Posted December 20, 201113 yr I bought A Kylie Christmas last week which contains Santa Baby and Let it Snow. Then I noticed that Santa Baby had charted. So how does it work when you buy the "Kylie Christmas" as a package - does only Santa Baby become chart eligible? If that's the case would I have been better off buying them one at a time to help to help with the chart position of both songs?
December 20, 201113 yr A Kylie Christmas charted at #188 in the singles last year, Santa Baby charts on its own because it's available on Xmas albums :)
December 20, 201113 yr Author Thank you - I get it and that makes sense. It's like Let it Snow is the "B side" - but if I had bought them separately both songs would have a sale towards the charts.
December 20, 201113 yr Yep, buy a copy of Let it Snow, that's a sale towards the chart. Buy Santa Baby, that's a sale towards the chart. Buy A Kylie Christmas/Christmas Gift, that's a sale towards the chart :)
December 22, 201113 yr Author Thanks for the helpful and "smart" comments...but I still can't quite get my head around it. So, using hypothetical sales data to illustrate my confusion, say that this week: "Let it Snow" is a downloaded as a separate track from A Kylie Christmas 1,000,001 times this week. "A Kylie Christmas"is downloaded as a package 1,000,000 times this week. And "Santa Baby" is downloaded as a separate track from A Kylie Christmas 999,999 times this week (and not downloaded from other albums). Therefore, if no other individual tracks or packages from other acts sold more, would the top three look this this: 1. Let it Snow - Kylie 2. A Kylie Christmas - Kylie 3. Santa Baby - Kylie I drive a lot, hence I have plenty time to overthink but I am still interested to know how these sales stack up.

(And I have absolutely no idea how it works chart-wise.)

Yes, it would, I think (although I would think I was dreaming if Kylie sold that much in a week!)
December 23, 201113 yr Author Thanks...I'm now wondering if anyone has the complete chart for last week as Leona Lewis's Hurt EP should have charted seperately - Hurt as a song and the Hurt EP.
December 23, 201113 yr Thanks...I'm now wondering if anyone has the complete chart for last week as Leona Lewis's Hurt EP should have charted seperately - Hurt as a song and the Hurt EP. Sales of the Hurt EP were combined to the track 'Hurt'. It's essentially no different to a single and two B-Sides. Iris and Colourblind would have charted lower down if they sold enough of their own accord (which they didn't). I think 'A Kylie Christmas' would probably get combined to whatever track 1 of it is, the same as Lady Gaga's 'A Very Gaga Holiday', the sales of which charted under the title 'White Christmas' (or at least this can be assumed as White Christmas itself sold bugger all and nowhere near enough for top 100). The OCC aren't really very consistent with these things though. Bruno Mars' 3-track EP 'It's Better If You Don't Understand' is pretty much the exact opposite story. The EP itself sold barely anything but sales of the individual track 'Somewhere In Brooklyn' were enough for it to chart top 100, but it charted under the title of the EP rather than the title of the track.
December 24, 201113 yr Author Thanks Mr Bubre - it seems that there is no definitive answer to this and unless there starts to be a lot more EPs, I guess it hardly matters. Having said all this - I think I will download tracks separately in the future then, just for maximum chart impact just in case.
