Sales vs. Airplay

The chart works by a points system - 1 point for every 1000 sales and 1 point for every 1million audience impressions on airplay as far as I know, so a song could get to #1 officially without any airplay if the sales are high enough. Small amount of streaming is included too I think but no one seems to know much about that.

So pleased for them! And off topic, but TW are up to #2 on Canadian iTunes.

They've tweeted that they are up to #1 :D

Glee's 'Fly / I Believe I Can Fly' has knocked Rolling In The Deep back out of the top 10 just as I predicted <_<

The Wanted in the top 5 is brilliant, they've surpassed Tinie Tempah's US iTunes peak of #6 so hopefully Glad You Came won't end up doing a 'Written In The Stars' after all (but they're lucky they had Glee to boost them into the top 10 really - I hope it can hold up as the Glee boost wears off).

Kelly Clarkson will almost certainly be heading back for #1 on the Hot 100 now Glee has pushed her well ahead of Adele again on iTunes. I hope Adele can stay #2 again, she has the airplay advantage but it depends how far fun. are ahead of her on sales (maybe Katy Perry as well since she has some airplay but she's not really THAT far ahead on sales any more - B.o.B surely has too little airplay to challenge plus he'll probably have fallen by the end of the week anyway).

69. Climax - Usher

:kink:

Canadian iTunes

01. The Wanted - Glad You Came 100%

02. Katy Perry - Part Of Me 79.4%

I can't believe the success of Glad You Came :o

Usa iTunes

04. Katy Perry - Part Of Me 66.2%

05. The Wanted - Glad You Came 64.2% (They are looking likely of a top 5 smash, should overtake Katy Perry & B.o.B Soon)

Glee is broadcast in Canada at exactly the same time as the US broadcast so that could help. We also don't know what airplay is like for them over there. I thought it had peaked on the Canadian Hot 100 a while ago, lower down, but looking now it seems to be at it's peak of #26 and has spent nine weeks on the chart.

Calvin is at #75 (#88), #277 (#361) and #581 (#485) so he's doing as well as usual. Ellie is at #103 (#111), #287 (#311) and #925 (#910). M.I.A is at #290 (#291) and One Direction are at #37 (#27).

Gotye's still climbing. Ugh.

Apparently Somebody That I Used To Know will be used on the next Glee after the 2 month break, they have impeccable timing  What with Glad You Came, Stronger and now maybe STIUTK I expect What Makes You Beautiful will be covered as airplay kicks in :P
I have to wonder if Glee aren't paid by labels to cover certain songs.

I doubt it mostly, but maybe sometimes they are.

You know, if I were a label exec, I'd pay them my kidneys too seeing the effect it has on promotion.

I have this suspicion too, not just with Glee but other things too. Thing is, Glee is filmed like 6-8 weeks in advance iirc, so they probably don't even know that said songs will be hits. So perhaps they do just cover songs they find before they're hits that they think will suit the show, and it turns out that they just end up being hits.

It's convinient how Rumour Has It was used on Smash and The Voice this week as it was announced as the single, but then Adele doesn't really need boosts anyway :P

Calvin top 300 with his 2nd version now :cheer: Doing so well.

WHY is Glee on another long break? Why can't it just stick to a normal one per week schedule? :drama: :drama: :drama:

B.o.B's showing the "Lil Wayne effect" perfectly! "Strange Clouds" shot to #1 on iTunes, before "Play The Guitar" (featuring André 3000, so hardly a nobody) didn't get anywhere near. It only made #98 on the Hot 100, does anyone know where it got to on iTunes? I was a little surprised to see that he's up to #2 already given I'd heard nothing of a new single, but then I found out who features on it

I have no idea, probably to make way for other shows. And maybe to add drama to the 'MIDSEASON FINALE' and make the dramatic cliffhanger even more intense (tbf it's working, the waiting is like killing me already ).

On the brightside for you, less Glee 'clogging up' the chart once this batch falls :P

No one features on 'So Good' - it was produced by Ryan Tedder according to Wikipedia though if that's what you mean?

Play The Guitar peaked in the low 30s or high 40s in the USA IIRC. Very odd to see 'So Good' doing so much better.

This is right, American Idol takes the timeslot next Tuesday as they go to live shows and then the next five or six weeks Glee is making way for a new comedy block on FOX. Leaves them with eight episodes to air in a row at the end of the season from April-May.

I'm surprised with how well B.o.B is doing, 'Strange Clouds' had a good peak but wasn't a massive hit and then 'Play The Guitar' was a flop really but now the third single is doing really well again. I hope his album can do OK but he isn't having the success of the first album/singles (Nothin' On You & Airplanes) yet which is a shame.

Does 'So Good' sample anything? To me it really sounds like something else in places (could be because of Ryan Tedder but it certainly isn't Halo/Bleeding Love/OneRepublic or anything along those lines).

The Wanted are doing amazingly well but I kind of don't believe in their overall success. I mean, they might even have another hit but, at the end, they'll end up like Taio Cruz or something along those lines, not a credible consistent selling act. Not even in the UK, where they have all the biggest promotional tools at their disposal, they fare spectacularly well.
What's the deal with the new B.o.B song then? Why's it so high - didn't even realise he was releasing another single, completely overlooking 'Play the Guitar' - which is something I thought the USA would love. 'Strange Clouds' with Lil Wayne still sounding epic though - can't wait to see what other gems are on the album.

Wiki told me it had Lil Wayne on it, oops

"Play the Guitar" is good as well, shame it flopped.
