Yeah, I am kinda hopeless at keeping up with what is happening in the outer fringes of popular music. I think the furthest I got was Active Child and James Blake, plus whatever I heard in Unknown Pleasures 6 and 7.

My biggest discovery this year was Burial. Eteched Headplate is my most played track on my mp3 player. Stunning.

The Weeknd is my artist of the year. And I think this obsession will last for at least 6 more months.

The Weeknd definitely also my new artist of the year, thought the Bon Iver album was quite great too. Other than that my biggest discovery was probably The Antlers, I did however find their 2011 release slightly boring, whereas I absolutely love Hospice. Overall however, I've either become worse at discovering good music, or there have just been fewer good releases than usual.

As much as I'd love to suggest something I don't think you've ever liked any of my UP entries so I'm probably not best placed to do so.

Anyone who doesn't get excited about Rubik's album "Solar" must be deaf.. Laws of Gravity was one of my UP flops.

 

At the moment my favourite song of the year is probably Duran Duran's "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" which features Kelis.

 

My favourite album seems to be Lady Gaga's Born This Way.

Rubrik's is a great release. Laws Of Gravity was one of my favorites in a great UP-version. Can't remember how many points it recieved from me though.

 

Still enjoying 'Future Island - On The Water'. With 'Balance' as the highlight. Absolutly amazing song.

 

'Tom Vek - Leisure Seizure'. 'On A Plate' is my favorite among many great songs.

 

'Kasabian - Velociraptor' . 'Acid Turkish Bath', I Hear Voices and Man Of Simple Pleasures are highlights

 

'Other Lives - Tamer Animals'. I entered 'Tamer Animals' in UP with great response and though it is the best song on the album it's overall very good.

 

'Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo' is my absolute favorite of the year. Amazing from end to end.

 

'The Strokes - Angles', 'Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues', 'Wild Beasts - Smother' are also brilliant releases in a brilliant year of music.

Eh, I don't think this year's been too amazing for music, except for the last month or so where it's returned to 2009 / 2010 levels. I've been listening to far more music from outside of 2011 this year, so this list is a tad sparse:

Just listening to Antlers now. It's very good.

Antlers are great... but you must listen to 'Hospice' if you haven't already. The album (while not from 2011) is a beautiful tale of coming to terms with a loved one having cancer and the story beyond...

I really should have kept my mouth shut and entered them into UP8.
