JONATHON. CRIMINALLY LOW FOR ON THE FLOOR!

I'm also pretty shocked at how low Future History is on your albums list, given his debut was your #1 album of the year..

JonathAn*

Criminally overrated/over played. It's boring for me now! :( His debut is such a good album though. He had a lot to live up to, but 'Future History' is not even a third as good as that! :(

Ooh, The Last Time made it in as well :wub: I agree that it's better than Psycho, which finished 15th in my EOY 2010 chart...

Running Scared was indeed a nice enough song but so lacklustre for a winner, especially when Popular got so close :( Lets not even mention that jury worshipped mess that finished second...either way, Popular is the only one of those three to come anywhere near my EOY top 100. To think that last year's ESC winner was my #1 of 2010!

Such a great pop song. Another great and original entry from you. I can see why people are a little annoyed at how well the top 2 did in comparison to the favourite. But I was sort of expecting "a shock" victory and Azerbaijan did more than that, they got it on the back of a weak performance. Still like the song a lot though.

Another nice section, although don't bother listening to Parade's album, it's crap - Louder and Perfume are by far the best things on it. Lovely to see the two Yasmin singles there, On My Own ended up at #51 in mine too :lol: By the way, a studio version of Part II of Coming Home has leaked, it's gorgeous as was expected;

Ooh. That's rather nice! I do really love her voice! Can't believe 'Invisible' did as terribly as it did. :nocheer: She deserved better. Aha. I'll give Parade's album a miss then :/ Is it really that terrible? :(

Poor Olly :(

Like Next To You, Up All Night, Lazy Song, Heart Skips A Beat, Wet, Notorious & Dance With Me Tonight Jon. Looking forward to the top 40 :)

Thank you for commenting Rob! I really appreciate it :D

035. Destinee & Paris || 'True Love'

My Personal Chart Run: [12-7-3-2-4-6-12-20-37-37] (10 Weeks)

At #35 is a female duo. The new Aly & AJ? Maybe. But this is far better than anything A&A have done so far. (Yes that includes 'Potential Break Up Song' for me ;o) 'True Love' is an infectious, fun pop track. It is similar to Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream', melodically, but it doesn't seem to get old as quick. My second favourite (of my own) BJSC entry and third favourite entry of all of this year!

034. Adele || 'Someone Like You'

My Personal Chart Run: [9-3-8-31-19-3-10-19-35-X(35)-34] (10 Weeks)

Songs like this come along once in a blue moon. One that keeps everyone quiet whenever it's performed live. Every performance of this song, you can hear a pin drop. Seriously astonishing stuff. But songs like this also remind me of how much I HATE radio and video channels raping a certain song to it's actual death. Still a beautiful song though.

033. Britney Spears || 'I Wanna Go'

My Personal Chart Run: [11-9-10-12-14-26-32-X(3)-36-27-19-11-2-3-8-13-19-31] (17 Weeks)

Next we have Britney's second of four entries into the EOY chart. 'I Wanna Go' is a fun and colourful pop track. The video is very tongue-in-cheek and is one of her best videos to date. It shows Britney having fun and you can see it in her. It wore on me once it was made a single, but when I loved it, I LOVED it.

032. Jessie J || 'Do It Like A Dude'

My Personal Chart Run: [14-6-4-7-3-8-10-12-17-28-39-X(39)-21] (12 Weeks)

Here we have a song which was released late 2010 but rolled into the new year and introduced us to Jessie J! It's ironic that this song took off so much as it's a general spoof of today's current pop songs and Jessie released it as a buzz single, to get hype going for her 2011 campaign. Although it's not one of her strongest tracks, for me, it's still a damn good song. Such a good song live, too.

031. M83 || 'Midnight City'

My Personal Chart Run: [34-30-21-19-10-4-5-9-16-29-40] (11 Weeks)

Finishing off the top 40 section is the comeback single from M83. I haven't had much interest in them previously, the only song of theirs I really liked was 'Car! Chase! Terror!' but none of their albums hit me when listening to them. 'Midnight City' on the other hand is somethign really, really special! I do wish it was a successful chart hit, but that's not what M83 are about, I guess. Their album is excellent too!

030. Loreen || 'Sober'

My Personal Chart Run: [17-3-5-13-29-34-37-40] (08 Weeks)

Kick starting the top 30 for us, is BJSC winner, Loreen with the beautiful 'Sober'. A very deserving winner and one of my favourite ever entries. I'm still holding out for hope of a UK release at some point! But I think I'm being rather optimistic with that.

