I didn't AQ when I hosted. I think if the host nation doesn't AQ but gets through to the final successfully then they've got through on musical merit alone rather than by default.

The host (Rich in this case) sends a PM back to you saying the song/artist has been taken I think, so obviously you then have to choose something else.

Yep that basically, send me a PM with what you want to send and I'll rebound it asap if somebody already has said artist/song.

Sorry if this is seemingly overdemanding but if there are semi finals (wich there probably will be) What time roughly will the results be announced on the saturday as I will almost definitley have to vote straight away as my flight leaves at 8:30 the following morning

The semi-final results should be at 7pm on the Saturday night and the final thread should go up soon after, it'll probably be worth you listening to all of the songs in the other semi as well if you have time as then you'll be able to vote straight away with no problems.

Ok, so if we have an odd number of participants and I still wished to plop myself into one of the semis, what would happen then? As they'd be unbalanced and all...

If I was hosting BJSC XXXVI and there were for eg; 41 nations taking part, I'd have two options.

 

1. I could decide to AQ to balance things - in this case it is your decision after all so shouldn't be influenced by what others think.

 

2. Alternatively, have unbalanced semi finals with 20 and 21 respectively - then you lose 6 from one, and 7 from the other. The final I assume will still consist of 28 nations?

Yep, a final of 28 again sounds good to me. I'm not so keen on the idea of unbalanced semis to be honest, it makes it easier to get out of one than the other, so I think I'll base my decision whether to AQ or not solely on whether we have an even or odd number of participants - unless anyone else can think of a better idea?

My plan was to listen to and rate all the songs in the contest whilst only voting in my semi and voting for the highest rated ones that made it through.
