October 13, 201113 yr To be honest, I've stopped caring whether he'll be successful and am just so looking forward to the album!
October 13, 201113 yr Nice to see a few Matt fans joining in from DS :) Welcome! Be sure to look around the site, lots of different forums that may interest you :) I see it has got very 'batten down the hatches' over there hasn't it, but aside from appreciation threads I would say 70% of discussion there is people criticising artists so don't take it too much to heart! I think our release schedule in the chart forum here lists 'Starlight' as the second single here too, and they only normally post information when it's confirmed by a source or listed by retail outlets I think. From what I've heard I think Stars and Lovers would have been better with it's bouncier sing along chorus, the 'oh, oh' bits reminds me of The Killers, but think Starlight is single material too and is definitely better than Run For Your Life, my only worry is it getting swallowed up by other releases and whether radio will be reluctant to support him. Album sales this week are very poor, possibly going to be lower than lasts weeks 36k winning total, unless both Noel and Matt sell in decent numbers and pre orders suggest they might, then neither are going to need big numbers to chart top 2, put it this way if he cannot achieve atleast number 2 next week with sales as low as they are across board at the moment, then I really will fear for him. I think he'll do alright next week, the challenge will be to stop the album plummeting as the big guns really start to appear over the coming weeks, the problem with RFYL clearly not connecting very well with the public, is that its difficult for the album to sell off the back of it, to chart only top 5 with an X Factor performance IS poor, and he needs to show people the quality of the album, he needs to perform the album tracks on things like Alan Carr, the Album Chart Show is a good showcase but I think its on late at night? I'm really quite annoyed they went with RFYL, they clearly thought it being a Barlow track would sell itself but while Gary's Take That hits speak for themselves, his song writing for others has varied wildly. It's nowhere near the most commercial track on the album, so why did they go for it? It's poor performance is now seriously hindering him

October 13, 201113 yr Well, to be really honest, I do actually care if he's successful, as I want to him to be able to get more material out there after Letters, I think he's a brilliant song writer and I love his voice. You make a lot of good points PurpleNurples. I'm not sure if RFYL is seriously hindering him in the bigger picture - obviously if one were only to look at the DS one would think that but that's only a small bunch of people - the one's doing all the 'hate' are actually the same posters who gleefully predicted his demise during the live shows, some of the things they came up with then were beyond belief. We have done a lot of speculating about RFYL and decided it was intended as a 'transitional' song from XF to his own material and mostly we were pretty gutted when we first heard it. Interestingly, he did an interview on R1 this morning and said exactly that (transitional song). I've come to like it actually, but totally agree that his own songs are way way better and obviously I'm hoping the strategy won't backfire in the long run. So, whilst having many doubts about RFYL I find the album tracks so immediately captivating I'm sort of assuming others will too, though I know there's no accounting for taste!!! Re: the DS - I guess the craziness over there relates to it being focussed on what is effectively a reality TV show, even if it does pose as a talent show. That said, I'm grateful to XF for having given Matt a chance, but as he says himself, it's a double edged sword. We've (the DSMCAT) been exploring options for moving house, so to speak, not because of all the hate but because of wanting to de-link from the XF and seeing Matt as a musician first and foremost. I'm finding BuzzJack a bit confusing to navigate around - I've seen there are Artist Forums but haven't found one for Matt yet, is there one? The thing is, we talk a LOT - the DSMCAT is the biggest forum on DS (lol) we're half way through part 37 already and we've only been there since Monday  :o and I'm not sure if it's possible to bring over links like YTs, gifs, jpegs etc?? Have to say though, this does seem a much nicer place, the rules and regs appear stronger, and it's all about the music!
October 13, 201113 yr There's no Matt forum here. But then forums on this site tend to have to be massively popular to keep going. If you want to discuss Matt you could use this thread or perhaps start an appreciation thread here in the Pop forum. All people would be welcome and you'll soon get used to all the other parts of the board. The Chart forum is particularly good for discussing music in general and there's nowhere near the amount of 'Matt haters' DS has. In fact the majority of posters here are tolerant of all artist and usually would only joke about artists they don't like rather than make 4 or 5 hate threads. As for DS, I knew there was something wrong when I saw the thread about Matt hating Mischa. He picked ONE girl at random to go and it happened to be her and all of a sudden he's Hitler? Just some very sad people there. I thought he came across really well on Radio 1 this morning. He seemed to praise XF a lot considering he's being made out by others to be 'hating' it and 'being ungrateful'.

