August 6, 201113 yr A tomato contains seeds. Therefore, it is a fruit. Does that mean a chilli is a fruit?
August 6, 201113 yr Does that mean a chilli is a fruit? Yes, it is. That is the definition of 'fruit'.
August 7, 201113 yr Yes, it is. That is the definition of 'fruit'. Debatable. The dictionary definition says that fruit is sweet tasting. I wouldn't describe a chilli thus.
August 7, 201113 yr Debatable. The dictionary definition says that fruit is sweet tasting. I wouldn't describe a chilli thus. That depends on what you mean by 'fruit'. With the help of Wikipedia there seems to be two definitions - if it has seeds it's technically a fruit, but to be a 'culinary fruit' it needs to taste sweet.

Call me old fashioned but I rate the Oxford Dictionary of English as more authoritative than Wikipedia
August 7, 201113 yr Call me old fashioned but I rate the Oxford Dictionary of English as more authoritative than Wikipedia  Perhaps.
August 7, 201113 yr Call me old fashioned but I rate the Oxford Dictionary of English as more authoritative than Wikipedia The question should be: Which is more authoritative - Wikipedia or "The Sun"?
August 7, 201113 yr The question should be: Which is more authoritative - Wikipedia or "The Sun"? What does The Sun have to do with it?