029. Bruno Mars || 'Marry You'

My Personal Chart Run: [17-14-13-15-7-4-6-11-10-17-22-26-36] (13 Weeks)

Huge sigh of relief with the voice of Bruno Mars fans everywhere, rejoicing when this was announced as a single. It's a very fun song about wanting to marry that special someone! Although the lyrics are just as cheesy and corny as his past hits, it's nice to see him actually move away from the stripped back, piano sound and go for it with this track.

028. Nicole Scherzinger || 'Don't Hold Your Breath'

My Personal Chart Run: [18-13-10-7-3-6-6-4-10-10-15-17-24-37] (14 Weeks)

Here we have Nicole Scherzinger and her first UK solo number 1 hit, 'Don't Hold Your Breath'. Fantastic song that has a subtle European, dance sound to it. A very deserving hit for her. Not my favourite song from her though as that one is still to come! But an extremely strong song.

027. Glee Cast || 'Pretending'

My Personal Chart Run: [19-10-12-12-10-13-19-29-30-32-39] (11 Weeks)

Here we have the second of four Glee songs to enter the EOY chart. 'Pretending' is the classic Finn and Rachel duet which has a typical Ryan Tedder sound, in it's production. It works extremely well though. It's within my top 20 Glee songs ever, though and is just beautiful.

---

026. Glee Cast || 'Get It Right'

My Personal Chart Run: [9-9-9-4-8-11-15-19-8-16-29-37] (12 Weeks)

Now we have another Glee song. This time it's the stunning 'Get It Right'! The ballad song that went with 'Loser Like Me' (which is still to appear). Lea Michele always had a big voice, but it's at it's best on this song I reckon. Breathtaking stuff.

025. Jessie J || 'Nobody's Perfect'

My Personal Chart Run: [31-18-24-30-X(2)-23-21-18-9-12-20-28-17-22-28] (14 Weeks)

At number 25 is the 3rd of 5 entries from Jessie J. This is a strange one, I always preferred the previous 2 songs to this one, but recently I've been getting into this song, big time. It's a fantastic song and the video is her best to date, imo. It's really quite something. I thought it was a disastrous choice at first, but I'm glad she released it as we got a new edit of the song, that is much better than the album edit.

024. Jessie J || 'Who's Laughing Now'

My Personal Chart Run: [13-21-29-39-X(13)-22-11-8-9-12-12-4-5-8-21-25-32-X(4)-19] (17 Weeks)

'Who's Laughing Now' is next at #24. Was always one of my favourites from the album and I was ecstatic with the choice to release this over the rest of the album. It's one of those feel good songs, lyrically. But with a completely different backing and production compared to the usual "power ballad anthem" choice. (Like 'f***ing Perfect'/'Firework'/'Who You Are'). This is the 4th of 5 entries from Jessie. One more to go!

023. Christina Perri || 'Jar Of Hearts'

My Personal Chart Run: [13-9-22-33-X(2)-27-23-16-14-12-11-17-27-27-40] (14 Weeks)

Up next is the piano ballad, 'Jar Of Hearts' that seemed to take off thanks to a 59p reduction on UK iTunes and has been a staple inside the UK top 40, ever since. I first heard this song some time last year I believe and always thought it was nice, but it wasn't until the Glee performance where I actually started to appreciate it myself.

022. Tinchy Stryder (feat. Melanie Fiona) || 'Let It Rain'

My Personal Chart Run: [23-20-6-5-9-15-16-20-24-30-36] (11 Weeks)

One of the biggest chart regrest this year, is not giving this song the life it deserved in my chart. Although 11 weeks is not anything to be sniffed at, the fact it's so high up in my EOY countdown is proof enough that I love this song a hell of a lot more than what it would suggest. Truly deserved to be a bigger hit on the UK charts too. I do slightly prefer Devlin & Yasmin's hip-hop/RnB collab, but this runns it ridiculously close. (Although neither come close to 'Oopsy Daisy'!)

---

021. Avril Lavigne || 'Wish You Were Here'

My Personal Chart Run: [2-2-5-9-15-26-38] (07 Weeks)

Tinchy is "one of" my biggest chart regrets, but this song IS the biggest regret. It's such a beautiful song and as a big fan of Avril anyway, this really should have held on for much longer than it eventually did. It's one of my favourite Avril songs to date and I think it deserved to do better everywhere. Not just my chart. Stunning song from an underrated album. (It really is her 'My December'! :()

CHER LLOYD || 'SWAGGER JAGGER'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-5-9-15-24-28-34-37-40] (16 Weeks)

Kick starting the top 20 singles is the track that got EVERYBODY talking. Whether you were for it or against it, you were/have been talking about this track at some point this year. It was to be expected though, when your very first single is a song that addresses the "haters". Many people would have expected this to be top 5/10 for me, at least but the reason as to why it is so low, is the fact that now I have her album, this is definitely one of my least favourites from it. I'd rank in the bottom 2, personally!