My 'it's on its way email' for the deluxe from HMV has arrived! :w00t: Sad people definitely, I mean 'flop watch?!', I 've never understood the mentality of the types of DS posters who just seem to be overly negative about EVERYTHING, the TV discussions are full of people watching shows JUST to moan about them? Then there's the music forums which just turns into slanging matches about who is more successful, one of those threads started to criticise Matt somehow descended into an all out fan war about whether JLS or Alexandra Burke was most successful? (What's with the large amount of Alex fans slating Matt over there btw? have I missed something?) I just tend to think people who spend their time being negative about someone (the flop watchers  ) must have rather sad lives, atleast you guys, Jamak and co who are obsessed with Matt in the right way are expending your energies positively. I've never got the utter glee some people have over there about 'flopping' artists, X Factor acts in particular get it in the neck, even Leona! I agree that people here are much more tolerable, I find it much friendlier, I do lurk and post occasionally on the Matt AT on DS and I think a lot of you guys are new to 'following' an artist from the posts I've read and are not so clued up on things like Itunes, how promo works etc, is that right? You will find BJ incredibly knowledgeable in that respect, you will learn a lot from knowledgeable chart savvy posters and you will also find the itunes chart dissected to within an inch of it's life  It will definitely be the place to be to follow Matt's album progress next week. Forums here tend to be earnt on merit I think, and like T Boy says they have to be kept very busy to survive. New forums tend to have be to voted for by a large majority I think and many have fallen by the wayside over the years. I see Amazon have taken the very unusual step of commenting on pre order sales to announce they believe Noel will beat Matt next week. I think this is actually a good thing, normally the head honchos at retail only comment when big sales are expected or to comment on XF winners singles sales and stuff. Although they say they believe Noel will beat Matt (I do too) it's definitely positive that they believe this is a big chart battle and makes me believe BOTH albums are going to sell well next week. He quotes that "Matt Cardle's album has been pre-ordering very well" and Noel has 13% more pre orders". When you factor in the other outlets, I think Noel is clearly going to outsell Matt but Matt's sales will be nothing to be sniffed at either, Noel will sell fantastically on the likes of itunes and as the Amazon mp3 of the week £3.99 is a massive boost but Matt should garner a lot from supermarket sales, and I'm predicting a very healthy total.
October 13, 201113 yr Hi Purple, Your post is very interesting, I like that it is positive and realistic at the same time. I like the tone of Buzzjacks, DS can get pretty hysterical at times! I also like your bouncy smileys. Very cute. I do find the big pictures people have against their posting accounts a little off putting at times. The gifs are a little distracting as well. Anyway back to Matt I would be really pleased if Matt's album stayed in the top ten for a while rather than popped to the top and out again. I haven't listened to the album yet because I want to hear the whole thing rather than the previews. I am currently listening to Sparks, which I prefer to Chemical. I have no idea why Alexandra fans are so anti Matt - they weren't even in the same X Factor season. She has had to move some release dates because of Matt but they couldn't be further apart in terms of competition as artists. I would love to have your prediction of solid sales come true. Overall 200,000 would do for me. You obviously have a good idea of predicting sales and I'll be interested to hear what you think is going to happen over the next week. Thanks :w00t: My first crazy, jiggly smiley!
