One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful (52-34-24-16-4-2-8-19) QJO3ROT-A4E&ob Kicking off the top 40 is Dream Life, Life by Colbie Caillat, the easy standout from the All Of You album, and as chirpy as I Do and Brighter Than The Sun are, I can't understand why this wasn't a single at some point at least. Would have fit quite nicely on Coco, which is high praise, being one of my top five favourite albums ever. Next up is a classical piano instrumental piece by Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi. I Giorni was propelled into the UK top 40 by Greg James playing it on Radio 1 and I fell in love. It didn't last long in my volatile chart, one of the fastest moving on Buzzjack (as you can see by some of these chart runs, and the fact that I had 158 top ten hits this year :o), but I still absolutely adore it and regularly go back to it. Noah & The Whale came back in style with the brilliantly titled L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. which gradually climbed the UK charts to get a top 15 peak and racked up some decent sales in the process, not bad for a band I'd written off ever having another hit! A great feel good indie song, it scored a #5 peak in my chart. Meanwhile, I hadn't realised it but Diddy-Dirty Money's Coming Home, which introduced the gorgeous vocals of Skylar Grey on the intro, managed two months in my top ten! As DanielXF noted in his thread, I haven't really thought about it since but it did spend an incredibly long time in my affections and listening back to it now I can remember why, a perfect mix of an anthemic female chorus, excellent production and decent raps from P-Puff Sean Diddy Daddy. And rounding off this section is my favourite boyband year of the single by quite some stretch, the excellent debut single from One Direction. I didn't mind them on X Factor (I rather enjoyed their take on All You Need Is Love!) but I was far from a fan. It doesn't mean I can't appreciate a great pop song though and this was one of them - instantly catchy with a universal chorus and lyrics that any teenage girl will surely fall for, the fact that it's still lingering around the UK top 40 so long after release whilst the limp follow up single has come and gone in the meantime speaks volumes. It reaches far beyond just the group's fanbase and quite rightly so, British manufactured pop at its absolute best.

Coming Home is gorgeous, even Diddy's rapping, but Skylar easily has the best bits (I wasn't really expecting to see it here, but I wasn't around when it was big, I guess). I Giorni is fairly good actually, considering I'm not normally into that kind of thing, and LIFEGOESON and What Makes You Beautiful are both great popular hits. Can't deny either of them. Haven't heard Dream Life, Life, before, but it sounds fairly good on first listen.
December 24, 201113 yr 55. Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (#2) Also representing Australia in this section are soon to be UK smash Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye feat New Zealand's Kimbra. 47. Agnes Obel - Riverside (#3) Another BJSC discovery at #47, courtesy of debuting nation Batidas (Hitstastic) an what an opening splash it was as they won their first contest with the gorgeous Riverside by Danish singer/songwriter Agnes Obel. I shall do some proper overall comments at the end when a nice little 01-40 (or 01-100) recap has been posted. Thought these two tracks especially needed to be singled for some Hits wub!!! I wonder how many BJSC entries/discoveries will make my Chart of 2011? :o Including my own entries (that's 5 tracks from 2011 that should be in there alongside other faves too).
December 25, 201113 yr Hey! You are flying through this countdown! Here are my comments for what you've posted so far! :D Singles: 97. Maja Keuc - No One (#6) So glad this did well for Slovenia, a well earned break from the DNQs! 92. Yohanna - Nótt (#4) A shame she flopped in the Icelandic selection. I much prefer the Icelandic version to Slow Down also! 90. Karizma - When Life is Grey (#8) This would have been an absolutely awesome Moldovan Eurovision entry! The public were behind it, awarding her 12 points but the jury sunk her with a measely 1 point. Such a complete injustice! 85. Same Difference feat Alcazar - Karma Karma (#3) Such an excellent pop tune! Can you imagine if this had been in Melodifestivalen this year? :o 84. The Saturdays - All Fired Up (#5) Their best song from this era by mile! 80. Edith Backlund - What I've Become (#5) It would have been interesting to see how this would have performed in BJSC. It was a little subtle on first listen, but I grew to love this! 71. Sara Bareilles - Love Is Christmas (#3) My favourite Christmas track from this year. I'm surprised it wasn't picked for use on a TV advert - maybe next year? 69. Agnes - Don't Go Breaking My Heart (#4) I adore this track! So looking forward to her album! 67. Rachel Platten - 1000 Ships (#3) One of my favourites from BJSC this year, I can't help but smile when listening to it! 63. Lena - Taken By A Stranger (#5) The performance of this in Dusseldorf was fantastic! 59. Amaury Vassili - Sognu (#4) Hmm. I am glad this completely failed to live up to the hype in all honesty! :heehee: 53. Ria - Over You (#2) I was a little surprised this didn't fare better in TBO, it was one of my favourite Rontvian entries this year! 52. Lady Gaga - Scheiße (#3) This should have been a single :( 47. Agnes Obel - Riverside (#3) This and the rest of the album is absolutely stunning  . A worthy BJSC and TC winner Albums: 17. Caro Emerald - Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor #17 seems low for this, I'm assuming it featured higher last year? 19. Nicola Roberts - Cinderella's Eyes A very impressive debut, she was always the most interesting GA member imo, so I did have high hopes for this album. Thank goodness she didn't disappoint!

