Posted December 14, 201113 yr This song being is tipped for Xmas number one but how well will it sell??? I've voted (first week) 300k - 400k and (overall) 800k - 100k Edited December 14, 201113 yr by Jingle Bells
December 14, 201113 yr You might like to mention that it is the song that the Military Wives are covering - I didn't know that without looking it up! Also, you've done what I also accidentally did on my last poll - used a 'greater than' sign for your lowest categories instead of a 'less than'. ;) As for the song itself, I don't believe the hype, so have picked the lowest categories as can see it having zero appeal to the usual singles-buying crowd. It's an original song isn't it?
December 14, 201113 yr It's an original song isn't it? It is? Even so, that doesn't alter the overall direction of my comments.
December 14, 201113 yr I still can't see this happening, I'm not taken in by this at all. Most kids and teenagers wouldn't download the Military Wives, its not their typical music taste, plus with a full week of physicals Little Mix could fare better. And it could have a week in the new year with the iTunes gift cards. I still think Little Mix are safe at #1 for 3 weeks. I'm sure Amazon has a low share of the digital market, I believe it when I see it. I should imagine 65% kids and teenagers do most of the downloading in a typical household, if I was a typical kid, I wouldn't download this rubbish.
December 14, 201113 yr I'm sure Amazon has a low share of the digital market, I believe it when I see it. not sure what the share of amazons digital market has got to do with the sales of this song. on amazon bestellers list for CDs it's currently No. 3 - just behind Buble and Amy - but outselling Coldplay, Adele and Now thats what I call Music 80. It's pre-order sales of almost 3 weeks will of course add to the sales next week too. it is absolutely huge on CD - the fact it's only 1.99 might help for sure. for me this makes it the most obvous No.1 of the year - but let's wait and see ...
December 14, 201113 yr Hmm, went for 200-300k as it's halfway between my initial reaction and what seems likely if the hype is to be believed.
December 14, 201113 yr I hope it does well because the sentiment and cause are good but it is such an awful song. I imagine it will be stocked at Supermarkets so should do about 200k next week.
December 14, 201113 yr 300k-400k with overall sales of 600k-800k, it will probably die off rather quickly after a HUGE opening week...
December 14, 201113 yr Doesn't appeal to the usual singles market at all. Will not do well on downloads. So it will not do as well as hyped seems to be the opinion of many. All totally wrong of course. Has huge physical pre-orders and is going to be prominently on sale in every supermarket in the country. Possibly the biggest single week of any single for ages. It appeals to a huge market that is much bigger than the normal singles buying one, one that Record Companies have given up on normally.
December 14, 201113 yr I think it's a lovely song, it made me cry when I watched them perform it at the Royal Festival of Remembrance service.
December 14, 201113 yr 200-300k first week, probably the biggest first week sales of the year - overall I'd say 400-600k as I'm expecting a chart run of 1-2-11-40-OUT
December 14, 201113 yr I've had soooo many people asking about this at work for weeks! I'm going to say 300-400k opening week, 600-800k overall. Can see it stalling pretty sharply as soon as Xmas is over.
December 14, 201113 yr If the bookies odds are anything to go off, this might actually break 500k next week. There's a fair amount of hype surrounding this song so who knows. I'm sure it'll over be in the news next week so that is guaranteed to generate more interest in the song leading to more people buying the song who at the moment aren't likely to be aware of the songs existence. However, even if it does have a massive surge in sales next week and is officially the Xmas #1 for 2011, I think post-Xmas there will be little demand for this song so as C.W. has pointed out, it'll be lucky to spend 5 weeks in the top 40.
December 14, 201113 yr yes opening with 300k then dying off quickly- lucky to sell 600-700 in the long run.
