Madness. Considering they've missed their two best players through most of these heavy defeats too.

Although Hodgson to be next please.

Utterly ridiculous. The club was in a terrible mess when Hughton took over with many people thinking their most likely route out of the Championship was down rather than up.

Ridiculous decision there on Hughton.

I see that Houillier is due a warm reception this evening as he faces his old club from the opposing dugout in tonight's game. I have been looking forward to this fixture since Houillier's return to Premier League football with Aston Villa.

Thoughts on this Rooney?

Jol quits as Ajax manager, so he's now in the running for the Newcastle vacancy.

Really hope they get Pardew.

And he got a marvellous reception. No surprise since he was such a good manager for Liverpool. But he let player power rule too much and made some poor decisions with signings, so he definitely left at the right time.

Another good result for Liverpool this evening albeit against terrible opposition. But no Gerrard or Torres. Lucas is easily one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League at the moment, he really is so good.

Alan Pardew to be named Newcastle United manager within 24 hours, BBC Sport understands.

I predict a boycoutt.

FC United 2-0 down at half time :(

And Newcastle are absolutely ridiculous. As if Mike Ashley wasn't hated enough he's just about written his way out of the north east. I can imagine northern Sports Direct takings dropping!

Wanted a manager with huge experience... Yeah right, because Pardew is a huge successful Premier League manager. While Ashley is there, no big name managers will sighn. I expect Newcastle to plummet down the table now as morale hits the deck.

FC Untied haven't had the same passion they seem to have had in the FA CUP before now so far :( So cruel coneeding on 45+3 as well.
FC Untied

:heehee:

They need to untie the shackles and give it everything now, but not do a Droylsden  and lose 8-2 in extra time!

There are some Newcastle United fans who say on message boards that they won't attend Newcastle games until Ashley has left. They are going to attend Gateshead United games instead.
York are away at Bolton. Might have more of a chance of being televised if it was at home, it's been confirmed as a 3PM anyway far as I know!

The majority probably won't, given the ridiculously extortionate amounts of money they've paid for season tickets. I can see a lot of non-ST holders staying away though, and as much as I hate the horrible bastards I can't blame them.

Seeing all of this makes me so thankful we've got somebody sensible in charge of Sunderland.

Newcastle United have appointed Alan Pardew as the club's new manager on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Pardew - dismissed by League One side Southampton in August - replaces Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Monday.

"I am honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity at one of the truly great clubs in English football," said the 49-year-old.

His first match in charge of the club, who are 12th in the Premier League, is at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

Pardew - who has also managed Reading, West Ham and Charlton - will be officially unveiled at a news conference at St James' Park at 1430 GMT on Thursday.

Former Tottenham coach Hughton led Newcastle back into the top flight last season but, following his controversial sacking, the club said it wanted to appoint a new manager "with more experience".

BBC Sport understands that Pardew, who is owner Mike Ashley's fifth appointment in three years, was in talks with the club about taking over at St James' Park as long as 10 days ago.

As a manager Pardew has taken charge of more than 500 games, though the majority of those were not in the Premier League.

Absoltuley lduicrous . And FIVE AND A HALF YEARS? INSANE.

Mike Ashley has to be on a wind-up, he knows the fans don't like or want Pardew, so gives him 5 and a half years. Bizarre.
