The X Factor USA winner Melanie Amaro is set to release her début single, featured in the commercial for Pepsi (which is due to be broadcast during the Superbowl). Despite going Stateside, SyCo STILL haven't managed to find a good enough original song for her to record, so instead have lumped her with a dance version of Aretha Franklin's "Respect". Now, I never watched The X Factor USA, but surely for all the positives available with her appearing in the commercial, a cover really isn't the best way to go about beginning a career. Here's a video of her talking about the commercial and mentioning Pepsi at any opportunity, with a snippet of the track towards the end:

Oh, and for some reason, Elton John is in the ad too. Bizarre.

I loved Melanie so it's a shame they've limped her with a cover, not a good start. However, it might not be as bad if it's a totally new take on the song and I still have some hope as after all, this is for the Superbowl, plenty of promo and then hopefully they come up with a smash for the proper push in summer.

Pretty sure that's just something she's recorded to go on the ad. Might even be released on iTunes but I highly doubt it's her single.

Yeah, I reckon this too, just a song especially created for the advert - I know winners released covers as debuts here, but I think Simon has enough sense to realise that won't cut it the way it will in the UK..

This actually sounds really good, even if it's a lazy cover!

It absolutely is awful! Tinny synth/rave production + screamathon vocals = blistering headache.

I've decided I like this very much! :D
The only thing that is even remotely enjoyable about it is that it's 'Respect'. Overall I think it's quite a rubbish attempt to make it 'modern'. I'm shocked that it's her and not someone on AATW releasing this.
It's not first single - it's a promo single!
loveeeeee this version!! makes me wanna dance  shes got a real diva voice too which is great

Divas as a rule have soul in their voices. This girl just shouts.
