He mainly gets brought up in unfavourable terms in other former X Factor contestants articles or in the week before the X Factor final, again unfavourably. And what was the date, 7 months later, when she appeared again on the front page of the Sun, this time claiming she had only just discovered she was gay, even though she had an affair with another woman a year before? Armed with the evidence that she too is a pathological liar, I can get going on the Twitter accounts! :D

Perhaps he lied because, despite all things, there remains mainstream homophobia. He was a young lad and it's a brave step. You seem to assume he lied just to sell albums/ singles, he was probably advised to do that by people he trusted, and being young took that advice. What do you want him to do hand back any royalties he got pre coming out? Would that assuage you?

None of us will never know for sure but what I don't understand is why it matters so much to you if he has or not? Your argument seems to run that a he has lied about this then you can't trust a word he says.

 

If you look at george michael for instance, a man who actually dated women in the 80s (even sleeping with them) and never admitted his sexuality until more or less forced to, yet he is regarded highly now for hits openness. almost every band or artist has indulged over the years in hype, maybe not in the area of sexuality but in others.

I am bored with this argument. I started this thread and wanted it to be about Joe's new album Classic but a certain person has hijacked it with his own beef about Joe, which, I might add, he takes onto every forum he can find.

I'm not interested in their private lives. Isn't the fact that people think they sell loads of records but don't enough? This whole did Joe lie about being gay thing is impossible to prove either way, it's a very complicated matter he deseves the benefit of the doubt over. And it's not like he's gained anything from it anyway.

Joe is fit/fitter than comments stopped etc. It should actually increase appeal because they're not gonna be with another woman but that's the way things are to some. "I used to drag my mother to Westlife concerts until Mark came out as gay."

On the face of it, you are right about the older audiences point though (in general of course) but I think times are changing.

Yeah but you can read between the lines, most people are more savvy than to come out with blatant homophobia in this day and age. One of them says she stopped going to Westife concerts, some guy stopped idolising Mark, one doesn't think she can fancy him now, and two others wish he wasn't gay. I was only looking to see if people agreed with me about Mark having a great voice and that comes up in the first two pages! I don't know if some of it is homophobia, it's more just preference in some cases. It's easier to fantasize about people with less barriers in the way. It's interesting to note that directly after Mark came out, Westlife turned from a boyband into a manband by releasing You raise me up, going for a more mature audience.

 

Do you think for instance tha Joe can aim his music at a young audience and be successful and what about Marcus, what type of demographic will he be aiming for? Perhaps Marcus can show Joe the way to make being a modern gay popstar work.

I thnk you raise a good point but I think you are generalising. Certainly from my experience, my teenage son & 23rd year old daughter are much more tolerant and open minded than my own mother. I think Will's audience is older mainly because he produces in the main sophistocated adult pop. Young people only want instant catchy tunes with little substance behind them and is why Will has continued to be a long term successful album artist even though he's struggled for commercial airplay.