True, it's a curse of liking SO many different songs that I hear and thinking that they all deserve to be top ten in my chart  Only maybe 15 or 20 songs per year go on to have really impressive chart runs for me! I guess the likes of Sognu and I Giorni showing up go some way to explaining my love for Wherever You Are - that's three opera/classical songs in my EOY top 100 :o  I shall do some proper overall comments at the end when a nice little 01-40 (or 01-100) recap has been posted. Thanks Hits, I'll await your comments with interest, I thought you'd appreciate those two! I already knew the Gotye song before you sent it to BJSC but the Agnes Obel discovery was 100% your doing so you can take great pride in that :P Hey! You are flying through this countdown! Thanks Ghosty, yeah I never hang around with things do I  97. Indeed, it definitely deserved its place in the final, shame it couldn't come top ten really... 92. I agree, it should have won but I can't deny the sentiment of Sjonni's Friends. Don't know how it didn't finish second though! I never listen to Slow Down, it sounds very jarring. I usually get used to English versions of songs I've heard first in another language but Nótt just seems to work far better... 90. It really should have been the Moldovan entry :( I wish they'd switch to a fully public vote next year 85. It would have been a great entry! I've just realised that Melodifestivalen is responsible for more entries in my EOY top 40 than Eurovision is this year  84. White Lies is my favourite 'song' from the era but it's definitely the best single from it! Sounded brilliant live! 80. I honestly think mid-table would have been its calling sadly, but it's a lovely song, such a grower. 71. My favourite too, I'd love it to be a hit at some point but it would NEED the exposure like an advert. 69. I'm still looking forward to the album because On & On was only a #32 hit in my chart so I'll judge it based on the second single and not the first :P That said, I far prefer DGBMH to On & On! 67. Definitely up there with my favourite discoveries too! It's such a charming song. 63. I agree, so hypnotising and she looked stunning. 59. Yes I knew you would be  I still really like it, I guess I'm getting more into classical type music recently... 53. It's a shame that it fell back to 14th in the re-run of its contest but there we go. The strings are my favourite bit about it, they're amazing  52. I couldn't agree more :( 47. Definitely agree with that, I revisited the album when compiling my EOY top 40 (from a shortlist of about 100 odd albums) and it's still very beautiful to listen to. Albums 17. Actually it finished 21st last year...I guess its long chart run being spread across two years has diluted its chance of having an impressive year end peak but it still makes no difference in my 'all time favourites' list! 19. I agree, really strong debut!

Britney Spears - Till The World Ends (20-20-32-15-6-3-7-2-5-15-37) qzU9OrZlKb8&ob Beginning this next section is the comeback single from Andrea Corr, the lead singer of my favourite group of all time, The Corrs. Blue Nile cover Tinseltown In The Rain was something of a slow burner but eventually won me over in a big way. And considering that it's pretty much the only song from 2011 that's made it onto the (narrow) playlist at work, it's fair to say that the daily continued exposure to it has helped it to remain high in my affections  Probably my favourite solo Corrs single come to think of it! And then onto four #2's. Christina Perri's second UK release, A Thousand Years, from the Twilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack was to my ears better than Jar Of Hearts. I don't know why and I know nobody else feels the same but I just prefer it, it's so beautiful and understated. Romanian dance hit Alexandra Stan's Mr Saxobeat had been on my radar since 2010 but it was only upon the UK release (typical I know) and hearing it everywhere - even Heart! - that I began to love it! The first of four Melodifestivalen entries in my top 40 of the year, it's absolutely criminal that Jenny Silver's ABBA-esque Something In Your Eyes didn't go to the final, crashing out in Andra Chansen :( An instant hit with me, it won the red headed Swede a rare top two debut in my chart! And finally onto the anthemic impending armageddon pop anthem by Britney Spears. A more melodic version of Ke$ha's Blow, written by the lady herself (and indeed a remix version appeared that featured Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj and a dubstep meets the kitchen sink middle eight), Till The World Ends was the second of four excellent but criminally underrated (in the UK) singles from Femme Fatale.
December 25, 201113 yr 85. It would have been a great entry! I've just realised that Melodifestivalen is responsible for more entries in my EOY top 40 than Eurovision is this year  Without checking, I have a feeling the same thing has occurred on my EOY chart too! I've just researched it and it only peaked at #59 in Sweden :/