LADY GAGA || 'BORN THIS WAY'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [1-1-1-2-5-5-5-9] (08 Weeks)

TOP 5 'BORN THIS WAY' RANK:

01. 'The Edge of Glory'

02. 'Hair'

03. 'Scheiße'

04. 'Highway Unicorn (Road 2 Love)'

05. 'Marry the Night'

In the EOY Album's rundown, we have the fastest selling album of the year. Lady GaGa's much anticipated 2nd full studio album, 'Born This Way'. It took me a few listens to get into, but for the time it was in my chart I really did enjoy it. My favourite of the time was the unpopular 'Highway Unicorn (Road 2 Love)', which I still think is the most underrated track from BTW. 'Hair' is incredible and deserves more appreciation though. But this is a disappointing turn out for GaGa in my EOY chart! I was fully expecting to have this album inside my top 10! I guess I just prefer the more simpler pop stars such as Rihanna, Britney & Katy...

I love the M83 hit Midnight City, I just love the sax on it this was the track I intended to use for BJSC :snif: I swear I could have won :heehee: I bought the album as well, but I just found it too much to listen to unfortunately I hardly play it now. Reunion is their next single though :D Shame it won't do anything in our British chart.

Nice enough choice. Even though I would love a 'Raconte-Moi Une Histoire' release. Even just for a video for it! :lol:

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [35-30-34-29-15-6-8-11-15-19-25-28-33-39-39] (15 Weeks)

Next in the countdown is Nicole Scherzinger's best ever solo song, to date. It does what 'I'm Into You' failed to do and be a decent song in a similar vein to 'What's My Name?' without sounding too much like WMN. It's so fresh and I remember when this was announced as a single, it made NO SENSE at all at the time, but I'm so very glad they made it a single. It grew and grew on me and the video is what made me realise that it was indeed a fantastic single choice. (Please note, this is strictly the version WITHOUT that hideous monster, 50 Cent!)

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [9-6-7-9-10-X(10)-1-3-7] (08 Weeks)

01. 'Wish You Were Here'

02. 'Push'

03. 'What the Hell'

04. 'Stop Standing There'

05. 'I Love You'

Now it's time for a comeback that flopped, BIG TIME here in the UK. Which is a shame really as I love Avril ('The Best Damn Thing' is still one of my favourite albums!). This album took it's time to click with me though. It really is her equivalent to 'My December', in the sense it's a darker and more mature version of her former albums. She deserves more success with this era and I'm still in a dream where 'Wish You Were Here' WILL become the big hit it truly deserves to be :(

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [7-8-11-11-7-10-3-2-2-2-6-11-14-17-23-38] (16 Weeks)

At #18 we have my favourite P!nk song, since she released 'Please Don't Leave Me'. It's another one of those "feel good about your self" power anthems. But this is definitely amongst my favourite of it's type. The video is pretty much what I expected/wanted from a pregnant Alecia. She got the perfect lead girl in, Tina Majorino.

STEPS || 'THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [5-4-2-3-3-5-8-7-8] (09 Weeks - STILL CHARTING)

TOP 5 'THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION' RANK:

01. 'It's the Way You Make Me Feel'

02. 'Say You'll Be Mine'

03. 'One For Sorrow'

04. 'Here & Now'

05. 'After The Love Has Gone'

In the albums, it's time for the biggest comeback story of 2011! Everyone's favourite 90's cheese group, Steps, decided it was time for a comeback for one last tour and another Greatest Hits album. There was massive hype surrounding their comeback and it seemed to grow and grow with each passing week as their television show was aired. It ended up in getting them yet another number 1 album! 'It's the Way You Make Me Feel' is definitely the greatest thing they've ever (and likely ever will do!) done. I do wish they'd promote that song more than 'Tragedy' or 'Deeper Shade of Blue' though :s

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [14-10-9-12-11-7-4-2-1-1-4-3-7-8-10-13-20-33] (18 Weeks)

The queen of 2011 collaborations is back in my EOY chart, although this time, she's alone! 'Invisible' reached number 1 in my chart a while before the official release, iirc and managed to hold on for two weeks. It also took it's time to peak too. But once it clicked, it CLICKED. Such a shame that despite seeming to get radio support, it struggled really hard upon it's release.

