I just don't GET 'Pumped Up Kicks' whatsoever. There's just nothing to it?

 

 

I dont like it but I couldn't say there's nothing to it - the bassline and the whistling are two huge hooks.

Well this was always going to be up near the top and probably the most likely victor, but by over 300 points?! Wow! Their 2008 album 'Saturdays = Youth' had taken the band to a much wider audience and gained themselves a legion of new fans (myself included) so their comeback 3 years later was highly anticipated. And as far as their first single went, they certainly didn't disappoint. It managed to stay true to their past whilst being as poppy as alternative music comes, a chorus that would stick in anyone's head, lots of ooh's and aah's and the saxaphone, at the end, although having received a bit of a re-emergence recently, well it blew them out of the water. A thoroughly deserved victory for a song which seemed to unite everyone!

SO INDIE.

My own top 10 finished 64th, 96th, 48th, 24th, 28th, 36th, 14th, 92nd, 105th and 47th. My votes were hardly a roaring success!

Surprised to see Vomit so low, thought it'd do great, perhaps few people know it, or it's just not indie enough (or people think it's crap).

 

Also thought Beth/Rest was a truly excellent finisher on the Bon Iver album, shocked by the 72nd place.

 

Other than that I can't really say anything to the winner, even if it didn't top my list, it really is excellent, catchy yet different, and everybody likes it, it's just a question of how much.

GOSH Harvey is the odd one out EVEN IN THE INDIE FORUM.

Still Life at #9? I thought it would end up at least top 5! Orbital and Kavinsky criminally too low!

Heh, in truth I gave a lot of points to songs I've never heard just based on thier previous output (M83, Gang Gang Dance, Gotye) and the only songs I'd heard out of the Top 40 at the time of voting were The Horrors and The Joy Formidable (have since heard Gotye and one of the Lana Del Ray songs (yuk))
