June 19, 201213 yr Spain are just frustrating to watch. Pass pass pass pass pass I actually think we'd be better suited to playing them if we get through than Italy
June 19, 201213 yr Boo at Spain going through. Had Croatia equalised would it have gone to penalties? Italy would've gone out.
June 19, 201213 yr Author Italy would've gone out. On what basis, overall goal difference/goals scored?
June 19, 201213 yr On what basis, overall goal difference/goals scored? Goals scored. Overall goal difference would have been tied on +2.
June 19, 201213 yr Nice to see England through, I am a bit sorry for Ukraine. Is it safe to say that joint-organized Euros are jinxed? 2000 Belgium / Netherlands (Belgium out on round 1) 2008 Austria / Switzerland (both out on round 1) 2012 Poland / Ukraine (both out on round 1) Compared to one-country Euros (with group rounds) 1980 - Italy > semifinalist 1984 - France > champions 1988 - Germany > semifinalist 1992 - Sweden > semifinalist 1996 - England > semifinalist 2004 - Portugal > finalist 2016 - France ???
June 19, 201213 yr Just shows that the smaller teams don't really get the "home advantage". Think it's a bit different in the World Cup though, although I'd be shocked if Qatar got through when they host!

Most of the co-hosts (Netherlands being the exception) would have struggled to qualify if they hadn't got through as hosts.
June 20, 201213 yr Just shows that the smaller teams don't really get the "home advantage". Think it's a bit different in the World Cup though, although I'd be shocked if Qatar got through when they host! Here comes the scouting of international stars who haven't quite made their national sides but have a shady mysterious Qatari great great grandfather twice removed.
June 20, 201213 yr Paddy Power: To win Germany 9/4 Spain 5/2 Portugal 15/2 England 8/1 Italy 8/1 France 10/1 Czech Republic 40/1 Greece 50/1 Top Goalscorer Mario Gomez 13/8 Cristiano Ronaldo 7/2 Fernando Torres 5/1 Cesc Fabregas 16/1 Wayne Rooney 22/1 Alan Dzagoev 25/1 Mario Mandzukic 25/1 Karim Benzema 33/1 Lukas Podolski 33/1 Mario Baloteli 44/1
June 21, 201213 yr Definitely deserved. Czech Republic kinda gave up in the 2nd half. Still, there were far too many missed shots imo
June 21, 201213 yr Ronaldo scored a blinder after hitting the woodwork twice. I fancy a Spain vs. Portugal semi now, if Spain win against France.
June 21, 201213 yr I said pre-tournament that Czech Republic are the worst team at the tournament and even getting this far and winning twice, they've done nothing to convince me I was wrong. Awful team there due to luck rather than skill. Portugal deserved it but still don't think they're that good, carrying a lot of crap.
June 21, 201213 yr Tbh, I've yet to see any teams be that great in this Euro tournament, all the teams aren't as good as 4 years ago
June 21, 201213 yr No, you're right there. It's like watching the Premier League really, the top teams just aren't as good as they were not that long ago.
June 21, 201213 yr Author Portugal are apparently contenders after beating a pretty sub-par Czech side. They'll be found out against Spain - in fact, they'd probably be found out by a team that plays the Czechs' game slightly better (hello England!).
June 22, 201213 yr Portugal will create a few problems for Spain. I don't think Spain have been great defensively, but I guess they don't have to be when they keep the ball as much as they do Ronaldo vs. Barcelona/Real Madrid.. Well that's assuming France don't win
June 22, 201213 yr Germany should breeze through tonight, Greece have played awful in their group games, they just got lucky to qualify. 4-0 to Germany, maybe more.
June 22, 201213 yr Germany resting a few players tonight with Klose, Schurrle and Reus coming in for Gomez, Podolski and Muller That's how confident they are Although, their replacements aren't bad either
June 22, 201213 yr The depth of Germany and Spain is insane. Their second XI would probably qualify for the Quarter Finals. They're so far ahead of everyone else but anything can happen in a one off game. The tournament so far has shown why people who moan about the World Rankings because of England's high position are wrong. There simply aren't many very good teams at international level, plenty of decent ones but all have weaknesses and inconsistencies that you could order 5th to about 20th in any way and it wouldn't be far wrong.
