July 23, 201113 yr The thing with covers is that they're usually waste of time because the original is so much better... Nobody can claim that Unchained Melody is a bad song, in fact it's wonderful, but the new versions are totally pointless.
July 23, 201113 yr Reading this thread is like reading a list of my favourite songs! :drama:  I don't have an answer to this question really. I could probably listen a couple dozen #1s that I hate, but I think choosing one definitively is too difficult for me.
July 23, 201113 yr Surely the Crazy Frog for the UK? And for Ireland it would be 'Jumbo Breakfast Roll' :puke2:
July 24, 201113 yr You didn't spend any time with someone you really like when these songs were on back in the 90s, did you? :P Would you have even *wanted* to have spend time with someone who liked them? I know this is quite frankly a dangerous opinion to make on Buzzjack, but the worst number 1 for me since I started listening to the charts in 2009, and ignoring all novelty, x factor, and charity singles, the worst for me has to be... Adele - Someone Like You I just find it tediously dull, and I was watching her performance at the BRITS on TV, so I still don't get all the hype about it. What's worse is that I don't know a single person who doesn't like it! What about married people? :P As for SLY, I find it OK, but nothing special.
July 24, 201113 yr The thing about Someone Like You, it was quite obvious that the BRITs performance made people think the song was better than it actually was. Like, the song when top 20 on iTunes on release week, was performed on Radio 1's Live Lounge, charted 2 weeks in the top 40. So basically, we discussed it quite a bit before the BRITs performance, and I remember comments like "This song is quite nice", or "It's a bit boring, but kind of in a good way". People didn't hate the song, but you'd've thought the song was only slightly above average from reading the comments about it. It was only until after the BRITs performance that everybody's opinions of the song vastly changed. It suddenly started winning all the games, and all that sort of stuff. And you got all the "Best #1 since Bad Romance" type comments. This massive change in opinion, but the song was exactly the same as before. Just found it kind of weird really. Not saying it's a bad song, of course.

That would be because the live version is a hell of a lot better than the studio version... a live version of Someone Like You won BJSC months before the song became a hit so there was already a lot of BuzzJack love there, just not for the studio version which is generally considered to be just 'okay'. I remember a lot of comments in the '21' thread in the R&B/Hip-Hop/Soul forum (now in the Adele forum obviously) where people said they were extremely disappointed with the studio version of Someone Like You. They seemed pretty similar to me (although that's just a testement to Adele's voice). And in the chart show, they played the Live Lounge version the first two weeks it charted, and I'm pretty sure the comments people made there were just things like "That's rather nice". Although I do remember after the performance, I was hearing the live version everywhere on the radio, etc. and then after a few weeks when the album version started getting played, it did take ages to get used to, because I still kept expecting to hear the notes from the live version. Edited July 24, 201113 yr by Eric_Blob
July 24, 201113 yr The main reason that I'll always listen to the live version of Someone Like You as opposed to the studio version is because the former doesn't have her launching into an unnecessary falsetto in the chorus. I think this is the reason a lot of people were disappointed with the studio version.

But the live version is still miles better for not including it.
July 24, 201113 yr Westlife - worst attempt was MANDY!!! Robson and Jerome, Gareth Gates all deserve their nominations!!
July 24, 201113 yr Mr Blobby :puke2: Mr Blobby is actually very cleverly written. Check out the lyrics they are inspired.
July 24, 201113 yr Would you have even *wanted* to have spend time with someone who liked them? I was ten.
July 24, 201113 yr It was Fatman Scoop's 'Be Faithful', easily. Awful awful awful, and was my least favourite song of all-time before I heard 'Single Ladies'.
July 24, 201113 yr For me: Martine McCutcheon - Perfect Moment So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem Basshunter - Now Your Gone Cliff Ritchard - Millennium Prayer Mister Oizo - Flat Beat Afroman - Because I Got High

July 24, 201113 yr Yeah, that bit is annoying, but I've got used to it now so it doesn't bother me as much any more. But the live version is still miles better for not including it. I agree. I found that weird when I first heard the album version. But I've got used to it now since it's the version I've heard like 99% of the time in the past 4 months or whatever. I would've done the same if I were her, since when singing like that, you're more likely to make a mistake. When singing live, it's probably not worth the risk. Same with the bridge in the album version of E.T.
July 24, 201113 yr Next week if Swagger Jagger goes to No 1-In the meantime We No speak Americano and Party Rock Anthem
July 24, 201113 yr Surely the Crazy Frog for the UK? And for Ireland it would be 'Jumbo Breakfast Roll' :puke2: I agree, Jumbo Breakfast Roll was terrible! But Jedward have had 3 #1's in Ireland, every one worse than the other! :L And what did you think of the Rubberbandits? I loved it, as did all my friends! EDIT: Sorry, Rubberbandits never got to #1 :( #2 for 5 weeks and the 2nd biggest selling single of 2010 ... Edited July 24, 201113 yr by -Irish-Ladd-
