Jump was released as the forth single from Madonna's Confessions On A Dance Floor album digitally released as a single late October 2006 with a physical release in early November 2006. It was written by Madonna, Stuart Price & Madonna's brother in law Joe Herny. Originally planned to be the third single from Confessions but Warner Bros' change their minds due to the fact Get Together was the third best selling digital song of the album. The song is about motivation and self-empowerment, some people see it as a sequel to Keep It Together. Some reviews said it wouldn't of sounded out of place on the Erotica album and a lot of people say it's similar to the Pet Shop Boy's sound of "West End Girls".

Jump topped the Italian singles chart (the third Confessions song to do so, only Get Together made #2), #1 in Hungary, The US Hot 100 sales chart and Jump became her 37th #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Music Video

While on a day off touring on the Confessions Tour in Japan Madonna shot the video in 2 days. While wearing a blonde platinum wig (she also wore the wig the last two nights of the Confessions Tour and the media kept thinking she had got her hair cut). The video featured the physical discipline parkour, where artist Sebastian Foucan performed the routines around the buildings of Tokyo.

The video begins showing the skyline of Tokyo and the parkour artists standing on rooftops. As the spoken introduction starts, Madonna is shown in her bob wig dancing in front of a number of neon signs. The signs contain the words Madonna and Jump written in Japanese. The song continues with the dancers jumping from the buildings and running through the lanes of the city. Madonna dances to the music and swivels around a metallic rod placed in front of her. Before the final chorus, the dancers cease their parkour routines and stand on a lamppost. As the chorus starts, Foucan is joined by parkour traceur Levi Meeuwenberg and Exo as they continue their routine around the buildings. The video ends with Madonna stretching her arm and a shot of the Tokyo evening-sky.

Live Performances

The song was included on the Confessions Tour before she sang it she would sit down as say "Ladies and Gentleman! Thank you for coming to our show" then say something different each show. Madonna performed the song and the dancers did the parkour routine with loads of steel rods then Madonna joined in towards the end. Jump was sampled on The Sticky & Sweet Tour for Madonna's Into The Groove performance.

Love this song! In my Top 5 Madonna Songs of the 00's! 3rd favourite on Confessions. I would have loved it to be on Celebration, but it flopped in US (#105), and only spent a week Top 10 in the UK, and then plummetted. Looking at Wikipedia, it did reach Top 10 in quite a few countries, but I don't know how the rest of the chart run went without searching
I absolutely love Jump, it'd be in my Madge top 10
I first heard this in The Devil Wears Prada  Its one of my fave tunes by Madge.

It's a fab song! When ever I feel down I play this and it lifts me up (corny I know). I wish it was on the Celebration album. It really annoys me that Jump was #1 on the sales chart in the US and only make #105 on the overall chart.

The same could be said for Die Another Day spent 11 weeks at #1 on the sales chart and only peaked at #8 there.

The video was a bit of a let down it seemed a rushed job.

It really annoys me that Jump was #1 on the sales chart in the US and only make #105 on the overall chart.

Can I just ask...is the US Sales Chart what the chart would look like if it was based only on sales, and the Billboard 200 is sales, airplay etc combined?

The Hot Singles Sales chart that Jump topped is for physical sales only, it does count towards the Hot 100 (main chart) but obviously as physicals don't sell much it didn't help Jump much :(

The US chart system is soo f'd up. (Not because of Madonna's decline on it since 2003 quite a few of my favourite acts don't do well on it due to the airplay fact).
I definitely agree, often it gets to the point where a song is number 1 on iTunes pretty much all week but because it doesn't have enough airplay, it may only debut at like number 9, even though it's sold more than everything above it :/

Best song on Confessions, love it!

I wanted it to be the third single at the time, but it worked out alright in the end. Video could be better, but it's not bad.

really dont like the video but love the song and its performance on confessions tour was great!!

bring this to next years tour!!!

Love her look in the video but I agree with vibe, the video itself is a bit blah. The song however is bliss, it's got a sexy swaying beat and everytime she sings "just take my hand" I do!

I think this would have done better than Get Together as the third single but I love both songs and think the single choices were almost spot on. For a long while this was probably my #2 Madonna song. Recently it might have been usurped by a couple of others but it's still one of the best songs of the 00s. That bassline is absolutely undeniable and the lyrics are camp and kitsch. Glorious song.

This is was my favourite song from Confessions when it first came out and I couldn't wait for it to be released as a single. The video turned out to be the most disappointing turd I've ever seen! But it was amazing on tour.