I agree, though I suspect it'll be Danny's turn in Eurovision next year with an equally as generic song as In The Club! Oh dear, I know that the ESC songs exited your chart a lot more quickly this year in general though so it's not that surprising to hear...here's hoping for a great 2012 ESC indeed, and after Germany were surprisingly amateurish hosts (at least next to Russia and Norway) I hope that Azerbaijan put on a more slick and professional show! Oh I'm sure you're right. It will be his turn to do what Eric did and improve on his previous year's placing! I really hope that the best song wins and not the biggest star/most fanciable male though  Still, it could well turn out to be amazing just as Popular was 100 times better than Manboy (imo) so I won't speak too soon!

Chart Music - All My Life (3-2-3-3-4-8-14-19-28) wvZtT5tfU_o The top 30 kicks off with Florence + The Machine and a song that took a while to properly click with me but I'm not sure why. Now I'd rank it as perhaps their finest single, although Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) still probably edges it out, the euphoric Shake It Out is at #30! My current #1 has made a rapid leap up the rankings to finish the year at #29, it's my Xmas #1, and the official UK Xmas #1 - Wherever You Are by Military Wives with Gareth Malone, to me it's a beautiful string laden ballad sung well with a nice sentiment. To the rest of Buzzjack it's awful, I'm fully aware of this but I love it regardless! Onto the incredible BJSC XXXVI next and for once I got to host a great, high quality contest and surely the most memorable of 2011! I was very pleased to announce the top two as my 12 and 10 pointer respectively, Wovon Sollen Wir Träumen by German act Frida Gold in 2nd place for Espen (thank you Cal) and Video Games by Lana Del Rey in 1st pleace for Isconia (thank you Grebo). They were probably my favourite BJSC discoveries of the year, so to have them both in the same contest was rather amazing and although it was a foregone conclusion, it was great and fully deserved to see them take the top two spots. My opinion hasn't changed, I still marginally prefer the Espen entry and as such Lana's now UK top ten hit and European smash Video Games finishes my year at #28 and Frida Gold is a place above at #27, that song being only the second I've ever discovered in BJSC to go to #1 in my chart solely off the back of the contest! That harmonica  British female singer Sunday Girl seems destined never to be a success but her cover of Sunscreem's 90s anthem Love U More (also covered by Steps and Basshunter) was absolutely glorious, electro pop at its best with brilliant 'hands in the air' trance synths breaking up the gorgeous verses. A #2 hit for me in October, it finishes the year at #26! Everywhere up until Xmas fever set in properly, Charlene Soraia's cover of The Calling's Wherever You Will Go for the Twinings advert predictably had a huge impact on me (I love piano ballad covers of pretty much anything), and was a short lived but well deserved chart topper for me which finishes at #25, one place below Kelly Clarkson's comeback single and first #1 in my chart since 2005, the Bruno Mars-esque Mr Know It All. It was two months before it became amazing to me but the X Factor performance sealed the deal! Never an artist I've raved over, Will Young's comeback single, the dance tinged MOR smash Jealousy was a very slow burner for me. I was instantly appreciative of his new direction but it only properly clicked after a few weeks, but when it did it was love. A deserved return to the UK top five for Will, and already one of his classic singles. One of my first #1 singles of 2011, Britney Spears' comeback single Hold It Against Me massively appealed to me, probably moreso than any single of hers ever has before. I have no idea why as it's hardly a Britney classic but there's a sound to it that I loved and still love, and I'm sure it's not just the 'cutting edge at the time' dubstep breakdown! And rounding off this segment was my third BJSC winner in five contests, the absolutely stunning 80s influenced electro pop song All My Life by Swedish act Chart Music. I'd love to tell you more about them but I have no information - just listen to the song and enjoy it, it's beautiful, wonderful, and a well deserved winner for FSR Rontvia :P
