August 5, 201212 yr I agree with Elton on his first point as well, the stuff she was making back in the 90's early 00's had far more depth and maturity than what she's making now...GGW and GAYL are jokes compared to songs like Frozen, Nothing Really Matters etc. The there's 'Masterpiece' which sticks out like a sore thumb on the album because its probably the best thing she's done since confessions, and is the direction I feel like she should have gone in. That said her career is hardly over since she's still selling out arenas and there is still quite a lot of interest in her.
August 5, 201212 yr Frankly I think they all need to be smacked around the head, but I will say unpleasant man as Elton appears to be, he's the only one to be associated with a decent album this year.
August 5, 201212 yr I kind of agree with him on "she would have made a record like Ray of Light", but MDNA is still a great album. Madonna said that she wanted to make people dance and smile, that's what she did. Don't forget there was the Superbowl show and the following tour : nobody can make the superbowl with love songs or spiritual songs... I hope her next album will be as good as American Life or Ray of Light, with deep songs and no sexual controversy. And we will all laugh at the morons who said she was over, a stripper or that she has no talent. Let's wait for the next reinvention of the Queen of Pop :)
August 25, 201212 yr Apparently Madonna forgave Elton John for his "fairground stripper" comment. She's even dedicated her song Masterpiece to him at one of her shows and told the crowd "I know he's a big fan of it. And I know he's a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere."
August 27, 201212 yr I did wonder whether she was just taking the p*ss, as she said Elton loved Masterpiece, yet he was pretty annoyed that it beat his song for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes...
August 27, 201212 yr Oh it was very clearly a piss take. But I think the reason she's continued to come off so well, at least relatively, in all this is because it isn't her who's been starting it, it's him. So in that respect I hope she doesn't start going on the offensive.
