'World Of Our Own' is the only remotely decent thing they ever did IMO, but if they were to have a "signature hit" I'd say it's 'Flying Without Wings'.

There's only a few songs that I properly like from them ('Uptown Girl', 'World of Our Own' and 'What About Now').

It's quite hard to decide their signature song considering a lot of their big hits are covers (poses the question as to whether the songs are well-known due to them or the original artist). The one which stands out the most for me is their cover of 'Uptown Girl' and maybe 'You Raise Me Up' and 'World of Our Own'.

I'd say that You Raise Me Up is Westlife's signature song by far.

Sugababes' signature hit is another one that's hard to call. 'About You Now' is probably their best-known and most-liked song, but at the same time, it doesn't really sound like a typical Sugababes song, so something like 'Freak Like Me' or 'Push the Button' is maybe more of a "defining" song for them even if their less known/liked. (Which, again, goes back to the point that I don't think the definition of a "signature hit" is totally clear-cut.)

Westlife's signature hit is definitely 'Flying Without Wings' no matter how you define signature hit though, imo.

I guess when people think of the Sugababes, they think of Sugababes 2.0, which is why I think 'Push the Button' would be ahead of 'About You Now', plus for the reason you gave that it sounds more like the rest of their material.

Re The xx, their signature song is definitely either Islands or Intro as they are the two that are used on every TV programme. People are only saying Angels as it has been their most recent hit.
They've only made two albums. Far too soon for them to have/need a signature track!
As for Westlife I didn't really know so I just put my favourite song lol.

To be fair I think that's what a lot of people in this thread are doing :P

I was thinking just now about live sets, and how the last song (or at least single) played is usually - but not always - a signature hit. Based on the some of the weird and wonderful lineup of acts I've seen live, here's what I think are and aren't:

Cascada - Everytime We Touch (yes still, I think, although this was before Evacuate the Dancefloor came out)

Scooter - The Logical Song (in the UK yes, but maybe not so in their native Germany - maybe something like Hyper Hyper/Move Your Ass over there)

Basshunter - Every Morning (Hahaha no. :P To be fair it was his new single at the time. Can't really be anything other than Now You're Gone although he was only briefly really famous here so I think a 'signature hit' doesn't really apply here)

Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At (yep, although nowhere near their highest charter)

Underworld - Moaner (I wish!! But it's always gonna be Born Slippy)

Dizzee Rascal - First time Dance Wiv Me, second time Bonkers (now this is a tricky one. Both massive but I'd actually go for something like Fix Up Look Sharp)

The Prodigy - Out of Space (yes, thankfully - I think Firestarter might have overtaken it at one point but in recent years it's this that seems to have lasted more)

Faithless - We Come 1 (would be a good one to have, but Insomnia's simply too huge to overtake)

Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (*just about* yes, I think, although It's a Sin/Go West are very close)

Erasure - Stop (Definitely A Little Respect with Sometimes a close second)

Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling (this would have been Where Is The Love for *years*, and possibly still is...it's hard to compare them as they're two completely different-sounding songs)

Pulp - Common People (Duh.)

Dodgy - Good Enough (I think so)

The Feeling - Love It When You Call (great song but I think Fill My Little World has this one, or possibly Sewn?)

Human League - Don't You Want Me (yep, dwarfs everything else)

The Killers - When You Were Young (no, although pre-encore it was All These Things That I've Done. Gotta be Mr Brightside for them though)

Ok I'll stop there :P It's mostly just their biggest seller/highest charter, but I think a fair few of those could be classed as signature hits.

Pet Shop Boys Always on My Mind is what i think of as their signature hit.

Wet Wet Wet love is all around

Bros when will i be famous.

Boyzone no matter what but also love me for a reason.

I am not sure, while west end girls does trigger it, always on my mind just screams pet shop boys at me, but between both and its a sin i could understand why any person would pick one of the three.
'It's A Sin' is by far their best song  Would say 'West End Girls' as a 'signature song' though.

"Always On My Mind" just screams rubbish cover version to me. About one of the least intersting things the PSBs have ever done.

Signature songs always tend to be the worst songs by an act IMO Angels, Love Is All Around, Uptown Girl, Golden Brown, Flying Without Wings, I will Always Love You, He aint heavy hes my brother, Pokerface etc all signatute songs but all pretty dire!

For me, it's not always the case that it's their worst song, just that it's not necessarily the song I would want to be such a massive hit. Someone said this about the success of 'Get Lucky' recently, that it's the fact its success is much bigger than the song itself which can lead to a person hating it. More often than not, I really like signature songs, but when said artist has so many fantastic songs that didn't have as much success as it should, it sort of makes you dislike the fact one of their lesser deserving tracks becomes so big.

I'll take Kylie for example whose signature song is undoubtedly 'Can't Get You Out of My Head'. Now, I love this song, I do think it deserved such massive success and I don't mind the fact that it is her signature song. However, when she has songs like 'On a Night Like This', 'In Your Eyes' and '2 Hearts' which, at least chart-wise, didn't receive as much success as I would have wanted them to, then I do get slightly annoyed that 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' had so much success as I rank it lower than those songs, even though I still like it. Confusing, I know. :P

I don't like it when songs I love get too big. Paradise lost its appeal to me when it climbed to #1, as much as I love it.
