I can't stand 1D, I hated their debut but it comes off as Wuthering Heights (the Kate Bush song ftr, ie epicly amazing) in comparison to the latest pile of dirge they're passing off as a 'song'. The Collective are awful too but it's the lesser of two evils...

The Collective's song is a total disaster - the whole thing just sounds so messy and the rapping parts just don't fit with the song, it would be a shame to have that as a number 1, especially when the original didn't even peak single digits :( OneD's song is bearable enough, extremely formulaic though

Like Bré posted, in an ideal world Rihanna would be #1 next week rather than One Direction or The Collective.

The reason why I think 'Got To Be You' will be no. 1 is because:

1. It's One Direction

2. The video only got released last weekend?

3. The single hasn't been held back for 8 weeks

So as it's still relatively fresh I can see more of their fans downloading the song. Wouldn't be at all surprised if 1D have another 100k first week seller. The Collective will no doubt sell well but for some reason I just don't see it going to no. 1 or having really big first week sales (for a charity single of its ilk).

One Direction > 100k+

The Collective > 90-99k

We shall see next week what happens.

I was wondering what that was, expect that to be top 10 in a few weeks then

This has got to be the most ballad heavy year chartwise since the late 90s, I'm not complaining it's just a shame that most of them are covers. Only a couple of the big ballad hits have been original - Someone Like You and Jar of Hearts. The A Team I guess if you regard it as a ballad, which it's not in the traditional sense.
Oh wow, haven't checked the iTunes chart for a few days - Save Tonight almost top 50, how unexpectedly amazing! I know it's 59p but it's definitely not a song I'd have expected to benefit so much from a price cut!
I hope My Heart Take Over does well next week, it's an amazing ballad!
I remember someone saying that last year we had a top 5 full of ballads on week around X Factor time (paving the way for Adele's success this year evidently ). I haven't checked for myself, so I don't know if it's true, but if it is, I wonder if we could beat that this year! :o Ceratinly possible I think. Although probably not, since we won't all agree on which songs are ballads, and which aren't.
Paparazzi, Born This Way and Telephone are all being performed tonight on X factor.

29. Lady Gaga - Edge Of Glory

34. Nicki Minaj - Superbass

36. Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger

Super Bass was #39 last week so that wouldn't be a re-entry.

Someone posted in the release sched thread that Little Boots is releasing her new single tomorrow (or rather, at midnight)? If so, OH DEAR because she is on the first train to mega flopsville (not that she wasn't there anyway really :P).

The X Factor update:

186. Born This Way - Lady GaGa [Misha]

196. Telephone - Lady GaGa & Beyoncé [Little Mix]

205. Paparazzi - Lady GaGa [Craig]

273. Don't Stop Me Now (Remastered) - Queen [Kitty]

516. Born This Way - Lady GaGa [Misha]

851. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen [Kitty]

877. Somebody to Love (Remastered) - Queen [Janet]

982. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen [Kitty]

1006. Another One Bites the Dust (Remastered) - Queen [Marcus]

Just did a bit of research - Little Boots is indeed releasing a single tomorrow. It's entitled 'Shake' - supposedly the lead single from an upcoming EP/Mixtape. To me, it's like Calvin Harris' release of 'Awooga', it's merely to gather a bit of hype for the official first single.

In theory, R1 should give it some airplay - especially as Little Boots was crowned 'Sound of 2009'. Hopefully it won't 'flop' as much as people are expecting/hoping - a T100 debut should be at least possible.

Maroon 5 up to #7 now?! :drama: Maybe they'll get another week top 10 after all.

I think there are enough big new releases to ensure they don't. (I fucking hope so anyway :drama:)

I think there are enough big new releases to ensure they don't. (I fucking hope so anyway :drama:)

Depends:

1) The Collective, One Direction + The Saturdays are all sure-fire T10 debuts (pushing down M5 to #10)

2) Flo Rida debuts inside the T10 (pushing M5 down to #11)

3) Rihanna releasing 'You Da One' and possibly climbing into the T10 (pushing M5 down to #12)

4) Westlife surprising everyone and debuting inside the T10 (pushing M5 down to #13)

5) Lady Gaga's X Factor performance sending into into the T10 (pushing M5 down to #14)

6) Potential climbers/multiple versions from Professor Green, Charlene Soraia + LMFAO

^ If Maroon 5 can survive all this, I'd have a heart attack. In my opinion, I reckon it'll fall to #12 - The Collective, One Direction, The Saturdays, Rihanna and Professor Green holding on to a T10 placing will cause it.
