Gravitonas are the best thing I've discovered this month  and I don't how the original sounds but I like the version I am hearing now.

And Jody doesn't deserve a top 10 and let alone top 5 or 3...very poor and it goes nowhere.

What else hmmm...yeah Cocoon and Sabi are the only ones I see as a winner from my semi...still haven't heard nothing from the opposite semi.

I don't even know if Tirren even sends songs that he loves, or just the ones that 'sound like a smash' :(

I don't know, it's just the last few entries did seem a bit try-hard.

I think we're all guilty of that to some extent though. Can you honestly say that you liked Loba as much as Variation Of Birds or Never Be Alone? Then again I guess my music taste is quite schizophrenic too, but up until last month I've always played it a bit safe and scandi in BJSC...

Jodi song is far away from 'sound like a smash'

Yeah, Loba was THE MOMENT OF WEAKNESS. This one aside I am not really known as the person who sends songs that do well in BJSC :heehee:

Yeah, we've all been guilty of sending something that 'sounds like a smash' before (Stars In Their Eyes and Strawberry Shake are two of my recent examples, ironic how they ended up performing worse than pretty much all of my other entries ), although I point blank refuse to send anything that I don't love. There are loads of songs that 'sound like winners' to me that I don't even consider because I'm not massively into them and unless I can really support something enough to want it top three in my personal chart then I don't want to even entertain sending it as I know I'd only end up regretting it somewhere down the line. A 5th place that you've introduced to everyone is far more satisfying than a 3rd place that 50% of the voters knew beforehand imo.

Drama is a competent enough pop song but can't compare to either Wind It or most of Kopecka's entries (apart from the last couple which have only been 'good'). HandS' No Romance would have been up there with his best/usual high quality and trampled over the competition, it's just a shame he discovered it a little too late to send :( But it's hardly easy to find and send smash after smash each month, my usual source of great unknown pop - Sweden - has been uncharacteristically lacklustre this summer so I've been a bit lost for entries recently  At least it's a good excuse to send something completely different although I'm well aware that Sunrise will hardly go down as one of my greatest entries! It's by far my favourite song around right now though and represents a side to my music taste that I don't really show enough in this contest and that's good enough for me, you don't have to be pushing boundaries all the time.

That said though, I don't think that any country can say that they're sending their best ever entry this month, there's nothing particularly revolutionary going on in either semi

what about Cocoon?

It's different and stands out from the rest IMO.

It's been talked up a lot but hasn't particularly hit me yet, but then I don't know the Semi 2 songs as well as I know those from Semi 1.

Listening again now, there's definitely something individual about it although I don't envisage it having enough crossover or landslide indie appeal (like Video Games did) to cross the finish line as the winner, although it may well have won Unknown Pleasures! I still think that Yuxhaaq, Numayania and Ashton are the ones to watch here personally. I can see Cocoon in the top five though.

'Cocoon' will only be a good winner if Jark allows the 2nd placed nation to host the next contest. Otherwise BJSC XXXVIII will take 6 months to finish. :D
Cocoon is such a strange song I think, you either get it and love or you don't get it and don't like it :S

I quite definitely cannot send a track that I don't love. I'm not exactly going to send something I know will do badly though if I love it equally to something I know will likely be enjoyed by more people!

I really don't see what marks my last few entries out as being try-hard compared with all the others.

It wasn't even a matter of discovering it too late! It was released by the band a day too late to send :(

I don't think they've been try hard but I do think that Jody is a massive step down in terms of quality from your previous entries. The chorus in particular is just a bit too tacky for my liking.

I actually think it could struggle to qualify given who is actually in the semi with you. If it does manage it, I'd expect it to fair better in the final with some of the voters from Semi I.

I don't know, maybe it's just you don't show almost any diversity at all. And knowing your music taste it's surprising. Klumzee with his 7 (i think) entries showed more diversity than you in the 37 contests.

I've never thought anything I've sent sounded like a winner and I've certainly never sent anything attempting to win. My actual win was unexpected and a song I adore, which I personally think is the best way to win this contest.

Now that definitely is not true! Yeah, I tend to send pop a lot of the time but there's definitely a fair bit of variation in there over 37 different entries. Money Note to Quicksand to Skinny Love to It's Gonna Rain ALONE shows a load of variation in the types of entries I send.

That's why I said 'almost'. I miss Tyron who sends something like Camille to BJSC! :(
There aren't many great Camille-style risks lying around at the moment Pavel - or indeed many great entries at all lying around. I'm not alone in realising it's a mild dry patch at the moment although I still think Drama is bloody great!
Seek and ye shall find. :D
