06 Lolita

08 Lucky Ones

This is my initial rating, although I can see some improving with time, like Radio. At first it was quite unassuming, but today it came on shuffle in my car and it just clicked as awesome.

I think the reason people might be a bit underwhelmed by this album is because, like me, they are listening to it as half an album because they already had quite a few of the songs, and they happen to be the best ones. Now the songs are all getting their own identity after a few listens and I can see how good they are.

My main criticism of this album is that it's all quite one note. The songs are all similar tempo, structure and mood. National Anthem and This Is What Makes Us Girls seem to have been brought in line with the other songs on the album, but I think the originals would have been better because they would've added some variation.

Lolita is currently my fave I think. I like hearing Lana not being depressed. Not that depressed Lana doesn't make wonderful songs! Currently I love every song on the album. Even Million Dollar Man which I hated at first grew on me.
Nothing really jumps out at me on the album and the album version of National Album remains dull as. Gonna stick to the demo and the singles I think.

09.5 Born To Die

10 Off To The Races

10 Blue Jeans

10 Video Games

09 Diet Mtn Dew

10 National Anthem (I thought I'd be disappointed but I REALLY love this version! Not quite as much as the incredible demo but still)

08 Dark Paradise

07.5 Radio

08.5 Carmen

06.5 Million Dollar Man

08 Summertime Sadness

08.5 This Is What Makes Us Girls

07 Without You

09.5 Lolita

07 Lucky Ones

As I said, incredible album. Far too early to say this I know but it's easily going to be one of the best of the year I think.

I really love Miss America. I wish it was on the album, it's stunning!

LanaDelRey: "No idea how u got this song."

Brandan: "You gave it to me in 2008 :) Years ago I was in love with it but could not find a copy so I asked you directly and you sent it to me via email under the title "Miss America". Now as the years went by, did you change the name of this song?"

LanaDelRey: "God. I forgot that. I don't know if i changed the name- i think i called it Trash Magic in my notebook, but also miss america. i was staying at the sunset motel in new jersey off and on every other couple of weeks. i decorated it with tinsel from the duane reade up the street and wrote this song.. it still makes me happy."

Ha! :D

The entire album is basically one song stretched out for an hour.

Too samey?

Would someone be able to PM me the National Anthem demo? I can't find it anywhere!

I haven't heard this album in full but I have heard most songs. They do sound samey although I didn't initially like Video Games and now I love it!

I'll need to hear the album throughout the weekend, it better not disappoint me! :D

I was going to download this because (as I have said before) I think she has potential. I don't think I'll bother now after reading this comment. Maybe give it a listen when it's on spotify or something. But I'm not going to rush and listen/download it.

This is guff of the highest order. If you like the singles then sure you know what to expect, but if you like the singles then I can see no reason why you wouldn't like the album.

I thought this too but I like it nonetheless. Dark Paradise is easily one of my favourites.

It's true though. The exact same sounds are recycled all over the place and it's all a bit flat throughout. Born To Die and Video Games were certainly quite different but that's about as far as it goes unfortunately.

I agree.

Well I won't deny it sounds a bit samey in places, because it does, but if you like the singles then you're going to like the album.

but if you like the singles then you're going to like the album.

You see, this is not always true. The samey-ness can detract from the whole thing because your ears/brain gets fatigued with the spirit crushing inevitability of each song sounding the same. It can get frustrating.

Not as buzzed about it after reading all that, but my deluxe copy has been shipped :D
I have to say based on my 4 listens to the album that it quite a let down, there's nothing approaching 'Born To Die' or even 'Video Games' levels of good. That's not to say it's BAD (both of those are fantastic), it's just not quite as tight, melodic and interesting as I was hoping for.