THE KING BLUES || 'PUNK & POETRY'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [2-2-3-4-3-5-8-6-7-9] (10 Weeks)

01. 'Headbutt'

02. 'I Want You'

03. 'Everything Happens For A Reason'

04. 'Set the World On Fire'

05. '5 Bottles of Shampoo'

Up now in the albums is the third studio album from punk band, The King Blues. There is no doubt that with each passing album, they are gradually becoming more and more mainstream. But they're a band who realise this and it's hard to go from an underground success to completely "selling out" and becoming a bit of a nothing in the mainstream world. But this album is probably my favourite of the three as it's definitely their most mainstream yet.

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [27-19-9-4-4-5-8-11-11-17-15-16-18-22-30-35] (16 Weeks)

In at number 16 we have the ultimate feel good anthem from Noah & The Whale, who I have been taking a steady rise of interest in! I liked '5 Years Time' a bit but as soon as I heard 'First Days of Spring' (the song), it was pretty much love all the way from then on! That album is a bit depressing, but beautiful all the same, however this era shows a much happier Charlie and it comes across in their new album. 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' isn't just fun to type out but is a really chilled out and feel good, sing-a-long anthem.

JENNIFER LOPEZ || 'LOVE?'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [1-1-6-10-X(12)-8-5-6-8-10-10-9-9] (12 Weeks)

TOP 5 'LOVE?' RANK:

01. 'Starting Over'

02. 'Until It Beats No More'

03. 'Hypnotico'

04. 'Papi'

05. 'One Love'

It's Jennifer Lopez next with her newest album, 'Love?'. I never really cared much for J. Lo before this era, but OTF, IIY and (mostly) 'Papi' was enough to get me to download this album. I got over it real quick, initially but it soon grew back on me and managed to stick around for a further 8 weeks. I don't really care for much past this top 5 though. The first 2 in particular are amazing.

Jon! Very good chart so far - bar the bizarre inclusion of 'Swagger Jagger' in your top twenty :puke: I'm surprised to see Leona's 'Hurt' chart so highly for you, as well - it there was another month or so of the year, it'd definitely be in my top fifty :wub: I'm also glad that I'm not the only one who's charted 'Right There' in their top twenty :D

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [3-3-2-2-5-5-2-7-16-23-35-40] (12 Weeks - Still Charting)

Kicking off the top 15 is Cher Lloyd's second and last entry in the countdown. Much like 'Swagger Jagger', I still really, really enjoy this song, however in comparison to the rest of her album? I'd personally rank it in the bottom half of the album. Unlike 'Swagger Jagger' though, she seems to be gaining more fans through this track. I often find people are telling me that they "quite like her new one" and are warming to her slightly. This definitely received a better reaction than SJ did/has done initially. Really looking forward to more from Cher in the near future!

01. 'Remember'

02. 'Wild Thing'

03. 'Bones'

04. 'Vampire'

05. 'Home'

Misty Miller is an unknown singer, songwriter who I discovered via searching for a BJSC entry. I then stumbled upon 'Remember' and thought it would be THE perfect entry for me. I'm really glad I did as I have found myself a new talent to look forward to. The album was a pleasant and charming surprise. She is like the more alternative, female answer to Jason Mraz. Looking forward to future releases from her. (Especially since she gave me my first BJSC top 3 finish :D)

The beginning of 2011 also saw Keri Hilson jump on the Carribean/dancehall-ish sound that 'What's My Name?' made so popular. Unlike J. Lo & Nicole Scherzinger though, Keri was fortunate enough to get the best "'What's My Name?' sound rip-off". Unfortunately for Keri though, it was the least successful of the four (even less successful than Cover Drive's own take with 'Lick Ya Down'!) and hasn't helped remove her "flop tag" status here in the UK :(

KERI HILSON || 'NO BOYS ALLOWED'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [1-1-1-1-1-3-5-4-5-5-8-X(32)-1-3-7-10] (15 Weeks)

TOP 5 'NO BOYS ALLOWED' RANK:

01. 'Lose Control' (feat. Nelly)

02. 'All the Boys'

03. 'Toy Soldier'

04. 'Pretty Girl Rock'

05. 'Gimme What I Want'

Everyone here knows I am the resident Keri Hilson "loon" and when there's a new album from her, I am bound to love it for the first month or so. But now though, unlike IAPW, I don't get the urge to listen to anything past my top 4 from the album. It's still a solid and decent effort from her overall, but I just don't quite love it as much as I do 'In A Perfect World...'. I was hoping she would tap more into the 'I Like' european dance sound with this album though.

