Just one song will crash your point: "Hips Don't Lie".

Maybe you're right. No idea why they completely snub Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera tracks then. Shall have to see this time next week.

Are you going to do your iTunes Top100 Update, Bray?

94. I'm On One (feat. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne) - DJ Khaled

It's such a shame this isnt' doing better. It's hanging around really well though. But when Lil Wayne is arguably the biggest artist on the planet atm, you'd think he'd be able to get a few more top 40 hits...

Lil Wayne arguably the biggest artist on the planet? He's currently number one in the US iTunes because of his massive fanbase - this happened last year with 'Right Above It'. It does help that 'How To Love' had longevity there but he isn't exactly 'massive' to the general public in the same way that Katy Perry, Adele and Eminem are for example.

Drake is also very unlucky in the UK - everything he touches flops excluding 'What's My Name' :( Tbh 'I'm On One' isn't commercial enough to go T40 but all the hip hop fans are downloading it which is why it's still T100

If "Tha Carter IV" sells more than a million copies in its first week (As III did) then maybe he's the biggest. He's hardly the only artist who can score #1s on iTunes at will though, and his sales outside the US are meagre.

"Moment 4 Life" and "Find Your Love" did alright, the latter should have been huge.

He is?

I guess so. :coffee:

It's OFFICIAL. Lil Wayne is the biggest artist in the world.

And it's also official that Britney Spears is bigger than Lady Gaga. :kink:

Hmmph, current popularity bars (I suspect that 99% of LMFAO is one song alone on that chart, same with Maroon 5 and Pitbull, and Foster The People). I go by Facebook likes!

Because then Eminem and Rihanna are the biggest artists in the world!! :coffee:

5. Shakira

6. Justin Bieber

That probably a pretty decent indicator - maybe swap LP for Foo Fighters or Kings of Leon.

I was a bit shocked to see them there. They certainly had a massive fanbase once upon a time, but that was a few years before Facebook got big. So unless their fans are just very loyal. I don't know too much about their music, but my friends that used to like them say they don't like them anymore because they completely change their style with each album, or something like that.

I was also shocked to see Akon so high. For a similar reason to Linkin Park. He would've been in the top 10 if Facebook was this popular in 2006, but I'm surprised people are still liking his page in 2011.

It's still hard to say bands like U2 and the Rolling Stones aren't amongst the top 10 acts in the world even today. Maybe not for record sales but none of the above artists get anywhere close to making as much money from touring. U2's 2009-2011 tour saw them play 110 gigs, it earned them just shy of three quarters of a billion dollars. That's insane. To put it into perspective, Jay-Z was the highest earning rapper during the last year and earned just over $30m.

That's why I mentioned Foos and KoL, as they're two of the biggest festival draws around.

You're correct, in a way. I think U2 and Rolling Stones are bigger than the Facebook leaderboard suggests, but remember Facebook is dominated more by a younger generation, and even older people who use Facebook probably don't have the time to go around liking the pages of their favourite artists. So the Facebook chart will make artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem, etc. who appeal more to kids, seem bigger than they actually are, I suppose.

Also, about the touring, you're forgetting that most of Jay-Z's fans (and hip hop fans in general) are working class and a younger generation, compared to U2's fanbase who are generally more middle class, and older. A lot of Jay-Z fans simply can't afford to go to many tours, so that's not an entirely fair comparison (although neither is Facebook, or iTunes popularity bars ).

Oh I agree. I was just trying to say you can't decide something like who's a bigger artist basing it on only one or two things. Ultimately though there's only one artist in the world at the moment who has the Facebook/Twitter popularity of the youth, massive grossing tours, ridiculous merchandise sales and sells millions of records. Lady Gaga.....

Yes I agree. Lady Gaga has it all in that respect. She has the good live performances, so her tours sell well. She has music that appeals to the kids, but it also appeals to the adults since a lot of her songs have that 80's feel to them. She appeals to the "I only like artists who are talented" crowd aswell, since it's emphasized that she's actually good at singing, and writes her own lyrics, etc.
