I've collated a list over the years, there must be some more that I could have missed and it should make some interesting discussion about it.
More Than a Feeling by Boston was used in the Barclay's roller-coaster advert in 2010, It made number 51 (at least 49 places too low but meh :( )
"Don't Upset The Rhythm" didn't make #1 unfortunately, it would have been if "Poker Face" could have given it at least a week there.

Would JLo -Papi count now?

I've heard it, but has not charted yet I don't think

Wiki says it has peaked at 67 :)

The earliest one I remember is the 'Let's Face The Music And Dance' one from '94 :D

The Noisettes only got to number 2, didn't they? I think a really early one was Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' in 1986, recharting at number 8 after a Levi's ad. Nina Simone's 'My Baby Just Cares For Me' was used in a Chanel No. 5 ad in 1987 and recharted at number 5.

Jackie Wilson's 'Reet Petite' (number 1 in December 1986) is often said to have come from an advert, but it actually came out of a plasticine-animated video shown on the BBC. But that's not on this list so you have that correct :D

EDIT: Another - Black's 'Wonderful Life' recharted at number 42 in the 05/03/1994 chart when it was used in an ad for Standard Life insurance.

You missed out the Kanye West one, I think Power was the name of the song, can't remember the advert though

There's been a ton of minor resurgences from adverts recently. Kanye's Power is a good call as that went top 40 again. Gossip's Heavy Cross reached #79 again off the back of an advert last week. Grouplove's Tongue Tied reached #81 from an advert the week before. The list goes on.

James Vincent McMorrow's Higher Love, heading for top 20/25 this week, is on the Lovefilm ad.

wasn't All night long by Alexandra for Sure campaign

I think I can add 3 to this that charted thanks to campaigns mostly here in Scotland(charted UK singles )

The lowest placed was 1986 Win You've Got The Power which got to no 95 and sounds like this:

Love Decree Something So Real for McEwans Beer(as Win was) reached no 61 in 1989 and sounds like this(also known as Chinheads):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00orjA4AQ80

Perhaps the biggest was for Tennants in 1992 Frankie Miller Caledonia which got to 45 in the UK but was No1 in the Scottish charts:

How did I forget "Power"? :o amazing song, amazing game it was advertising.

"Midnight City" could be added shortly as it's on a BBC montage of 2012. Not a commercial advertisement as such, but close enough?

If you count that then what about Various Artists - Perfect Day, a number one hit?

31/05/08 Drench Water No.37

Snap! Rhythm Is A Dancer

This actually got to number 23 in 2008

Frank Sinatra - They All Laughed (Carlsberg) - #41 (1999)

Stinx - Why Do You Keep On Running (HEBS anti-smoking) - #49 (2001)