October 13, 201113 yr ^^^^THIS  Hi JaMak, Crazy, mad smiley faces on here! :yahoo: I agree the yahoo one is the best. Quite like this one too :w00t:

Thanks :w00t: My first crazy, jiggly smiley! I'm no expert but I'm taking the fact that Amazon think it is some kind of chart battle and not the 'Matt will be lucky to make top 10' feeling demonstrated erm elsewhere :P and have felt the need to comment on said chart battle, that that suggests that BOTH artists will sell well. I would say I'm cautiously optimistic about next week now. There's no shame in being beaten by Noel Gallagher, one of half of one of the best selling British bands in history, I would wager he was the most popular of the brothers too, the tracks he featured on tended to do very well and his album has been highly anticipated for some time. To be anywhere near him in pre orders is definitely a compliment to Matt. Re our board layout here, it can take some getting used to, people here LOVE their big signatures, (the pictures at the bottom of the text) but if it's not for you, you can select 'edit profile' scroll down to 'options', select 'board settings' and there's a few questions about whether you want to view signatures, gifs in other people's posts. Just select 'no' :) I see a lot of you on DS are considering joining here, please do, you may have to settle for just this thread and general music forum to chat Matt for the time being though as the artist forums have got smaller and smaller and culled over time to only the busiest forums, I'm not sure how you go about requesting new forums? There used to be a request thread but it closed so I think we're sticking with what we've got, and only the really active forums are remaining. Even the Leona one was under threat recently. Perhaps over time demand may warrant one :)
October 13, 201113 yr Hi there, first post on BJ! The song's called Starlight :) I'm not sure if it's been officially confirmed that it's the second single yet? But from having listened to the previews on itunes, and been at his live gigs in Inverness and Koko's (London) (yes, I'm a BIG fan of Matt's :D ) I think just about any of his self-penned tracks would do better than RFYL! But the thinking in the DS Matt Cardle Appreciation Thread (DSMCAT) is that Starlight has the most 'chrismassy' feel to it. Just had an e-mail from Play.com that my deluxe 2CD Letters has posted so I should be getting it on Friday/Saturday. Really excited for it. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: Thats lucky, play.com hasn't posted my copy yet :( NOT fair. To be honest, I've stopped caring whether he'll be successful and am just so looking forward to the album! This really, it'd be nice for him to be a success, but the music is what matters.
October 13, 201113 yr Author Have to say though, this does seem a much nicer place, the rules and regs appear stronger, and it's all about the music! Yep, I hate DS and only really go on there because the posters are so obsessive over soaps, X-Factor and the like that they have all have all the news first :P Welcome to the forum, indeed Matt hate on here isn't annoyingly profound :P
October 13, 201113 yr I'm also a DSer (though have walked away from it this week due to the hideousness). I'm not a fan of XF, I saw Matt on it originally because my kids watch it but really fell in love with his Seven Summers stuff rather than the XF performances which, whilst a mile better than anyone else, are mostly contrived. I'm actually a huge Springsteen fan so feel a lot happier on here so I might just stay :D As far as album sales go; Noel is the talent behind Oasis and is bound to sell a huge number of albums - if Matt is 15% behind him when it's all counted I'll be delighted. It makes no difference at all where he charts, it's units sold that count. In my view, particularly for a debut album (by anyone not just an XF winner), i think it's incredible and I have no doubt if it is supported by the label it will sell very well up to Christmas. I really think RFYL was released to fulfill the winners appearance for XF and the real promotion is for the album with the second single pushing sales through to Christmas. I could be wrong but Columbia are orchestrating this not Syco and they are interested in album sales. At the end of the say, so long as he sells enough units for Columbia to stick with him, I'm happy (and if Syco jumped ship in the process that would be a bonus) Edited October 13, 201113 yr by wkdstepmother
October 13, 201113 yr ^Is your username a reference to the alcoholic drink WKD? :P I love WKD! Please let it be a reference to that! Er... ahem. Definitely a big welcome to all the newcomers from DS! :D Matt's album is shaping up to be very big, I don't think he'll beat Noel, but considering I've only heard Run For Your Life and people are saying that's the weak one, I want to hear the strong stuff!
October 13, 201113 yr ^Is your username a reference to the alcoholic drink WKD? :P If you want it to be  though TBH I'm not that clever - it was originally a reference to the musical but that's nowhere near as good  spoilt for choice with smilies :w00t:

October 14, 201113 yr The album has debuted in Ireland and is behind Noel Gallagher and Lisa Hannigan (an Irish singer songwriter that I'd never heard of  ) which is good news especially given the single hasn't done much at all there. Gallagher seems to be easily outselling him though
October 14, 201113 yr The album has debuted in Ireland and is behind Noel Gallagher and Lisa Hannigan (an Irish singer songwriter that I'd never heard of  ) which is good news especially given the single hasn't done much at all there. Gallagher seems to be easily outselling him though Just looked Lisa up on Wiki - she looks very interesting, I'll be giving her a listen later on "Herbie Hancock said of her vocals, "there's so much jazz in the notes and phrases that she picks. She was singing the ninths, the elevenths of the chords...I mean some of the things sound like choices that Miles would have made." (quote from Wiki). Never in a million years did I expect Matt to outsell Noel. Haven't listened to anything from Noel's album yet but I always liked his vocals and barbed edge so might be another purchase for me. I see the knives are out for Matt in the press this morning - has a premeditated, even orchestrated, feel to it; methinks they're giving him the "XF curse label" rather too soon
