You should acquaint yourself with Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Bat For Lashes if you have not already done so.

And a bit of Siouxsie and the Banshees wouldn't harm either for that complete F+TM mix.
I am liking this at the moment, but it has nothing on Dog Days Are Over, Cosmic Love, Girl With One Eye, Blinding. Drumming Song, Heavy In Your Arms and my favourite Florence song of all, Howl. I just feel that it this is a little more empty than all of those, but I do like it.

Oh yes, definitely Kate Bush!

Before I loved Florence (ie early 2009, I was pretty much IN LOVE with Lungs on release week ) I'm guilty of being a bit overly judging and writing off Kate Bush (Wuthering Heights, which I loved previously aside) but having been recommnded her prior to loving Lungs I pretty much fell in love

I haven't really listened to the first two much but I have Bat For Lashes' Two Suns album - It is really good with Moon and Moon being my favourite but even that doesn't match this track (for me!) I'll check out the other two at somepoint.

^ Yes a true "buzz track".

'Shake It Out' the album's lead single premieres on Radio 1 on Wednesday (apparently)

The release of the album has been pushed forward a week. Also:

As you may have gleaned from the artwork, the album is called Ceremonials.

Lol all flopped songs are called "buzz tracks"

Love it.

What the Water Gave Me was a buzz track from the start and considering it's one of her highest peaking songs to date based solely on an On Air/On Sale release with no attempt to hype it up whatsoever previous to its release, I would hesitate to call it a "flop".

Except (as many more indie-lite) tend to do, it was released to say "I am back" before pushing the proper lead single. She did the same thing with 'Dog Days' to 'Rabbit Heart' last era.

She isn't some failed US star!

Plus What The Water Gave Me was hardly a flop.

I assume the new single will have a more conventional release. And maybe hopefully will finally get them a top 10 hit that's not a version of You Got The Love.

Not impressed with the artwork for WTWGM or the album - the picture is decent enough for the single but it's ruined by the hideous font, but the whole cover of Ceremonials just looks like a sub-standard M!key Cover Competition entry.

But I suppose it's the actual music that's most important. 'What The Water Gave Me' is very good. Not as good as most of 'Lungs' but that's a hard album to follow up to be fair. At least it's a lot better than 'Heavy In Your Arms' (although being as that was for a Twilight film maybe it's a good thing that it's their least good song). Looking forward to hearing the new single.

I may be alone, but What the Water Gave Me is one of my favorites by her now. Very excited for this album.
Yeah I'm not sure about the artwork myself. There's something about it that I like but the artwork for Lungs was a pretty good representation of the music and if this artwork is the same then I fear we are in for a very sombre album which isn't really what I wanted from Flo. We will see I guess.

What does the nationality have to do with this?

My point was, that if a song is a success it's often declared as "first single" by the fans. If it flops it's "a buzz track".

I'm not saying that she couldn't succeed with this era but #24 with a well promoted (online at least) new track isn't very good for a multi platinum selling superstar. Indie fans are her core audience and still it couldn't match the peak of Noel Gallagher's "buzz track".

I prefer What the Water Gave Me as well. Don't feel Shake It Out yet.

Loving 'Shake It Out', much more instant than 'What the Water Gave Me'.

And my GOD that chorus! In love.
