I really hope it goes to #1, I just couldn't see it when it didn't enter iTunes highly but if it takes off there would have to be something with high opening sales to beat it. Been pessimistic and said #2-5.

It has been to No.1 in Germany, (still there at present), Australia, New Zealand,

Belgium, & The Netherlands. It is currently in its 22nd Top 10 Week there. (In

The Netherlands). It has spent 20 of them in the Top 5 - 4 at No.1, & 10 at No.2.

It is at No.5 there now. It is on its way to No.1 in Austria - a No.46 to No.3 leap

- in its 2nd Chart Week.

I love it. However - don't you think that the Intro reminds you of the Childrens'

Nursery Rhyme, 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'?

Gotye is a Belgian/Australian. The Female - Kimbra - is from New Zealand.

Not really feeling the hype that everyone on here has been giving this.

I predict 5-10.

Me2.

It sounds like a reject from the interminably dull "Happiness" album by Hurts in 2010.

It sounds nothing like Hurts!

Anyway, I'm currently at the point where I'm drawn to it occasionally despite hating it for the last few months. The chorus reminds me of something bloody Phil Collins or Sting would come out with. Either way, I think it'll be a very long-running top ten...
It's such a massive grower. I first heard it in the summer and thought it was average, it sort of clicked with me a few weeks later - I left it on my playlist for a while so there must have been something about it that I thought I'd grow to like. Sure enough I now find it really really excellent but it's taken over six months for me to get to this stage. Has anybody actually ever loved this song on first listen, I'd be interested to know? Hopefully it very slowly climbs to #1 and breaks the record for most weeks taken to get there, it would be apt really  But realistically I'll go with #4 and hope to be proved wrong.

Not hearing the similarities between the acts/songs at all :o And I loved that album!

It took me about three times to be hooked. It was when I heard Kimbras verse - then I was hooked! :o

Not a fan of it but certainly wouldn't mind it getting to #1. I voted 2-5 though.

Seems the song will break the official top-40 this week. Edit: and it debuted at #97 last week, so the last option is already invalid. :P

I didn't expect this to sound like this. I have seen people talking about it on the iTunes thread, and I have no clue why but I kind of expected it to be some European dance track, like 'Loca People' or 'We No Speak Americano' and I don't know why. This should do well actually.

Actually he is Belgian but lives in Australia

Ditto. It sounds like Peter Gabriel. I like it but I can see why it was big in Australasia, it seems to me that more legit sounds do better there than here.

I hope it can go to No.1, it made No.1 on my personal chart last year and was my seventh best song of 2011!

Maybe in times gone by but in the last five years the ARIA charts have been almost more Americanised and club/rap dominated than the Billboard charts and certainly moreso than the UK charts from what I can see.

That is so sad. Oh well, at least Sia is still kicking rear end there and the Triple J radio is promoting great talent.

I heard it for the first time in full yesterday. And have already fell in love, have been wanting to hear it (didn't know it was this song though) as I've heard parts of it for weeks now.

OK, changed my mind, absoultely love this now
