And anyway, surely it's worse they're making a twisted, inaccurate and meaningless chart specifically for the industry...

Based on...?

The fact that UK doesn't have an official similar chart doesn't make it meaningless.. Each country on their own.

It's meaningless because it claims to represent the 100 most popular songs of the week but doesn't because of so many stupid rules corrupting the positions.

Is Rehab really one of the most popular songs of the week? Sure, it's being downloaded a lot because of her death, but it's dropping like a stone as the initial shock wears down. Rehab was one of the most popular songs of the week when it peaked at #9, because it was being promoted, it was on the radio, and it was new. That's what Billboard shows. Because of its rules, we don't have 20-odd year old songs going top 10 or even number one for weeks (Fast Car, Killing in the Name, In the Air Tonight) and recurring songs that will NEVER go away and stop new acts from charting. (Chasing Cars, I Gotta Feeling, every song from Glastonbury)

Thus, Billboard is not meaningless, and it does represent the 100 most popular songs of the week.

Yes, it is one of the most popular songs of the week, because over the week it's been among the songs which have caused the most people to part with their money in order to own it. That makes far more sense than a song apparently being among the most popular of the week because a few radio producers think it's what the listeners want to hear when sales clearly show the opposite.

Are you basically saying old songs can't be popular? Or that when a song is popular for too long it becomes unpopular? Because neither of those arguments make any sense and if you think they do then you're just agreeing with Billboard without giving any justification for their rules, just saying you agree with them.

Billboard have a chart that accurately represents what the public actually like that week - it's Hot Digital Songs. Maybe an even better measure of that would be if there was a streaming-only chart but Digital Songs is the closest we have to an accurate measure of popularity.

They also have a chart that accurately represents what radio producers *think* are the most popular songs at the moment - that being Radio Songs.

Billboard Hot 100 mixes the two together in roughly equal proportions, in essence saying the opinions of radio producers are equal to the opinions of the entire US public. That's a few thousand being equal to 300 million.

And then they add in a few rules that prevent genuinely popular songs from charting just because they're 'too old'. The Billboard Hot 100 is twisted far beyond being an accurate representation of popularity.

I see where people are coming from, but songs like Don't Stop Believin and Make You Feel My Love, even though they were released years, or even decades before, I felt they were most popular in 2010, not in the year where they got promoted (although I wasn't alive the year Don't Stop Believin' came out, but you know ).

What's Set Fire To The Rain suddenly ahead of Someone Like You? Was it performed/used somewhere? :o

In addition to those two, Rolling In The Deep is still at #10 and Rumour Has It is up to #81 :D Also Turning Tables is #192 and Make You Feel My Love is #252.

And on iTunes Albums, '21' is #3, '19' is #21 (:kink:), 'iTunes Festival - London 2011' is #35 and 'iTunes Live From SoHo' is #93. :D

On a non-Adele note, 2NE1 are #49 :o From what I understand of them being mentioned quite a lot on this site they're a K-Pop act? Or is it J-Pop? One of the two. That's doing pretty well. :o

F**ing hell I just died of HAPPINESS  I actually love them! Which song is it? They're K-Pop btw! Very fresh sounding! Aahhh this is literally a loon moment! :w00t:

EDIT: They're not showing on my feed at all in the top 200?

And Pumped Up Kicks is at 16 :o

Album, not song :P Probably should have made that clear

Oh, I was getting really excited  Still good though, there's only one English song on it! :o It's called Can't Nobody, and it actually sounds a lot like Black Eyed Peas, so maybe that's why it's selling? :P In seriousness, iTunes has a small share of the market share so it's entirely plausible most of the people who bought it can speak Korean tbh. It is a brilliant album, if they released Can't Nobody (they could, there's an entirely English version as well as the Korean one) here I just know Eric Blob would be looning over it

Their new song I Am The Best is in the current BJSC as well, incidentally.

Pumped Up Kicks up to #12 now! It's been doing well on US iTunes for a while but pleasing to see it now near the top 10 :D I still have some hope it could repeak here as it's back up to #24 on UK iTunes after dropping out of the top 40 at the start of the week. I have a bad feeling it may end up at #27 again next week though  Just hoping for it to stay top 40 this week.

Lighters up to #2 :o It hasn't yet started reclimbing on UK iTunes! But then again it probably still isn't getting played on the radio at all yet whereas airplay for it has started Stateside. The USA love them some Eminem :P Although Space Bound is only #228 despite the video premiere! :o

'21' back up to #2 on iTunes Albums, 'Back To Black' down to #3. Eric Church (who?) is #1 with 'Chief'.

You wouldn't like him, he's country :P Had about six songs chart on the BBHot100, but his previous two albums only got to #29 & #17.

2NE1 all the way down at 67 now (album) :( Plus, it's not their album To Anyone like I thought it was, it's their 'mini album' which is (rather unimaginitvely) titled '2NE1 2nd Mini Album' which is entirely in Korean (bar a few English words/phrases dropped in), as opposed to To Anyone which has one English track on which sounds like Black Eyed Peas so would've probably sold the album

I know who he is :P The 'who?' was just for effect

I've heard Lighters get played on Radio 1 once, around lunch time. And they've probably played it other times too. Capital play it loads aswell (mainly at night), and Radio 1Xtra have even playlisted it. And I'm sure other stations play it too. But it is impressive that it's got up to #2! Surely a future #1 then! :o

Still a good achievement for an asian-pop act :yahoo:

Just as LFN was surely a future #1. :(
