Posted July 7, 201113 yr Over the next few days I will reveal Buzzjack's favourite 50 number 2s of the UK from 2000 up to now. The countdown features songs by Girls Aloud, Michael Jackson, Take That, Rihanna, ADELE, Destiny's Child, Kings Of Leon and Kylie Minouge but who will win? Firstly, because an extra round was added, we ended up with a top 54 and the following songs missed the top 50 because of that 54 - Mark Ronson "Stop Me" (2007) (+01) o_BufRJB5A0 53 - Jeff Buckley "Hallelujah" (2008) (+02) y8AWFf7EAc4 52 - Aloe Blacc "I Need A Dollar" (2011) (+04) iR6oYX1D-0w 51 - Coldplay "In My Place" (2002) (+06) yEoHFzEmld0 I already know the winner and I can tell you, you'll love it too :yahoo: Edited July 12, 201113 yr by danielMFAO
July 7, 201113 yr Author 50 - ADELE "Chasing Pavements" (2008) (+07) One of the big questions of 2008 was 'should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements? even if it leads nowhere?' This was number 2 for 3 weeks behind Basshunter, and I am one of the minority that prefers NYG to CP but this has turned into 'near classic' status whereas Basshunter is now forgotten about. Here's another big question. Could ADELE be the first artist to be bottom AND top of the results countdown? 'Rolling In The Deep' is still to come. 08DjMT-qR9g Edited July 7, 201113 yr by danielMFAO
July 7, 201113 yr Author 49 - Noisettes "Don't Upset The Rhythm" (2009) (+10) This was stopped going to number one by the more remembered and more BJ friendly 'Poker Face' which went on to sell a million. This song still did well in the chart and is the Noisettes biggest hit. This song was jumping on the soul meets pop bandwagon that started in 2008 with Duffy and ADELE but it was more pop (her vocals are soul but the production isn't really) 9qfmGokiPe8
July 7, 201113 yr Author 48 - Just Jack "Starz In Their Eyes" (2007) (+11) It was the start of 2007 and the 3rd and most successful winner had just been crowned (Leona Lewis) so what better time for an anti-XF song? Here is the first attack on the show (as a song) and it did well, spending 6 weeks top 5 and 2 weeks at number 2 behind Mika's massive hit 'Grace Kelly'. Despite the public being asked 'why'd you wanna go and put stars in their eyes?' they have continued to watch the show and it is still successful today, with X Factor runners up JLS and last year's 4th place Cher Lloyd about to get UK number ones. July 7, 201113 yr Author 47 - iio "Rapture" (2001) (+11) Why, I hear you ask, did this only get to number 2. It was because I got high. The song did do well to beat competition from Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez and The Dandy Warhols who were new entries in the top 5 that week as well as iio. Recently Nadia Ali (think she was in iio) released her solo version of the song and Avicii gave it a remix, it never got anywhere but made a few dance compilations. WbaWdyDipcw
July 7, 201113 yr Author 46 - Coldplay "Speed Of Sound" (2005) (+12) Coldplay missed out on being number one that week because they decided to go to competition with a frog (yes, they got beaten by a FROG) who would go on to spend 4 weeks at number one. Coldplay recently played at Glastonbury and got a few songs back in the charts, I don't remember this having a big effect but 'In My Place' which was 51 in this countdown made the official top 40. July 7, 201113 yr Author 45 - Samantha Mumba "Gotta Tell You" (2000) (+14) Samantha could have been number one but decided to battle with Slim Shady (the real one). She had six more T10 hits before disappearing zb8Dt7_qe_I
July 7, 201113 yr Author 44 - Manic Street Preachers "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" (2007) (+15) The last big hit for Manics was this which features an uncredited girl. It was stopped from going to number one by Beyonce & Shakira's hit 'Beautiful Liar'. Their follow up hit 'Autumnsong' was their last 10 hit, but it's chart run is really bad for a T10 single (10-45-76-x). They fell even further when next single 'Indian Summer' went (22-x) but they are still around and are making hit albums. A_OnFHJou4o
