brackets is an iTunes tag, not part of the song title...

Oh.

I also realized that abbreviating it is actually longer than typing out "Waka Waka".

And you could abbreviate that to "WW", but that could mean a lot of things, which could be confusing. But you could do like Chris Brown and write it as "Waka 2x".

Also, it's funny we were having that conversation about Return of the Mack, because Mann just said on the radio that he never heard the original until after he got given the beat! :o

My God who gives a $h!t?

The people having a discussion about it, I'd assume?

EDIT: Actualy, Jason Derülo is out too, he could also challenge for #1.

I've said all along that Jason Derulo will hit #1 in the UK when 'Don't Wanna Go Home' gets released. It'll be the worst UK #1 of the year - and for me personally I've liked all the no. 1 singles so far this year to some extent. I just don't see the appeal of 'DWGH' other than it's Jason Derulo, or that it samples 'Show Me Love' in which case download Robin S. Kinda like Ne-Yo releasing that non-song 'Beautiful Monster' last year. -_- :(

I also heard them play Firework and Dynamite for the first time recently! :o

I love to hear a mash up... Firework with Dynamite :D

 We could add a bit of Grenade to it too. :D

I know you're going to be very surprised when he doesn't get to #1, but I think it's quite obvious that he won't.

EPIC... street lights just came on, its dark as anything

"Switches lights on"

Jason Derulo is doing very well on pre-orders and Example's lead is getting smaller, I reckon he could snatch it, I hope he doesn't though, I agree with Hits, its a very average song :(

Or download Steve Angello :D (I know this is an unpopular opinion but I love Steve Angello & Laidback Luke's version of SML, it's much more recent and that beat is great ) I already own the song so I won't need to

I just think the song really isn't that good. I don't think people will buy it. Jason is a relatively new artist, doesn't have a massive fanbase, and this has had much, much less promotion than Whatcha Say and In My Head had before release.

Although In My Head was generic, and people bought that...

Although I would like a different #1 I guess. Although I would much prefer Calvin Harris to do a mirculous climb to #1.

^^ In My Head may have sounded generic, but at least it doesn't have such an obvious sample and it doesn't ruin a perfectly good song imo. Jason won't get number one, I will cry if he does

I much prefer songs that use samples than generic songs though. Although Jason's new song is both tbh. But it's the generic-ness (MORE dance-pop in the charts, like seriously? Get out and take the BEPs and Inna with you please ) that annoys me, rather than the sample.

Some of the most interesting and unique songs in the chart at the moment use sampling, so I'm greatful for that art tbh.

Seriously, 0:45 - 1:02 is the WORST thing I've ever heard. :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: Sounds exactly the same as a million other songs. Absolutely appalling. :puke:
