I'm a "young kid" (16) and know the Chris Rea song... Saying that people of a certain age don't know it is ridiculous; just because it doesn't appear in the Official Top 100 every year like other songs doesn't mean it's not as well known

I'm 14 and know the Chris Rea track - I'd say most of my friends do too, it's a really well known track!

Okay sorry for my presumption, I was thinking of the reaction to older hits being played on X-Factor, but back to the point the ad will give Driving home for Christmas added impetus this holiday season!

It does appear in the official top 100 every year :kink: Just saying.

I've known about the Chris Rea song for years as well as it's on my mum's Christmas playlist which she puts on every Christmas.

So does anyone think the Iceland ad will give it more impetus this year or are people not bothered, or god forbid are people waiting for the Stacey version on the 18th?
I've known the Chris Rea track as far back as I remember, it's on a collection of Christmas songs called "The Best Christmas Album In The World... Ever!" :P
I really think there's no point in odds being offered for anything except the XF winner and Nirvana. It'll be one of the two and nothing else stands the slightest chance.

I don't think Nirvana will make the Top 5 in the end. The biggest challenger to the X-Factor winner will be the Military Wives Choir.

Military Wives Choir?

Military Wives Choir?

Gareth Malone?

Along with Professor Brian Cox, one of the few people making intelligent, entertaining TV programmes these days.

I'd be OK with Gaga or Nirvana. I'm not a great fan of projects like the Military Wives Choir. Why couldn't they plop it out for rememberance day?

Ive never heard much about the military wives choir though maybe its because i live in Ireland. Would like to see Gaga with a video for whitge christmas, though i doubt she will bother!
how have enough people actually bet on Ellie Goulding for her to have odds of 100/1? She hasnt leaked anything new for a year, and as 700,000 already have Your Song, I doubt that will even go top 200.

Because they hadn't actually performed the song properly until the Saturday at the National Festival of Rembrance

I would quite like to see gaga go to #1. I've grown to like her since I saw her at R1BW, when she sang EOG. I dont like any of her songs except for the acoustic EOG and U&I, but she is a genuinley nice person and has a fantastic voice.
Is there a Killers single this year?

Finally we have some news on this years Christmas Single for (RED). The single will be called The Cowboy’s Christmas Ball and as well as being available exclusively on iTunes as a download, it will also be part of a 6 track EP featuring all of The Killers’ Christmas singles to date. As usual all profits will go to the charity (RED) and the single will be released on 1st December to coincide with World Aids Day.

There will be a video to go with the song which will involve our boys dressed as cowboys and reportedly some robots as well!

From Music Week

A choir of military wives and girlfriend is now favourite to top the Christmas singles chart according to Ladbrokes, edging out the X Factor hopefuls.

The Military Wives Choir, who starred on BBC series The Choir, have recorded a single, Wherever You Are, for charity. Decca will release the song on December 19 and Ladbrokes has it at 13/8 to debut at the top of the Christmas chart.

Behind them are X Factor favourites Marcus Collins and Little Mix, both at 9/2, and Nirvana at 6/1, thanks to an internet campaign to get the band’s classic Smells Like Teen Spirit to the top of the Christmas chart, much like Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In the Name two years ago.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said, "We usually go into December with The X Factor dominating Christmas Number One betting. It's all change now and we expect the Military Wives Choir to soon be odds-on."

In the betting for the Christmas album number one, Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, currently at three in the charts, is closing in on posthumous Amy Winehouse album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures.

Bublé is at 6/4, just behind Winehouse at 5/4. Behind them are albums from Rihanna, Susan Boyle and JLS.

"Michael Bublé is picking up the pace in the bid to get the number one album and it looks like he'll be the favourite throughout December,” said Donohue.

Note that odds are given for named X Factor contestants rather than "the X Factor winner". Therefore, their odds will be affected by the fact that they have to win the competition first just to get their single released. Anyone betting on a named contestant is effectively betting on two things happening.
