Posted October 17, 201113 yr It seems the 'x for Christmas #1' campaign is a yearly instalment now. This Facebook campaign is gaining support at a pretty rapid rate (it's been up for 6 days and already has 21,400 'likes') and, unlike last year where there were several campaigns, this one seems to be the only one with any significant support. It may be a bit early, but what do people think of this? Will you support it? Do you think it'll work? Link to Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/nirvanaforno1 As usual the proceeds are going to a charity. To keep it topical to this year's X Factor the chosen charity is Rhythmix. (Mods, feel free to close this if you feel it's too early or whatever, but I think this deserves a topic due to the rate at which it's gaining support already with 2 months to go until the Christmas chart week) Edited October 21, 201113 yr by Bré
October 17, 201113 yr It won't happen unless we get something monumentally dreary and objectionable as a winners' song. I shan't be supporting it either. The very concept of a chart campaign is ridiculous in itself - yes, haha, let's make a point about the X Factor controlling the charts by setting up a chart battle with it! How about SOD OFF and come up with something with merit.
October 17, 201113 yr Author It won't happen unless we get something monumentally dreary and objectionable as a winners' song. Well the winner's song this year is written by Gary Barlow, so it's likely to fit at least the 'dreary' part of that.
October 17, 201113 yr Well the winner's song this year is written by Gary Barlow, so it's likely to fit at least the 'dreary' part of that. I added the 'objectionable' clause as When We Collide was nothing BUT dreary, but at least it had a bit of 'credibility' in being by a 'cool' band originally rather than Miley Cyrus. Not that it made much difference to it given it was a sappy piece of crap either way, 'credible' band or not, but still.
October 17, 201113 yr It's not too early to raise the subject. If a campaign like this is to have any chance of success it needs to start around abut now to build up some momentum.
October 17, 201113 yr voted 'No' for both, firstly because I already own it :P I highly doubt we will ever see anything quite as revolutionary as the Rage campaign, that said, I think it could definitely be a challenger for number 2, it will be nice to see this get a new peak anyway
October 17, 201113 yr I can see this being #2 quite comfortably, last year there was already a huge clash between the John Cage and Trashmen campaigns which meant neither was ever going to succeed but the latter still made #3.
October 17, 201113 yr I think it may work. I hope so anyway. Travesty it never got higher than #7 first time around and is such an iconic song. I definitely feel it will have a lot of strength, especially as the 20th anniversary since its release.
October 18, 201113 yr I love the song but i dont want it to be the christmas number 1, i want a christmas song for number 1, a new song i heard of My favourite time of year by The Florin Street Band would make a lovely number 1, check the song out on you tube and see what you think.
October 18, 201113 yr It won't happen unless we get something monumentally dreary and objectionable as a winners' song. In other words, it's 100% certain to succeed, then? :w00t:
October 18, 201113 yr why don't they pick a Xmas song for the campaign.. I want a Xmas themed #1 like the good old days
October 18, 201113 yr These Anti X Factor Christmas Campaigns have now become very dull. It seems to be thought of as clever, to try to get someting that is not in the least 'Christmassy' to No.1, at Christmas. At least it would make more sense if it were an attempt to get Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas', to No.1. (Or, 'The Little Drummer Boy', by The Harry Simeone Chorale). But, it is all very silly, to try to get old Rock Songs to No.1, for Christmas. It is now just as boring as Simon Cowell's X Factor Ballads...... Edited October 18, 201113 yr by zeus555
October 18, 201113 yr I took part in the last successful one because my son liked the song and asked me to download it. To be honest though - although it worked it only served to increase the amount in Cowell's Coffers as although The Climb didn't get to number 1 in time for Christmas - I think its sales were actually greater than they had have been had it got to number 1 without a campaign against it. I certainly won't be buying the XF song (never have) but I won't be buying the Nirvana song either as I don't particularly like it. Kath
October 18, 201113 yr Whatever the various merits or flaws of the campaign the chances are high that Nirvana will be the better of the competing songs
October 18, 201113 yr why don't they pick a Xmas song for the campaign.. I want a Xmas themed #1 like the good old days Yeah I've always thought that, if X Factor are going for the Christmas No. 1, why not pick a Christmas song? I'd love for an actual Christmas song to be No. 1 at Christmas! When was the last time that even happened?
October 18, 201113 yr why don't they pick a Xmas song for the campaign.. I want a Xmas themed #1 like the good old days Apparently Joe Mcelderry is releasing Last Christmas on 19th .... How ironic would that be if the campaign got behind him for the xmas no1 after all RATM always said their campaign had nothing against Joe and now Simon has dropped him... sort of a double whammy!!!

Florin Street band is a great song and i too would like to see this at xmas number 1 or a number of other classics re-released to give it a great xmas feel. Also, on another note Xmas day falls on Sunday this year so no doubt the chart will be aired on boxing day so it would be great if a xmas song could claim it :) Edited October 18, 201113 yr by CJDADJ

How ironic would that be if the campaign got behind him for the xmas no1 after all RATM always said their campaign had nothing against Joe and now Simon has dropped him... sort of a double whammy!!! :D In all honesty i don't think there is an act on this years show that has the voice and the range that Joe does and would be a slap in the face of Cowell if he was to succeed. I think there should be a campaign, i for one would support it as there would be nothing better then to see mr arrogant beaten
October 18, 201113 yr I will not be supporting the campaign for 2 reasons: 1) I have no problem with the X Factor winner being Christmas #1 and if that's the song most people have bought SO WHAT. and 2) Smells Like Tean Spirit is awful. I don't think it will work either, 2009 was a one off, but as last year proved it's very hard to mobilise such a thing more than once. It's funny to watch so many people threatened by a bland pop song from a TV show though.
October 18, 201113 yr A wasted opportunity not to finally get Fairytale Of New York to Christmas Number One. Now THAT would make sense!!!!
