We could be seeing her at #1 next week with one of her singles, its so sad, without sounding too morbid, Back To Black would be the perfect choice or Tears Dry On Their Own.

Wow I'm actually in shock!

From a chart perspective, I honestly hope 'Back To Black' can finally reach the chart position it deserved back in 2007 and blocks JLS from #1 next week. Also it'd be nice to have the album BTB back at #1 next week - a worthy album to end 21's (second) run.

I would like JLS to be blocked from #1, but if Michael Jackson didn't go to #1 after his death, can Amy...?

The album could very well do it though, as Adele's sales aren't that high anymore and there aren't any big releases.

Is it wrong that I see "Back To Black" possibly selling like "19" this year? Well, not 800K, but more 300-500K?
I hope Amy's BTB can outsell James Blunt's awful Back To Bedlam, so it becomes the best selling album of the 21st century. It would be the only good thing to come from the tragedy :(

Soo Sad that Back to Black will reach a new peak after her death..

Sometimes It sadens me to see people buying music after person has died..somethings wrong somewhere.

I guess it would be a lovely tribute for B2b hitting the top spot.

Third :P

I think it definitely could go back to #1, it doesn't need to sell that much, probably 50k max. I think I'll download it (tomorrow).

It's a bit different. MJ had zillions of songs to choose from, this time the focus will be on one or two songs.

EDIT: I think Man in the Mirror was 'the chosen one' (I don't live in the UK so didn't follow the news there)

Can anyone recall the sales of 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' when it got to #1, and possibly sales of 'Man In The Mirror' for the same week? Amy probably does have the advantage of the focus only being on a couple of songs, but I'm wondering if that will be countered by 'She Makes Me Wanna' possibly having bigger opening sales than ETD.

Thats true. She has such few hits and little material, but what a huge impact she made on music on such limited material.

I'm not sure she can make it #1 on singles but almost sure she will on album chart.

I can understand the theory of Amy not being able to hit #1 if Michael Jackson can't but Amy is far more known to this generation of music-buyers. MJ's songs wouldn't really have been bought by teenagers/young adults (unless, like me, they loved MJ despite the age of his music).

Amy appealed to lots of generations imo and is obviously more current than MJ was in 2009. I think 'Back to Black' deserves to go to #1. Obviously I would have wanted 'Man In The Mirror' to go to #1 instead but out of JLS and Amy, Amy has to win based on song quality, if not the circumstances.

It was around the 60k mark for Cascada and a few thousand less for MJ. I still think that JLS will open with at least 90k if not 100-110k, I'd be incredibly surprised if anything by Amy managed to shift that. She Makes Me Wanna denying Back To Black a posthumous #1 would surely cause as much outrage on here as Cascada beating MJ!

I don't think BTB (song) will get anywhere near #1 to be honest but it could go top 10 or maybe even top 5.

And there's also the sales week to consider, as the poster above me said. Michael died on a Friday IIRC so MITM's sales were split over two weeks. Amy died on a Saturday so the bulk of her sales will be in one chart week.

Jacko actually died on a Thursday.

The thing which made Cascada's win so 'controversial' here was the fact the sales gap was so small and MJ had been #1 on all the mids. The same won't happen here. It will still be a bit annoying if Amy gets to #2 but I don't think she will. BTB (album) should get back to #1 and Frank might re-peak in the top 10 though.

The difference between the two situations is that in the ETD/MITM battle, the outrage was caused by MJ not being #1 (not Cascada getting there) whereas the outrage that could be caused by SMMW/BTB would be because of JLS being #1 (not necessarily Amy missing it).
