January 6, 201213 yr Well that one was all over the place. Even on previous years when there was agreement.
January 6, 201213 yr Have the sales for 'Think Twice' been revised? I read something about sales from 1994-1996 being rounded down. Only reason for asking is because for years it was classed as a UK million seller?
January 6, 201213 yr Have the sales for 'Think Twice' been revised? I read something about sales from 1994-1996 being rounded down. Only reason for asking is because for years it was classed as a UK million seller?I've seen that 930,000 sale for "Think Twice" in a previous countdown compiled by the OCC. That's one of the revised sales for that 1994 to 1996 period. Basically the method of calculating sales that was used up to the end of 1996 is different to the way it has been calculated from early 1997 onwards. The OCC keep using the new method for the 1994 to 1996 period and it has the effect of lowering sales for that period. They should use the old method but often fail to do so.
January 6, 201213 yr Other big sellers affected by the way the OCC keep chopping and changing the sales data for 1994 to 1996 Unchained Melody - Robson & Jerome 1,390,000 (1,843,000) Love Is All Around - Wet, Wet, Wet 1,300,000 (1,783,000) Wannabe - Spice Girls 1996 1,180,000 (1,269,000) Killing Me Softly - Fugees 1996 1,175,000 (1,268,000) Gangsta's Paradise - Coolio feat. L.V. 1,020,000 (1,245,000) Think Twice - Celine Dion 920,000 (1,234,000) Spaceman - Babylon Zoo 945,000 (1,098,000) Saturday Night - Whigfield 800,000 (1,092,000) I Believe / Up On The Roof - Robson Green and Jerome Flynn 890,000 (1,090,000) Earth Song - Michael Jackson 865,000 (1,030,000) Back For Good - Take That 725,000 (959,000) Say You'll Be There - Spice Girls 915,000 (930,000) Wonderwall - Oasis 810,000 (920,000) Stay Another Day - East 17 700,000 (910,000) Missing - Everything But The Girl 735,000 (870,000) The revised figures are listed with the old figures (calculated at the time) in brackets.
January 6, 201213 yr Shoop Shoop song is a curious one the actusl figure should be 515,000. These shows round figures, sometimes up sometimes down. the actual figure for Stay is 484,455 so if it were rounded to the nearest 10,000 the correct figure is 480,000.

January 8, 201213 yr But all of these have subsequently become million sellers haven't they? They were all million sellers in the 90s but the OCC have downgraded their 90s sales- old problem of multipliers. It depends which mood they are in as to whether or not they use the higher figures or the lower ones- that's why general confusion always reigns on these kinds of lists :o

It depends which mood they are in as to whether or not they use the higher figures or the lower ones- that's why general confusion always reigns on these kinds of lists :o Grrr at the OCC. Well, they were all in the 100 (+) million sellers announced by them a couple of years ago so they can stay until they finally decide otherwise.
January 18, 201213 yr Sorry if I am being stupid but what is the criteria for this chart? I thought it was just a list of best selling records by females of the 90s but for example I don't see Breathe Again by Toni Braxton or When You Tell Me That You Love Ne by Diana Ross both 300k+ and more than many of those listed. I'm confused.
January 18, 201213 yr So many memories here and so much greatness that has become overlooked in years past. Like Annie Lennox's 90's hits always overshadowed by her 80's career. Love Song for A Vampire and No more I Love Yous are some of her best. The Honeyz too are overlooked when they had more success in the late 90s than Destiny's Child did here. Finally Found, End of the Line, Won't Take it Lying Down, Love of a Lifetime were amazing, as were their rip off Fierce. FEj0y275ZXI

The absence of When You Tell Me That You Love Me is hard to explain. The most obvious possibility is that the compilers have forgotten to include its sales from 1992. It does seem from the rest of the list that they have got lower figures for 1991 singles than they were given at the time (using 15 as the multiplier rather than 16?), but it should still be in allowing for that even without its 1992 sales. Breathe Again is more than likely a combination of - 1) Defined Universe Sales being used rather than the original figures. 2) But Defined Universe Sales only start from the fifth sales week of the year, when OCC / Millward Brown took over from Gallup, and they have not included sales from the first 4 weeks from 1994, for which only the original figures would have existed.
