Gotye WAS ROBBED, the problem was it clicks on about the fifth listen and it suddenly becomes amazing! (It only clicked for me about a week ago )

Just as well then. It's been around for 5 months and so by the time it gets released in the UK, it'll explode at #1 selling 150k because by February, it will have grown on everybody. Gotye to be added to Radio 1 C-list first week of January 2012 please. :D

And while were on the subject, Katie Cole was robbed aswell!

Yes to all of this, especially the Katie bit. By the way, she has a new free (and legal) EP here: http://katiecole.bandcamp.com/album/melodiem

Get it now, it's brilliant - Long Road, Lucky One and Get Me Outta Here especially!

I gave Gotye 4 points in the final but it continues to grow on me even now, and I'd already heard it about 10 times up to that point - some songs take literally months to click with me and then I become obsessed with them  Oh well, that was 4 points more than most people gave it!

I gave it my full 12, thank you :P It did help that I saw my cousins from Australia duting the contest, and they noticed me listening to it on the iPod, so I put it on out loud and we were dancing round the room with their kids. Both a great song, and a cherished family memory :kink:
I will be posting the average odds soon, so if anyone wants to post theirs (or post an update) and be included in the average odds - please post them ASAP :)

It gives a whole new meaning to "Party Rock Anthem". I know Pavel gave the song 12 points too. If only there was a Hi-NRG Club Mix I could've sent instead. :(

You mean something like this?

(Yes that's more classy nu-disco/house. But nice, no?)

I've never quite understood what happened in BJSC XXXVII, as in how we had such an invasion of fempop songs at the top of the scoreboard. Not that they were necessarily BAD, (I think I gave Jessica Mauboy about 6 points) just that I alwys thought that the indie vote was strong enough to prevent that happening.

'Indie' voters don't vote for the same songs (which is needed to boost someone at least to the top half), y'know.

I don't know if you were obsessed, but you experienced the same thing when I sent Ambitions, right? :P - if I remember correctly you didn't give it any points back in the BJSC XIX final :kink: And when TBO came I don't think you gave it that much either, or anything at all - then later (when it was too late!), you suddenly loved it!

This. Plus, the phenomenon of 'indie voters' is greatly exaggerated. You have Isconia, Eledan, Utopia, Fljótavík, Espen, Kylienips, and Skall who could be said to have a strong inclination towards 'indie' - that's seven voters out of 40, and take away Skall and Utopia who are irregular participants and you have five voters out of 40 - an eighth of voters aren't really going to be able to influence the result or the winner that much, given the winner rarely gets much more than half of the voters voting for them.

Ambitions took ages to grow on me indeed, many many months. It wasn't until January 2010 when it finally clicked, a month after TBO!

You only have to look at my personal chart to see that it's not exclusive to BJSC though, two of my favourite songs of the year - The A Team and Moves Like Jagger, debuted at #67 and #64 respectively and both took about three months to reach #1, and We Found Love finally went to #1 last week  I rarely get straight into songs, but usually the ones that take longest to grow are the ones that I end up loving the most in the long run strangely...

Tirren, you forgot Mdice but I don't think it matters this much as indeed 'indie vote' isn't really such a great power everyone seems to be talking about.

I have averaged out everyone odds to one decimal place, so where countries have the same odds, the higher country will actually be more favoured than the other :)

Also, I have included each country's highest and lowest odds so we can judge which countries are the most consistent or inconsistent!

So, here are BJSC's average odds for tonight's final in Hendinia!

01. 4/1 Numayania (3/1 - 9/1)

02. 4/1 Greenfroze (3/1 - 7/1)

03. 6/1 UnoShake (3/1 - 8/1)

04. 6/1 Ojnoj (3/1 - 9/1)

06. 8/1 Eledan (4/1 - 12/1)

07. 9/1 FSR Rontvia (7/2 - 17/1)

08. 10/1 Skall (5/1 - 15/1)

09. 10/1 Allecian (6/1 - 14/1)

10. 10/1 FYR Vojvodina-on-the-Wold (5/1 - 20/1)

11. 14/1 Kopecka (11/1 - 16/1)

12. 16/1 Batidas (8/1 - 46/1)

13. 17/1 Farahtyn (7/1 - 33/1)

14. 20/1 Seyetana (11/1 - 45/1)

20. 25/1 Ramrynia (15/1 - 35/1)

21. 26/1 Daehun (16/1 - 37/1)

22. 29/1 Tinnmark (10/1 - 50/1)

23. 30/1 Isconia (18/1 - 40/1)

24. 31/1 Ashton (9/1 - 100/1)

25. 35/1 Kluminican Republic (15/1 - 60/1)

26. 39/1 ChrIseland (30/1 - 50/1)

27. 45/1 Espen (28/1 - 60/1)

28. 47/1 Budtar (25/1 - 105/1)

29. 51/1 Persephonia (30/1 - 115/1)

The big indie hits in BJSC had crossover appeal to some of the pop voters as well or fully won over some or all of the mixed bag countries (the likes of myself, Kopecka, Numayania, Greenfroze, Batidas etc... that tend to regularly give big points to either pop or indie entries).

Perhaps unless you've got either an amazingly strong pop song or an incredible indie song, which will sweep to victory with only 50% of voters giving it high points, the key to success in BJSC is getting the influential middle ground on side :o

If 50% of voters give something high points then you end up with a The Last Time style victory

Video Games attracted almost 50% of voters and pretty much exclusively high points, which is the example I was thinking of. By 'high points', really I mean anything between 6 and 12 as opposed to 20 sets of 12 points and nothing else

The Last Time got votes from about 75% of voters iirc, again mostly high points but obviously a few smaller ones as well...I'd never seen a winner voted for by that proportion of participants before though :o

I'd be happy with 17th for Yadi if it plays out like the average. I normally just hope that someone really likes my entry but I can see that she wouldn't necessarily appeal to the majority here.

Out of the top 3 I would like to see UnoShake or Numayania win. As much as I love Greenfroze as a country, I really don't care for the song sent this month I'm afraid. Elëdan have to stand a chance for me, the structure is unusual enough to appeal to the indie voters while the vocal is quite Sarah McLachlan who I believe tends to appeal to pop fans?

I would be happy with 21st place as well, as it's better than the previous contest :D
