March 24, 201213 yr I only read the first few chapters before seeing the movie but I'm certainly going to have to continue reading now. I wanted to cry when Rue died in the movie and now you guys are saying that she's not in it much compared to the book. Thought they were going to cut the bread thing out but I really liked the use of flashbacks. The visuals were amazing. Gonna have to go and watch it again in a couple of weeks. Not even the TWILIGHT SAGA Jack? :o Nah, usually wait until the Saturday. This was so worth it though, managed to be first in the queue too.
March 24, 201213 yr Read the book(s), Phil! They are even better. I plan on reading them on holiday, or at least the first book. I kinda loved not knowing what was coming next although I don't know if I can wait for the next film
March 24, 201213 yr I was busy focusing on all of the things that they did or didn't do compared to what's in the book  It hindered me enjoying the movie :drama:
March 24, 201213 yr Thats why I don't like reading the book before I see the film. I don't like sitting there and picking out the flaws. It's why I haven't seen half the Harry Potter films.
March 24, 201213 yr OH. MY. GOD. Wow. What a fantastic film. Didn't go in expecting a huge amount, I've never read the books and the trailer kinda appealed to me. Wow. I was blown away. Hands down the best thing I've seen since Bridesmaids. You must not see many films.
March 24, 201213 yr  You must not see many films. It doesn't matter how many films I've seen since last June. It's down to personal preference. I LOVED Bridesmaids! I thought it was absolutely HILARIOUS. I had a absolutely brilliant time seeing Bridesmaids and going to see the film is not just about what's on the screen. I hate film snobbery. I like what I like and I really don't care if I get looked down on by people because of that. Last year, the best film I saw was Bridesmaids winning narrowly over Thor.

CHILL OUT. out of interest have you seen The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or The Muppets? Upon reflection now it's had a few days to settle in my mind, The Hunger Games is 7/10 at most.
March 24, 201213 yr No I haven't seen either of them, although I am gonna check out Dragon Tattoo when it hits Lovefilm/DVD. It looked intriguing and I keep meaning to read the books.
March 25, 201213 yr Basically, it was alright but it was no Battle Royale. And it's just made me want to watch Battle Royale again. Which isn't a bad thing because Battle Royale is awesome. pretty much if you're 13 or under what Hunger Games. Any older then just watch Battle Royale instead. This is what the review in the London Evening Standard ended up saying (seriously, the last three paragraphs aren't talking about The Hunger Games at all!), and it made me want to rip the paper apart. It's such a LAZY criticism to default to. Obviously they have strong thematic similarities but the contexts and political suggestions are different, not to mention the contexts of the release of both films. By all means, recommend Battle Royale to people, but not at the expense of The Hunger Games because they're complete different entities and are equally valuable products for people to encounter. I thought the film was solid and I'm definitely invested in the series now, but the drama of the action never really lit up for me. What I did like was the awkward formations of the romantic relationships - one barely sketched (Gale) and one awkwardly formed under the eye of media with unknown dimensions of truth to it. Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic, I hope she's set up to become a proper star after this. And I want a Josh Hutcherson for my own, thanks.
March 25, 201213 yr I've grown to fancy Hutcherson as well. Especially after the interviews I've seen with him. I still prefer Liam though. The accent. *.*
March 25, 201213 yr No I haven't seen either of them, although I am gonna check out Dragon Tattoo when it hits Lovefilm/DVD. It looked intriguing and I keep meaning to read the books. I'm halfway through the first book and it's fantastic. Ordered the Swedish trilogy boxset from HMV and plan to watch those after finishing the book, and then watching the Hollywood version at the end. And to go back on topic, I should be going to see The Hunger Games tomorrow :D
March 25, 201213 yr The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie was fantastic and probably my favourite movie of 2011. I'm still yet to see the Swedish films and read the books (I'm waiting for my Swedish to be decent to be able to read in original language). Edited March 25, 201213 yr by Caïn
March 25, 201213 yr So I just watched it again. Seemed a bit better comparing to the first time when I was just finding flaws. Now I appreciated the music better. Cannot wait to hear the score  Weirdly, some people started laughing at some of the scenes at the end. Like the one where Caesar says 'STOP! STOP! Let me present you the victors blah blah'. Beyond ridiculous reaction. Or the scene where bloody Cato appears at the Cornucopia before the fighting scene. WHY?!? :manson:
March 26, 201213 yr Fantastic film, will definitely read the books as soon as I've finished 'The Girl with' trilogy! I found it really gripping throughout even if I expected the eventual outcome from the start (having not read the books). I knew I recognised Gale from somewhere, he used to be in Neighbours!
March 26, 201213 yr I knew I recognised Gale from somewhere, he used to be in Neighbours! Well, he's Australian after all! :kink:
March 26, 201213 yr I'm pretty sure half of the Aussie population have been in that show  The other half have been in Home & Away of course.
March 26, 201213 yr COME, COME, witness the retardation inherent in the clueless Hunger Games fans...... http://jezebel.com/5896408/racist-hunger-g...dium=socialflow Oh, so apparently, they were "upset" that Rue turned out to be a little black girl because she presumably didn't "fit" into their media-infected brains' notions of "innocence" only being white, blonde haired and blue eyed....Apparently... f***ing MORONS, yeah, black people should just be the villains in Hollywood movies, along with the British too.... I'm frankly amazed these utter arseholes are even allowed out to the cinema without a chaperone...... I am DISGUSTED by humanity sometimes.... Mind you though, I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that the main male character wasn't a six foot tall Austrian and the main female character wasn't a feisty Hispanic woman... What do you mean I'm confusing Hunger Games with The Running Man........??
March 26, 201213 yr OH DEAR. It's more than explicitly said that dark skin is the common attribute of people of District 11 in the book. The most logical thing is to assume Rue and Thresh are black. :/ And, anyway, so what?! I thought America is getting much less racist, but looks like I was wrong. :(
March 26, 201213 yr ^ First I thought as well. But most of these are probably just the brainless teenage girls drawn in by the fact it's so called 'nu-Twilight' (it's really not) and don't care about any aspect that isn't the love dilemma.

Many parts of America just seem to me to be the same racist shitholes they were in the 1960s, Obama is just window dressing, he's just a puppet for the Corporations....
