Sales seem to be quite low for the US - 15k to get into the Top 10 is only a tad higher than the UK at the moment!

MDNA enters the official German album chart (which will be released this Friday) at #3. This is her first studioalbum since Ray Of Light (1998) not to be number 1 on the official German album chart.

Is there any reason why she didn't go to #1?. Or was there just lack of promotion?.

I don't know really. It looks like to me, that Madge didn't really promote the new album in Europe (maybe only on iTunes) plus I can here only bad critics from it :(

 

MDNA is not her strongest album, I agree, but it's miles better than Hard Candy.

MDNA enters at Number 2 in the French Top Album chart (physical and digital) with 41,693 units sold.

The new Madonna album is also Number 1 in digital sales with 11,775 downloads.

MDNA enters the chart in Japan at Number 4 with 31,000 units sold while The Complete Studio Albums boxset makes a huge debut at Number 9 selling 13,000 copies.

Speaking of chart, MDNA makes a Number 1 debut in Turkey selling a record of 30,000 albums, outselling local acts and becoming elegible for 3 Platinum (10,000 is plat for non-local acts) or 1 Diamond (20,000) with only 4 days of sales.

Universal Records have issued this Press Release to celebrate the Material Girl's biggest First Week Debut this year.

Madonna has returned for the 8th time to the top of the Billboard's Pop Charts with MDNA selling 359,000 albums according to Neilsen Soundscan and is the biggest selling first week debut this year. MDNA is The Material Girl's fifth No. 1 studio album in a row and her first album for Interscope Records.

 

On the Billboard Dance Club Play Charts, Madonna remains queen of the clubs with two songs from MDNA in the Top Ten including "Girls Gone Wild" which has gone to No. 4 and is the "greatest gainer" for the last three weeks. Her first dance hit from MDNA "Give Me All Your Luvin" after going to No. 1 remains in the Top Ten in the No. 8 spot.

In the UK, the MDNA album puts Madonna in a league of her own. MDNA's No. 1 spot gives Madonna the most No. 1 albums of all time in the UK (12) by a solo artist - surpassing Elvis Presley. The Beatles are the only artists who have had 15 No. 1 albums in the country.

 

In Japan, MDNA is her 22nd Top Ten album passing The Beatles record of 19 Top Ten albums in Japan. MDNA entered their Oricon international charts at No. 1 and the combined Oricon Charts at #4.

With MDNA becoming her 8th number 1 album, Madonna is now just one album away from matching Barbra Streisand's long-held record of most No. 1 albums by a female artist on the U.S. chart. Barbra's current record of Nine number One albums was achieved over a span of 45 years, stretching from the People album which hit No. 1 in October 1964, to Love is the Answer, which reached the summit in October 2009. Madonna's span of No. Ones stretches just 26 years, from Like a Virgin in February 1985 to MDNA this week.

 

MDNA is Her Majesty's 20th album to make the top 10, second only to Barbra Streisand, with 31 top 10 albums.

 

MDNA is the Queen's fifth consecutive studio album to reach No. 1 on the U.S. album chart, following Music, American Life, Confessions On A Dance Floor, and Hard Candy. Interestingly, this follows a string of five consecutive No. 2 albums: I'm Breathless (Dick Tracy Soundtrack), Immaculate Collection, Erotica, Evita Soundtrack, and Ray of Light. The only other female artist in history to achieve five consecutive No. 1 studio albums is Janet Jackson.

 

As reported earlier, MDNA storms the U.K. chart at No. 1. It therefore becomes Madonna's 8th album to hit number 1 transatlantically in both the U.S. and the U.K., achieving a second place tie with Bruce Springsteen for most No. 1 transatlantic albums. Only the Beatles have more albums that hit No. 1 in both the U.S. and the U.K, with 10.

 

Bonus: The Queen's Celebration greatest hits set reenters the U.S. album chart this week at No. 177.
