Supergrass will be in there with Alright and Pulp will have at least two I'd have thought. Does Edwyn Collins count also as that was quite big? Oh and Babybird and Chumbawamba, were they in the correct period? Same for Brimful Of Asha? I can think of a few but not at all sure which count as Britpop and which don't! Some must be wrong though as I think I'm up to 22 tracks now...

Pulp should only have Common People and Sorted For Es and Wizz/Mis-Shapes as those were their biggest singles by far. Oasis wise, have you included Whatever Grebo? I think this should go up to 97, but imo Chumabwamba and Cornershop aren't Britpop. If it goes beyond 97 then yes Manics should have 2 (Design For Life and if You Tolerate this... Outside the remaining 2 Verve and 1 Blur I am stumped too!

I suspect Pulp have 3 singles in top 20.

I think they only have 2 that sold enough for this.

Yes, I guess Disco 2000 would be their next biggest and I can't see that clearing 250K (however much it deserved to  )

Or Help The Aged, but I don't think that sold enough either :(

Help The Aged has no chance...

Disco 2000 had a chart run of 07-13-14-15-12-16-27-35-43-62-68 which includes six top 20 weeks over Christmas 2005, possibly could have sold enough to go silver - not sure how well singles sold in the 11-20 region back then. If it's not in the chart then I'd be curious to know any estimated sales figure you have for it gezza. :D

Well, I was comparing sales in each year really - 97 was one of the biggest selling years for singles, so although it peaked lower than Disco 2000 it could have a chance (a slim one yes!)

I was "liberal" with two entries, one genre wise and one time wise

Well, it is hardly a rigid genre, so that is more than forgiven!

These figures aren't estimates they are "known" sales from a very good source. :D

Ooooo, does that mean you know the figure for Disco 2000 then? :o

And in that case, does it mean it made the chart? :D

If it isn't there, could you give us sales anyway? I would love to know how much Help The Aged, Something Changed and Babies has sold as well :D

Perhaps while we're waiting we could list some of our favourite Britpop(ish) tracks that stand no chance in hell of appearing in this list...

The Longpigs 'On and On'

Suede 'Animal Nitrate'

Echobelly 'Dark Therapy'

Placebo 'Nancy Boy'

Placebo 'They Don't Care About Us'

Mansun 'Take It Easy Chicken'

Sleeper 'Inbetweener'

Elastica 'Connection'

Lush 'Ladykillers'

Republica 'Ready To Go'

The Boo Radleys 'Wake Up Boo!'

Divine Comedy 'Something For The Weekend'

Gene 'For The Dead'

McAlmont & Butler 'Yes'

Teenage Fanclub 'Sparky's Dream'

Sadly I don't have sales for all singles and teh person who gave them to me did so from seeing the raw data many years ago so if I haven't got them now I can't get them but i'll have a look for you at what I have- remind me at the end of the thread! :D

MIND READER!

I have always preferred Wide Open Space by Mansun. Dark Therapy though - such a tune! *runs to listen to On immediately*

Longpigs: On and On- I agree

Sleeper- Sale Of The Centrury & What Do I Do Now?

Echobelly: Great Things & King Of The Kurb

Gene: Olympian

Mansun: Wide Open Space

Geneva: Further

Suede: Beautiful ones & New Generation

Placebo: Every You & Every Me

Supergrass: Late In The Day

Blur: To The End & Chemical World

Would we count Garbage as Britpop? If so, I am going for the wonderful Stupid Girl.

I have always preferred "Drop Dead Gorgeous" to "Ready to Go".

Does Beautiful South count as britpop btw? Then I suppose "Perfect 10" could make the list?

"Good as Gold (Stupid as Mud)" and "Rotterdam" are some of my faves.

And "Wide Open Space", YESSS. Also "Taxloss"