BLUE || 'I CAN'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [2-2-2-2-2-1-4-1-3-7-14-19-29] (13 Weeks)

At the superstitious number 13, we have a very welcome return from UK boyband, Blue. This was the UK Eurovision entry for this. It was a hot favourite with both the bookies and Eurovision fans, but on the night when it mattered most, thanks to coming bottom 5 with the judges votes but coming top 5 in the publics votes, we finished at the horrible number 11 position. A complete injustice for such a fantastic, contemporary and fresh Eurovision song. But what we can take away from this years experience is that amongst other countries and in the televotes we CAN finish in the top 5 and become serious contenders with the right song. Just a shame the judges seemed to heavily favour the crap entries (like Italy's abysmal song - which finished second) over the genuinely good and perfect pop songs.

RIHANNA || 'TALK THAT TALK'

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [3-4-6-7] (4 Weeks - Still Charting)

01. 'Farewell'

02. 'We Found Love'

03. 'We All Want Love'

04. 'Roc Me Out'

05. 'Where Have You Been'

Up now we have arguably, the biggest popstar on the planet right now. Rihanna's 6th album, 'Talk That Talk' is a very good album, however it lacks the hooks that 'Loud' crafted so perfectly, and lacks the proper edginess that we got from 'Rated R'. But in fairness to her, she did have a hell of a lot to live up to and follow. There is only so far you can go before you get a glitch in your discography. I would personally rank this above her first two albums, but that's it.

MY PERSONAL CHART RUN: [1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-6-7-7-10-13-17-20-26-34-40] (19 Weeks)

Next is the former Queen of Pop, Ms. Britney Spears. In her first single since 2009's 'Radar', once again Britney changed her sound and revolutionised todays pop sound by adding a dubstep breakdown in the middle of the song. Looking back I do feel harsh by making this miss the top 10, as listening to it again and seeing the video again made me realise that I actually really adore it. But I love the top 11 just as much, obviously. This years been quite a strong year for music personally.

01. 'Ghost On the Dancefloor'

02. 'Up All Night'

03. 'After Midnight'

04. 'Heart's All Gone'

05. 'Natives'

Next in the albums is the highly anticipated, comeback album from the kings of punk-pop, blink-182. After splitting up in 2005, they announced a comeback in 2009! So this album was 2 years in the waiting and I wasn't disappointed. It's a great album that sticks to blink's original sound, whilst trying to change it up slightly and become more contemporary. Their UK tour was scheduled for Summer of this year, but due to having no new material released in time, they delayed it for Summer 2012 instead. Grr.

Just missing out on the top 10 position this year and stalling at number 11 in the Singles EOY countdown is Rihanna with her smash hit, 'We Found Love'. 'We Found Love' is one of those songs that just seems to stick with you, no matter how many times you hear it. It's infectious and it isn't exactly wearing on me either. I do hope she headlines a major festival next year, here in the UK. This track would be an absolute pleasure to see, live! I can imagine the festival crowds all going mental to this. (Much like in the video of her in the field). She still has one more track to come!

The number 11 album of 2011 goes to, M83 and their fantastic album, 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'. The only other M83 albums I had heard were 'Before the Dawn Heals Us' & 'Saturdays = Youth' (which I only listened to the latter on a half assed listen and just the once through). Can't remember much from them, but my God I can't remember them being as good as 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'! The only downside is, you get so much filler if you have too many tracks.

Kicking off the top 10 albums is the sophomore album from the cheeky chappy, Olly Murs. Always thought there was something with Olly, ever since his first audition in X Factor so when he came second I was a bit gutted he didn't manage to go all the way and win. However, turns out to be the best thing for him. He has his own material to release and I doubt they would have let him have too much input into what he does if he actually won. This album is really, really strong and I definitely prefer it to his debut, even though it's similar in sound it does seem like somewhat of a progression for him and it sounds like he's finally found his niche.

At number 9 in the my albums EOY countdown, it's the brilliant new album from the "biggest girl group left in Britain". (Well that was until Little Mix arrived!) Poor The Saturdays, no matter how good their songs are, they can't catch a break at the minute, can they? I think 'On Your Radar' is my favourite Saturdays collection to date. So contemporary, cohesive and it just flows. Una is the shining star on this particular album though, and deservedly so! 'White Lies' is definitely one of the best album/pop tracks I have heard this year. They should have released it after 'All Fired Up' (which I would have chosen as the lead single) then followed it with MHTO or 'Last Call' for the winter. Ah well. Better luck next time.
