:D Never imagined TW would ever get as high as #4. Really hope it can stick around this week so it has a chance of Top 10 on Billboard.

TW have certainly been overshadowed by 1D's impressive entry position this week, who've garnered headlines such as:

"One Direction to be bigger than The Beatles"

"Highest UK group US chart debut since Spice Girls"

"Highest US chart debut (for a UK act) for 14 years"

... whereas TW's relatively slow and steady climb up the chart has gone somewhat unnoticed in the press. I suppose they really need to crack the Top 10 to get some praise too. :drama:

Seems 1D will fall from their entry position next week, though pop radio will start playing them soon, so hopefully that'll bump them back up. Even though in the eyes of the press they've cracked the US already.

1D's press coverage in the US and hype was a given.... I read an article about how they're expected to debut at #1 on the album charts as well. Cowell's handling the whole thing very very well! Will be interesting to see what they do with Cher Lloyd when she's ready to release over here.
I can't check US iTunes right now as I'm on my iPod and cba, but judging by Twitter the (amazing) new Carrie Underwood single is out and shooting up, number 1 soon? Or just a loon's wishful thinking? :P

It's currently #44.

Carrie  #10!
Carrie  #10!

Now up to #7. Hmph. (She must be the biggest example of an act massive in the USA but barely known in the UK, her biggest UK chart achievement (aside from Just Stand Up!) is an album that was top 100 for a week at #93 )

Usher isn't doing that well with his new single, only #39 so far. But then his first few releases from the Raymond V Raymond era bombed even in the USA as well and then he had one of his biggest hits ever with 'OMG' so :P

(In other news '21' is already back at #1 on the albums feed - didn't expect it to overtake Tyga so quickly!)

They do have quite a fanbase over there (well, they did manage to sell 132k of WMYB with minimal airplay) and they are supporting Big Time Rush on tour before the album release along with an appearance on 'The Tonight Show' at some point I think, so it wouldn't surprise me. However, it will depend on competition/how well Adele is still selling. Would be quite..odd(?) if they did when 'Talk That Talk' beat it to #1 in the UK, but only managed #3 itself in the US.

YES  Keep going Carrie! Tbf the only reason why she isn't popular in the UK is because she's never been pushed. I think she could have as much success as Lady Antebellum or Taylor Swift easily, if not more! I geniunely think Good Girl could be at least a minor hit in the UK, because it's so poppy.

But then that could also just be loon talk I guess :P

Calvin's at #73 (#75), #241 (#277) and #657 (#581). Not a great day for him. Ellie's at #98 (#103), #290 (#287) and #846 (#925). Great day for her and about time it broke the top 100 again. M.I.A hanging around #300 permanently is even more dull than Ellie's current progress so I think I'll stop updating y'all on her. One Direction are #39 (#37) so they've slowed their descent quite a lot. Pleasing.

Carrie's #6.

Even with no push, it's pretty strange that despite her massive US success she has only managed a grand total of one week on either top 100 in the UK and even then only at number 93. Country isn't big in the UK but you'd expect the biggest of the big in the USA to have at least some success here (as Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum have and I'm sure The Band Perry will manage, Sugarland and Tim McGraw have also had some minor success).

Even Brad Paisley has peaked higher on the UK albums chart than Carrie Underwood :P

You're right I guess, but you know how it is with the loon glasses on given she's my favourite singer of all time :P

I won't be surprised if they debut in the top 5... .as you pointed out, when 123K fans could buy a digital single, imagine the buzz amongst pre-teen girls when they can lay their hands on the CD with pictures, special edition, etc. Plus at that time they'd have had the iCarly and the Morning Show appearances as well to add on to the sales.

The 132k won't be entirely stanbase buys though. Obviously the majority will but it had good longevity in the top 10 while stanbase buys are obviously frontloaded so I don't think it's unreasonable to think a lot of their sales were down to "Oh hai what is this song in the top 10? I should check it out" buys. At the same time 132k sales would suggest that they could easily clear say ~70k which would be more than enough for a top 5 opening and maybe even as high as two depending on the week they release. And that's without taking into account iCarly and what not as well as whatever new fans they pick up between now and the album release.

I hate all this "highest british debut since 1998" - so what? Where are 1D now? Just Top 40 - plummeted big time. At least Adele never had any tags attached as "highest british debut" because there was none. Totally unexpected. We're talking millions of albums as far as Adele is concerned.
Go Carrie :D I hope this gets top 10 on the Hot 100 as Cowboy Cassanova just missed out (peaked at 11), her last top 10 hit was I Told You So in 2009! Good Girl should get a good amount of top 40 airplay soon as well as her usual country support which should help.
