July 31, 201113 yr So do the mods :kink: Seriously though, GUTTED you didn't qualify, 2NE1 are one of my favourite bands right now, apparently they are performing in the UK with Bigbang later in the year :o I'm obsessed with them too  And apparently they're working with Will.I.AM on English material for an international release :o They could be huge tbh, and help K-Pop break through!
July 31, 201113 yr Yep, I'm pretty sure that they WILL be the first K-pop act to break internationally.
July 31, 201113 yr I don't think any K-Pop acts will ever break through internationally. But if any do, Wonder Girls are FAR more likely than 2NE1.
July 31, 201113 yr A J-Pop artist is far more likely to break through than anybody from Korea. Girl groups generally are not IN at the minute and the likes of Pussycat Dolls were absolutely panned as time went on for their 'one singer, four backup dancers' routine - a group of five or even ten interchangeable singers/back up singers/dancers are not going to float anybody's boat in the Western world. If somebody like Namie Amuro could record a strong English album they might have a chance but then look at Utada who worked with Danja, Timbaland etc, came up with a strong record and still failed to make it (twice!) in the US.
July 31, 201113 yr I do also think Kumi Koda or (as Jark said) Namie Amuro could easily break through with a strong English album. Personally I think Utada's latest was a bit patchy, aside from the GLORIOUS Come Back To Me  I do think 2NE1 could easily break through but I didn't think of the girlgroups who aren't named The Saturdays immediately being flops thing, that could hinder them for sure. I don't remember the last time a girlgroup had a big hit on the Hot 100 tbh, unless I'm forgetting something really obvious.
July 31, 201113 yr Ayumi Namasaki is the only J-pop artist worthy of success. ECjBVoslwFI I have NO idea why it DNQd in BJSC5. :(
July 31, 201113 yr Ayumi  There's SO much J/K-Pop I could send, it rarely does well though. I even tried Chinese pop and that failed
July 31, 201113 yr No-one really from J-Pop can be successful internationally compared to K-Pop as much as I love the divas (Ayumi, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, Hikaru Utada). J-Pop isn't really a wave. BoA tried in the US and failed, Ayumi tried to break internationally and failed and I think others don't try. Plus the fact they get so much money in Japan itself there's no need. K-Pop on the otherhand is another story, if a K-Pop artist releases a song in korea, it costs less than $0.20 per song and you don't get much money either. Hence they break into the asian countries (Japan and China in particular and Japan LOVES K-Pop at the moment due to the momentum). Plus K-Pop has a much more wider international fanbase compared to J-Pop. @Tom, where did you hear that 2NE1 and Big Bang are performing together in the UK soon? YG Entertainment isn't having a family concert at the moment, so far it's only confirmed that Cube Entertainment (B2ST, 4Minute, G.NA) would be having a family concert in the UK as they saw fans cheering in the streets for wanting a K-Pop concert in London due to the SM Ent. concert success in Paris. @Addy! Fatale, no worries I will be joining you soon as most of the entries I put forward to BuzzJack contest would be mainly asian pop (K/J-pop) so I am expecting a bunch of DNQ's and possibly one lucky qualified entry reaching the bottom tier of the final :P Edited July 31, 201113 yr by Oricon

July 31, 201113 yr It only takes one song to succeed where others have failed. I am on the lookout for some J/K-Pop to succeed with :D
July 31, 201113 yr Yes! I qualified! I'm really hooked on 'Ring Meg' :kink: but there is alot of hate for 'Ring Meg' here  at least someone likes it :magic: My votes 12 - X 10 - X 08 - X 07 - X 06 - Greenfroze 05 - X 04 - X 03 - X 02 - Elëdan 01 - UnoShake Really happy for the qualifiers! :D but gutted for Greenfroze, Elëdan and UnoShake :(
July 31, 201113 yr I wanna know who gave Quintessa 12 points! Me! Amazing song!! YAY 4 QUALIFYING. <3
August 1, 201113 yr Ayumi Namasaki is the only J-pop artist worthy of success. Ayu is pretty rubbish really. I never really liked her but in the past few years she's at least had a couple of exciting singles like Rule/Sparkle but now she seems to be recording the same bland rubbish as Koda! And her sales have gone down the shitter too unlike Namie who still sells well. Namie is the ultimate for me. Amazing dancer, strong singer, fashion icon, the sort of star quality than only Utada can come close to. An English-language What A Feeling would tear up every chart in every country across the world.
August 1, 201113 yr Namie is INCREDIBLE  I nearly sent Make It Happen with K-poppers Afterschool to XXXIV. I haven't followed her THAT closely, but she was one of the first J-pop singers I knew about and I love her early Eurobeat influenced stuff. Oh and thanks for the info Oricon, the YG showcase news was just a Twitter rumour but it was rumoured that SNSD were coming to Europe and they did, so I'm keeping the faith, I don't really like Cube artists tbh :(

Amazing dancer, strong singer, fashion icon, the sort of star quality than only Utada can come close to. An English-language What A Feeling would tear up every chart in every country across the world. Namie's vocals are weak but her dancing skills are the strongest compared to the other 3. Utadas vocals are strongest and she's probably the best vocalist Ayumi doesn't really dance (tried and failed) and her vocals can be quite shakey, she's really known for her trend setting and influence in Japan. Influence wise, she's the biggest out of the 4. Koda Kumi is known as the "Queen of Live" in Japan because of her awesome live performances because her vocals and dancing balances out. So overall, it all balances lol. Oh and the sales factor, you have to factor in the fact Ayumi and Kumi are from Avex who milk the crap out of their artists (both have 10+ studio albums and 50 singles within 10 years). Namie on the otherhand has 35+ singles and not as many studio albums within her 15+ career year span and is part of Avex but on a sub-label hence she as much more control over her stuff. If you constantly release stuff to the public, it leads to over-exposure and hence the public gets tired of it. Edited August 1, 201113 yr by Oricon
August 1, 201113 yr Yeah it's ridiculous the sheer number of singles Koda puts out especially. Namie has released one per year now since PLAY was released and it's worked pretty well (although none have come close to the huge sales of 60s70s80s) since Past>Future sold over half a million copies and a few thousand more than PLAY (as an album though I don't think it's as strong as PLAY, but then her best for me is the recent Checkmate! collaborations album - every song is utter gold!). I do need to educate myself more on 90s Namie, Utada (I only have Heart Station - beautiful chill-out album - and the two English records) and Koda (I only have Trick and Universe although I deleted most of those, her best songs for me are Taboo and Driving). Maybe I'll investigate Ayu more one day too.
