October 8, 201113 yr Seems fair to me too although the results will look completely different to how I expected with so many penalties :o Would the points from the people who sent their votes between 11am and 11pm be null and void or would they be counted but the country still subject to a penalty?
October 8, 201113 yr My understanding is that they'd be counted but with a penalty, otherwise it seems a bit pointless...
October 8, 201113 yr This again. Bans for 11PM's plus. Deductions for people who simply didn't read the deadline properly (especially since Martyn reminded everyone in this thread last night and I set my alarm particularly early this morning so I COULD vote on time.) I don't think it's practical to ban half the contestants, but they should still receive the 33% deduction if they miss the 11AM but reach the 11PM voting 'deadline'. Oh, so it was you who set the alarm :heehee: Dedication! :D That's where I'm coming from. I don't want to speak for those two, but I would be a bit miffed if I was banned and then the rule didn't apply the next month. Perhaps from now on there should be a rule that if you vote within 4 or so hours after voting has closed then you get the deduction, but any time after that then you get the deduction and a ban? It would tackle the issue we have now. And of course we need to make the reading of the deadline compulsory. :P This sounds rather fair. For situations like if you thought you'd be home from work by the deadline and vote in time but couldn't for any reason.
October 8, 201113 yr All this drama has suddenly made it very interesting. Can't wait for tomorrow night, then, just to see how everything pans out. And for the record, I think a penalty but no ban is quite fair in this case for those who've voted since 11am.
October 8, 201113 yr My understanding is that they'd be counted but with a penalty, otherwise it seems a bit pointless... Yeah, this was my thinking.
October 8, 201113 yr Could we be in for another FSR Rontvia win now with all these 33% deductions? :o
October 8, 201113 yr Could we be in for another FSR Rontvia win now with all these 33% deductions? :o I think Herzebania are still in the way, tbh. I had Kopecka and Hendinia as a certain top 2, with Herzebania behind them. :drama: It's probably also helped my chances quite a bit
October 8, 201113 yr Good lord at the deadline Nazis coming out to play http://www.moopy.org.uk/forums/images/smilies/grin.gif For the record I don't mind either way whether Sober wins or not if it's affected by my voting twenty minutes late (incidentally, when was the last time deadlines were enforced so rigidly when a host patently didn't require the results there and then?), but the amount of deductions that are going to occur will basically render half the results pointless, no? Heaven forbid a bit of pragmatism!
October 8, 201113 yr As long as Numayania comes top 3 that's fine :kink: Oh Tom, you Rose Tyler to Rich's The Doctor.

Heaven forbid a bit of pragmatism! That's the only thing that I'm worried about. We're probably going to get a default winner out of this, which won't be particularly good either. Couldn't you have voted 20 minutes earlier or something? :D
October 8, 201113 yr Oh Tom, you Rose Tyler to Rich's The Doctor. I like to think of myself as more of a Rory.
October 8, 201113 yr Haha! :D I literally only just noticed the deadline was 11am and not pm when I logged in this morning! Not that it matters either way. I'd have been fuming had this happened two or three years ago but really I only comment now as I've never quite understood the deadline fetishism some people on here seem to have! Fair enough if it needs to be done there and then, but the point of a deadline generally is that the contest can continue at a given point. The contest is quite obviously not continuing at this given point, so I can't really see why everyone's spaffing themselves stupid over 'DEADLINES MUST BE MET THIS IS SO UNFAIR' etc.!
October 8, 201113 yr I agree that the deadline was a bit of a joke really, the point of the deadline should be when you want the votes for to enable the host to begin compiling and planning for the final results - something that clearly hasn't happened here as Martyn hasn't been online all day. But, if the mods are going to continue with banning people from entering the next contest if they don't abide by the rules, I don't see how they can easily distinguish between which deadlines should be stuck to and which shouldn't without appearing biased towards certain individuals.
October 8, 201113 yr But, if the mods are going to continue with banning people from entering the next contest if they don't abide by the rules, I don't see how they can easily distinguish between which deadlines should be stuck to and which shouldn't. Martyn has all the times that the posts are received. 95% of people seem to think the deadline was 11pm. So as far as I'm concerned we should accept votes that have come through before that, but with a 33% reduction, as the votes were technically late.
October 8, 201113 yr Oh I understand what you are planning to do Tom, I was more referring to Tyrren's post in that it would be difficult to maintain fairness to the smaller countries if you followed his logic.
October 8, 201113 yr Has Martyn actually logged in since yesterday? When is he actually planning on the compiling the final results - yet alone announcing them in a nice little thread. I'm also not getting my hopes up in finding out who has won tomorrow night - I suspect the final of BJSC XXXVIII will last 2 days. Ashton will declare war on Farahtyn if they're not careful.
October 8, 201113 yr From the mods point of view, we have a problem partially of our own making. We are trying to crack down on non-voting BUT we'd end up with a tiny contest and there was confusion over the deadline. That's why we are willing for all votes send before 11pm to be accepted, but those sent between 11 am and pm to be given a deduction because they have missed the deadline because they didn't read the opening post correctly.
