I suppose this should go in the Dance forum but it appeals to 'indie types' more, I'd say. He won Unknown Pleasures with Goth Star, remember? And yet I've never seen a further mention of him on the entirity of BJ </3 Saddening.

His 2009 album 'Dark Rift' is pure excitement, consisting of various addictive synths, chopped up percussion and a variety of tempos making an insane techno-y sound all the way through.

There's also his newer album, 'Thee Physical', which certainly ramps up the 90s dance aspect and revolves around sex. I like the premise? It seems to have been positively received but I'm really not keen on it:

The album just sounds so MESSY and lacks oomph! This is one of the best tracks mind, still it features lyrics such as 'we can be trans', which warrants a :manson: yes? Whilst the idea of gender being obselete is a good one in theory, I can't actually tell if he's being serious or not. And then there's the 'linguistic rework' of the album:

The understanding of the third dimensional “real.” Objectification. Thee high awareness that is sensation. Life is sensation/al. All sensation is sensory. Feel your mind. Touch my mind. The infinite symbolism of the never ending passing of energy. Thee flux.

Uh...wut.

But regardless I do love a bit of Pictureplane and I recommend that Buzzjack talks about him more please, yes? See also: Teengirl Fantasy in 2009, HEALTH and †‡†.

He is being serious. All of "THEE PHYSICAL" is about queer culture (mainly 90s acid-house music / drugs) and queer body image.

"Negative Slave" "Post Physical" and "Body Mod" are awesome. I think I prefer it to his first album, much more consistent.

(Also, I'm pretty sure he says "and we can be trance")

Judging by the title of the song though, the two are interchangeable so you can see it as being either really.

Also, I've been wanting to give †‡† a listen for a while but I can't for the LIFE of me work out how I'm meant to google/search for them ANYWHERE!

Yeah, they are 'rrrritualzzz'/'ritualz' and they are amazing! One of the very few listenable witch house bands.

fun fact: pictureplane coined the term "witchhouse" / pretty much started the 'genre'

OH ALSO, he's so good live! see him if you can. i saw him twice, once opening for HEALTH and once opening for washed out/small black. both were a party.

I see. I do find Dark Rift to be far more consistent though! The only weak track is Dimensional Rip for me.

I doubt he's ever actually BEEN to the UK </3 (and to see these sorts of bands I'd need to drag friends along whose music taste travels no further than Linkin Park etc., sigh.)

oh. shit.
