Posted November 6, 201113 yr Commentary available from the front page and the latest news box as usual. Next week's will probably be a little late as I shall be in Berlin (to see Elbow on Thursday).
November 6, 201113 yr I would hazard a guess that if you heard the actual Pitbull version of Danza Kuduro you wouldn't be praising it so much :P The version getting airplay is the original version with no Pitbull in sight (and I have no idea who Qwote is or what he does on the song). And it was actually a group of wannabes, rather than just one, that sang E.T. :D Manic Street Preachers' 'This Is The Day' wasn't on Postcards, it was a new song (well, a cover) recorded for National Treasures. I'm surprised SMiLE didn't do that well, considering the history behind it - perhaps there are just not many fans of The Beach Boys in the UK! Edited November 6, 201113 yr by Bré
November 6, 201113 yr As Moves Like Jagger is on its 12th Top 5 Week in a row, I decided to check how many non-No.1's have spent that long, (or longer), in the Top 5. With consecutive Top 5 Weeks, I mean. There have been a few other non No.1's that have spent 12, or more Weeks, in the Top 5, but they were not consecutive. Such as this one:, The Happy Wanderer - Obernkirchen Children's Choir (1954) This spent 15 Weeks in the Top 5, but, they were split into 8 & 7 weeks, due to a No.6 Position. 5-3-2-2-2-2-2-4-6-3-4-5-4-4-4-5 Since November 1952 there have only been 4 Singles that achieved it in consecutive Weeks. The first 3 were all in the 1950's, & Moves Like Jagger is the first non-No.1 to achieve it since 1957! By an odd coincidence, last Week, The A Team, (Ed Sheeran), also became the first non-No.1 Hit, since 1957, to achieve something. That became only the 4th non-No.1 Hit, to enter the Charts in the Top 20, & to manage 20, (or more), consecutive Top 20 Weeks. The A Team's 20th Week, was at No.20. By an even bigger coincidence, Moves Like Jagger, & The A Team, are not only the only non-No.1's, since 1957, to achieve their Chart Feats, but the same 1957 Hit, was the last time those feats were managed! (Love Letters In The Sand - Pat Boone. It entered at No.18, & spent 21 consecutive Weeks in the Top 20. It also spent 12 consecutive Weeks in the Top 5). THE ONLY 4 NUMBER 2 HITS TO MANAGE 12 (OR MORE) CONSECUTIVE TOP 5 WEEKS @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 1) HARRY'S THEME (FROM LIMELIGHT) - FRANK CHACKSFIELD (1953) 3-2-2-5-4-2-2-2-3-2-2-3-5-2-3-3-5-5-5-5-5 (21 consecutive Top 5 Weeks) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 2) COOL WATER - FRANKIE LAINE (WITH THE MELLOWMEN) (1955) 4-2-2-2-3-3-3-3-4-2-3-2 (12 consecutive Top 5 Weeks) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 3) LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND - PAT BOONE (1957) 5-2-2-2-2-3-2-2-3-2-4-5 (12 consecutive Top 5 Weeks) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 4) MOVES LIKE JAGGER - MAROON 5 FEAT. November 6, 201113 yr Author Thanks for the extra information zeuss. I was hoping you'd be able to clarify whether Maroon 5 had broken any records :D

My expectations were so low it would have been almost impossible to meet them  You're right about the Manics song. Yes, I would have expected Smile to do better although the Beach Boys have never really been massive here.

November 6, 201113 yr "Feel the Steel" by Steel Panther spent a week in the top 75 when it was released, although "Balls Out" is their first top 40 album. I've always had a soft spot for Def Leppard-esque hair metal, so I quite 'enjoy' Steel Panther.

If Wiki do give a position then I check it as they have been known to give an act a rather better chart history than they have actually achieved