July 7, 201113 yr Author 43 - Rihanna "Russian Roulette" (2009) (+16) Rihanna's comeback single was, unexpected. People were disappointed that a ballad was chosen first, but it did well in the charts and could have been number one if it weren't for the BBC Children in Need single. The next single 'Rude Boy' made number 2 but did better in the charts. The Rated R era had no number ones, but Rihanna came back for her Loud era and scored two of them. ZQ2nCGawrSY
July 7, 201113 yr Author 42 - Infernal "From Paris To Berlin" (2006) (+16) The song spent ELEVEN weeks in the T10 but only one week at it's peak, it was stopped from being a deserved number one by 'Crazy's 8th week at the top (you could have let Infernal at the top Gnarls, you had your turn) Infernal's follow up 'Self Control' reached 18 before being forgotten about. Gnarls Barkley (and Cee Lo Green especially) went on to have more big success. THt5u-i2d9k
July 7, 201113 yr Author 41 - Girls Aloud "No Good Advice" (2003) (+16) They had just scored their first number one with SOTU and this was their second single. It spent a week at 2 behind R Kelly's massive hit 'Ignition (Remix)'. It wasn't until 2004 when the scored their second chart topper. Other number two hits 'Love Machine' and 'The Show' are still to come in this countdown. FxY_vg-gu9o
July 7, 201113 yr Not particularly pleased at the underperformance of Just Jack, Jeff Buckley, both Coldplay songs and Noisettes. I really should have voted :drama:
July 7, 201113 yr I didn't vote either :( First time I haven't voted in one of these games, I didn't even see the thread?! iiO would have got VERY high points off me. Enough to lift it out of the dreaded bottom 10 anyway. Boo you all for not voting for it, it's absolutely wonderful, one of the best dance tracks of the 00s quite easily (and beaten by Infernal is a bit )
July 7, 201113 yr 44 - Manic Street Preachers "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" (2007) (+15) The last big hit for Manics was this which features an uncredited girl. The "uncredited girl" was the amazing Nina Persson from the Cardigans! Edited July 7, 201113 yr by mango7
July 7, 201113 yr Author How could you guys miss the thread. It was in the UK Chart Forum, and I promoted it in my signiture and even on last weeks chart show :drama:
July 7, 201113 yr disappointed at the underperformance of Jeff Buckley and The Manics, although I love both Coldplay songs, they are quite weak in comparison to Fix You, The Scientist and Clocks, it always annoys me that there weren't the biggest hits on the respective albums :( (although I guess their better remembered :P )
July 7, 201113 yr How could you guys miss the thread. It was in the UK Chart Forum, and I promoted it in my signiture and even on last weeks chart show :drama: I have signatures turned off, and I rarely take part in the BuzzJack Chart Show thread (and when I do it's often just to post some hyperbole how good the 90s and/or early 00s retro top 10 is and then bugger off again :D). Last week I didn't even look in that thread at any time. Not sure how I missed it on the forum though! Obviously I wasn't paying much attention when it was on the first page, although I'm often only on this forum for like 30 minutes a day anyway. I'm quite annoyed I missed it though, especially as I've voted in EVERY round in all these rates (80s, 90s and 00s) and now miss the very last one :( And I'll probably be even more annoyed if I see later that I could have changed the winner by voting... By the way, I would have given my 15 to Outkast. You can add that in if you want :P Kidding.
July 7, 201113 yr I already know the winner and I can tell you, you'll love it too :yahoo: I have a strong feeling I'll hate it :( Pleased I need a dollar is not top 50. -_- Only No good advice should have been top 40 so far.
July 8, 201113 yr Author 40 - Kylie Minogue "Love At First Sight" (2002) (+17) The third single from her number one album 'Fever' was this song - one of my favourites by her. It didn't have very good longevity, spending only 6 weeks in the T40 compared to CGYOOMH spending 6 weeks in the top 2. wf421JsG004 Edited July 8, 201113 yr by danielMFAO
