So it seems I'm in the minority and actually really enjoyed this. However, it does seem to be "typical Ryan Murphy" right off the bat (we don't usually get to that point until about 3 episodes in) so I'm not sure how much longer I'll enjoy it. But the first episode was promising to me. I enjoyed that episode much more than any of last seasons episodes so...

Oh and are we to presume Max will be in another episode somewhere down the line?

I enjoyed it too. It looked gorgeous and Gaga was fine. Some of the characters have potential too. We'll see how it goes.
It was...OK, but just a tad TOO explicit (and dragged out, it could've been at least ten minutes shorter) and the characters were generally good, but it didn't feel very...inspired idk? I may stick with this but it's not really convincing me this hasn't past it's best yet.

I agree with this entirely. I'm sure it'll all be ruined within episodes but I found the opening quite strong, with a perfect amount of intrigue and a good, interesting concept. I just found it to be far more focused than the previous season's opening.

I really like Wes Bentley and Chloe Sevigny's characters because they add some needed normality to the show. It's something the previous season needed because makes the contrast of all the other chaotic goings on around them all the more scary. Wes' character reminds me of the male counterpart to Lana Del Winters in season 2, who worked so well.

I like that we'll be seeing various guests coming and going at the hotel and look forward to episode 2.

Jesus Christ what a poor opener.... No better than any of season 4, it seems to be shock and style over substance.
I watched this a couple of days ago, idk how I feel about it, It's interesting to say the least but it did seem a bit all over the place. It seems like it's going to take a while to get going, I'm not sure I like the concept yet but they do have a good opportunity to bring in a lot of unique characters so I'm hoping they do that and keep the plot line to something minimal yet exciting and don't have a million random things going on at once  Murder House was quite slow to get into but ended up being a good season so I'm hoping this will be the same. I'd much rather have Jessica back than Gaga, AHS just isn't the same without her  Sarah's character seems like the best so far tbh ^_^

I enjoyed it, much much more than Freak Show (which I gave up on after ep2). Gaga was pretty wooden but it almost suits her character. It definitely feels like it's going to be interesting again this season, which is all it needs to be. I agree with it being too long, but I'm not actually sure what they could have cut out as nothing felt overly long in itself.

I found it a tad off how it drifted into being Hannibal at various points early on though, I half expected the main guy to whip the mental metronome out.

This is the first episode of AHS i've watched and I think it was the perfect first episode for me to get into; loved the Kubrick/Shining references and Gaga was brilliant - huge surprise because her + acting doesn't usually impress. I will go back and check out the earlier seasons too, think I can get into this.

I have nothing to compare it too, but as a standalone season premiere, I enjoyed it.

I'm actually really liking this! Agreed that Evan Peters was the highlight though. The only criticism I have is that it's over an hour long... why? Weren't all the other seasons 45mins (give or take)?
The second episode was better than the first so I am holding onto hope for this season.

I actually thought the first episode was overly criticised as I found it was good in setting the tone for the season. Surprised the second episode is being more lauded as I felt it was lazier and more patronising than the first. Only redeeming quality was the amazing Evan Peters. What. An. Actor.

I don't get the criticism for this?! I find it really intriguing and genuinely creepy. So far it reminds me of Asylum in the sense of how dark and creepy it is.

Agreed on both counts, the season is off to a great start - reminds me of Asylum too, which is always a good thing. Though the second episode was a slight step down, it was still intriguing.

Gaga's scene where she talks about heartbreaks was so good. I am actually shocked how decent she is. For that character she is doing a great job.

Loving this as well. The first scene with Swedish girls set the tone so well and I loved seeing characters introduced one by one in the first two episodes. Only Angela left now I guess.

I'm not sure but there is gonns be something wrong with Chloe Sevigny's character. She's an amazing actress and I caught glimpses of something weird which was strange. Its probably just in my head tho oops

Sarah's "kids are the best" and the creepy housekeeper in general are so far the highlights of the season.

I want all of the dark haired men in this bitch to have an orgy some time in the next few episodes please and thanks. Matt bomer is godly.

This is so f***ing good.

Gaga is actually capable of acting and in surprised that she's one of the main characters! The second episode was much better than the opening episode and I hope this can match season 1 and 2 with the latter still being the best!

I'm thinking this too. It's way too safe of a character for her to play. I'm wondering if she'll be turned into a Vampire, too.

I assumed that the first episode was just a longer special, but I swear the second was even longer

Wonder if they will all be this length
