I would argue that Revolver should be dumped for The Velvet Underground & Nico

This.

Surely 'Kid A' instead of 'Funeral'? Although I do prefer the latter.

Surely a Bowie album should be in contention for best 70s album, something like Low, Ziggy or Hunky Dory trounces Dark Side Of The Moon for me.
00s - Arcade Fire - Funeral

90s - Radiohead - OK Computer

80s - The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

70s - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

60s - The Beatles - Revolver

These are not my choices. I posit that these could all be considered the most critically acclaimed albums of each decade. Which would you dispute? Which would you not? Which have you not heard in full?

Dark Side of the Moon was possibly one of my husband's favourite albums (although if it was a fight between this and Wishbone Ash's Argus - Argus would win hands down). However - we listened to it recently on a long car journey and he said 'well that was a pile of crap'. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as that (Money remains one of my favourite tracks ever - on any album) the rest of it is a bit pants. Personlly my favourite album from the 70's would be ELO's A New World Record.

I would most definitely agree with Revolver for the 60's though.

"Kid A" isn't (or if it is, then barely) Radiohead's definitive album, so I'd find it hard to argue for it. For the same reason I'd almost instantly assume that "The Suburbs" won't be going on this list in 2020.

I love Queen is Dead... But I really don't think it's a better album than THe Dreaming or Hounds of Love....

I would place it between those two but there may come a time when I would put The Dreaming above it.

Kid A is horrendously over rated.

Never rated The Queen is Dead particularly, but I'm not even going to try to come up with an alternative to it! (certainly not T** S**** R**** which is good but vastly overrated and is probably on the tip of many tongues)

80s albums I prefer to The Queen is Dead are The Cure - Disintegration and New Order - Lowlife along with the previously mentioned Hounds of Love.

There's a good few 90s album that effected me more than OK Computer - Suede's Dog Man Star was a lot more seductive and thrilling. The Holy Bible stuns me a lot more than OKC ever did.

I find Radiohead to be massively overrated, being honest...

60s - The Beatles - Revolver

Would definitely substitute 'Revolver' for 'Sgt. Pepper's', or heck, even Hendrix's 'Are You Experienced?'

Since everyone posting their favourite/best albums of the decades as opposed to the most acclaimed, these are my favourites (at least of the ones with some acclaim)

60s - Velvet Underground & Nico

70s - Pink Floyd - The Wall

80s - Kate Bush - The Dreaming

90s - Manics - The Holy Bible

00s - Arcade Fire - Funeral

60s - Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis (I dont like much 60s music)

70s - Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

80s - Kate Bush - The Hounds of Love

90s - Manics - The Holy Bible

00s - Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

back to Kid A - if you take away tracks 1 and 2 and Idiotheque it's not at all electronic. It's always been overstated that it was an electronic album. It's an album of vaguely interesting songs most of which dont engage me at all. Motion Picture Soundtrack is the only tracks worthy of a best of.

My favourites, can't go back to the 60s as I've not heard any albums in full from that decade.

1970s: The Clash "London Calling"

1980s: The Stone Roses "The Stone Roses"

1990s: Pulp "Different Class"

2000s: Bloc Party "Silent Alarm"

and as for best songs.

1970s: David Bowie "Heroes"

1980s: New Order "Blue Monday"

1990s: Depeche Mode "Enjoy The Silence"

2000s: Doves "There Goes The Fear"

which reminds me.. I need to get a setlist sorted for my Christmas party DJ set. :D

Hmmm, no Loveless as one of the most feted albums of the 90s. Nor in fact Screamadelica.
Interestingly I have both the 1001 Albums and 1001 Songs "To Hear Before You Die" books. Not got round to all the albums yet (that would take years) but almost finished Spotifying all 1001 songs and comfortably the most thrilling of the '00s is "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor". Its parent album would come very high up on any best-of list for me.

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor will wear thin. I actually never liked it as when it came out I was far more impressed with Test Icicles - Circle. Square. Triangle which leaves Arctic Monkeys looked one dimensional.

I'd have chosen Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me as the ultimate 80s Cure album.... but also, The Head on the Door is a FANTASTIC pop album.... and I think The Cure always work best when they're being deleriously poppy (for instance, I think Let's Go To Bed is their best ever single).

Talking of The Cure... have you seen the new box set released just before Christmas? The first 5 albums, bar Japanese Whispers and Live, packaged in gorgeous Japanese-style mini-LP sleeves in a box... an absolute bargain at £15.
